The next edition of ‘The Fresh Feed’

This week’s “Chill Challenge” was accepted by the wonderful team at Quinns SPAR Westland
Road, Cookstown. Working with store owner Martina, store manager John and Fresh Food
expert Shauneen we recently embarked on a store reFRESH. This busy store on the
outskirts of Cookstown has been successfully serving the public for many years, providing
daily essentials as well as great ranges of fresh food. With this review of chilled space this
presented the perfect opportunity to align the stores current commodity performance with
the existing stores chilled space and an opportunity to enhance the range and introduce
new lines that would be expected in a store of this type.
We used the Fresh Design Manager and built a bespoke chilled plan using the planograms
produced by our internal space planning teams and integrated this with the stores thinking
to come up with a suitable solution. This change has brought greater efficiency to this
category making it much easier to maintain range, complete ordering, change promotional
activity, introduce where possible the use of sales ready packaging (SRP) and ultimately
the daily management of this category.
We loved working with the great team at SPAR Westland Road and wish continued success
in the years to come.

Produce Weekly Presell – There will be no
Produce Weekly presell over the Holiday period.
This will reopen on 2nd January 2020
Our “Market Veg” range, as seen at the
Autumn show, is a completely naked loose
vegetable selection available to all our
retailers. The best way to merchandise all or
some of the range is by displaying it all
together side by side to give that real “fresh
from the field” look. This range will require
more attention than pre-packed alternatives
to ensure its fresh and the shelf life is
maintained for as long as possible.

been updated for Autumn/Winter. This
guide contains information on all lines that
are available through the Henderson
Wholesale fresh food warehouse. It also
contains Shelf life guide for products with
Julien codes and a Julien code calendar to
make it easier for you to identify when
items are past their recommended shelf

SHELF LIFE GUIDE
Cauliflower is still in short supply, however we will relist The
Greengrocer branded product from this weekend, at a reduced
Note stocks should be kept tight, prices on the market are still
high and demand is well down due to this. Only stock if you can
Feature Broccoli and other vegetables if you opt not to carry Cauliflower.
There is no stock suitable for the Market Cauliflower listing.
Berry prices have eased slightly for the top tier quality as
production increases. Retails have reduced and these will be
held until the end of the month.
12 Deals of Christmas Clementine – Update
Due to heavy sea conditions two of our containers have
been delayed in Spain. These should have arrived this
morning, however they are still in the Bay of Biscay working
their way towards Dublin port.
We were due three containers, the one we have received,
which came overland, normally the slowest route, will be
dispatched to stores tonight, on a pro-rata basis against the
remainder of your orders.
The two outstanding containers are now due Friday and will
be dispatched ASAP to fulfil the outstanding orders.
Any further updates will be issued via HORIS.
BOX CLEMENTINE IN-STORE PROCEDURE
Ensure product is stored at the correct temperature
Ideally the delivery of clementine’s should be held at 8oC. Remove any plastic
wrapping before putting in storage.
Do not build large displays on the shop floor. Please build your base with empty
boxes, trays or pallets if need be.
Display little and often. The clementines should be continually rotated from the back
storage area to ensure the on floor store conditions do not affect the display fruit.
Do not display under heaters or air conditioning units. Do not keep close to the
front doors either as the fluctuation in temperature will affect the fruit.
Please ensure stock is rotated. All boxes will have a 3 digit code on the white label
for our internal trace system (ie 412). The smallest number (trace code) should be
kept at the top of the stock.

Last 2 deliveries for Flowers will be Thursday night and Friday night. Please ensure they
go on display ASAP.
