Explain any particular career that you are interested in besides your career
now
Every job starts from a dream and continues with effort. Anyone who works
hard will definitely achieve success in whatever career field they venture into. “The
man who moves a mountain begins by carrying away small stones.” (Confucius).
First and foremost, I am currently a trainee teacher and studying at the Teacher
Education Institute. It is expected that in another 5 years I will be a teacher in any
school that will be appointed by the ministry. But there is no denying that I also have
a deep interest in other careers apart from the field of education. Actually, if I don't
get an offer to continue my studies at Teacher Education Institute, of course I will fill
out the application form for the position of the Royal Malaysian Police (RMP).
Besides wanting to be a teacher, I aspire to be a police officer since childhood
because I was inspired by both my parents who are members of the Royal Malaysian
Police. I was influenced and became interested in becoming a police officer when I
saw my parents looking smart and neat wearing police uniforms. The dark blue
uniform clearly shows the seriousness and uniformity of the Royal Malaysian Police
Force along with the body number displayed on the left side of their chest which
shows their membership number as policemen. In addition, the rank attached to their
clothes also shows their seriousness in carrying out their duties. Furthermore with the
official logo of the Royal Malaysian Police on their uniforms symbolizes their spirit
and integrity. Their shoes are also very shiny and show that they are a disciplined
person who cares about small problems. As a teacher, we are free to wear tie-dyed
shirts, belts, pants and shoes. As policeman, they don't have to think about what to
wear on a working day because they will just wear the uniform regardless of the time.
Unlike the teacher who will be busy thinking about what color of shirt they need to
wear the next working day.
Moreover, working as a policeman can train us to be a disciplined person. If
the policemen are not disciplined, it will tarnish and discredit the good name of the
Royal Malaysian Police because one drop of indigo could tarnish the image of the
whole organisation. Police officers must obey what is ordered by their superiors in
line with their vision to be security leaders to ensure Malaysia is safe and secure. In
addition, police officers do not have their regular working hours. Even if they are on
leave, policemen can also be called to duty because leave is not an absolute right for

them. For example, if there is a sudden riot and many policemen are needed to
control the situation, the police who are on leave will be called to help control the
situation and the safety of the community. So they must always be ready and
enthusiastic to carry out their duties of serving the country. In contrast a teacher who
usually works five days a week and has many days off along with school holidays.
The teachers have a fixed time and work schedule and do not need to worry if they
are suddenly called to come to work, unless they have programs or activities that are
carried out during holidays such as student excellence award days, annual sports
and so on.
Fundamentally, the job of a policeman is to help the country in fighting crime
and further reduce the crime rate in our country. “Police officers know that each time
they put on their uniform, they are taking on risks to protect others” (Governor Parson,
2020). The police have worked hard to ensure the safety of the local community. In
addition, throughout the implementation of the Movement Control Order directed by
the government, people are not allowed to leave their homes arbitrarily to curb the
spread of the dangerous virus Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19). But we can see the
police continue to carry out their duties and implement roadblocks at every state and
district border in order to maintain the harmony of the country and at the same time
free the country from dangerous pandemics. This matter can cultivate many virtues in
the police itself such as cultivating the spirit of pratiotic and love of the country.
“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it” (George
Santayana,1905). In addition, as a teacher, it is more about educating students to
become useful people in the future. This matter is also important for our country
because today's young people are the hope of the country in the future. But without a
teacher it is impossible to produce a great and courageous police officer in the fight
against crime.
In conclusion, the career that i’m interested in besides my career now is very
important to the country. Those who work as police also have a pure heart and are
willing to sacrifice energy for the sake of community harmony. “Choose a job you
love, and you will never have to work a day in your life" (Arthur Szathmary , 1982).
Even though I was already in the education profession and could not achieve my
dream of becoming a police officer. However, I am still proud to be one of the
educators who will definitely become a teacher in the future. We plan and He plans
and He is the best of Planners. Obviously, these two career of fields have quite a big
difference in terms of duties, clothes working hours and so on. But these two career

fields have their own similarities which is that both are on duty to serve the country.
The police keep the peace and harmony of the country. While teachers educate and
produce useful and excellent people. In addition, these two career of fields have
been labeled as frontliner workers who play an important role when our country is hit
by the COVID-19 pandemic. These people can also be called as a heroes in this
modern age.
