11 Dewatering & Slurry Specialist WASTE WATER TREATMENT PLANT Filter press Sludge tank Automated flocculant unit Submerged pump Sludge pump The water pump 2 conveys the waste water from the pit 1 to the settling tank 4 . On the way up, the flocculant, prepared by the automated unit 3 , is injected into the pipe, in quantities controlled by the automatic dosing system. When the waste water arrives in the settling tank 7 immediately a solid/liquid separation is obtained. The flocculated sludge sinks to the bottom cane of the settling tank and the clear water raises up and overflows into a recycled water tank 5 from which it is sent once again to the production cycle 6 . The thickened sludge is discharge into the tank and through a high-pressure sludge pump 8 it is sent to the fiter press 9 to be dehydrated and made perfectly dry and easy to handle. CONTAINERIZED


12 Dewatering & Slurry Specialist MacTubes® in Mine Waste Processing, Management, Containment & Erosion Control Dewatering The dewatering and drying of sludge is a technology with low environmental impact and cost. lt enables the on-site treatment of a wide range of both natural and contaminated fluid sludges. Dewatering features MacTube® geosynthetic tubes which are filled in-situ with a pumped slurry; the fluid drains through the fabric walls, leaving the solid residues within the tube. Once the residue has dried it can be disposed of far more safely and cost effectively than wet, slurried material. The use of site-specific flocculants is common to accelerate the filtration process. The system is simple and versatile; only minor adaptations are required to tailor the solution to each project site, enabling the treatment of both small and large volumes of material within a small work-area.
