This week’s “Chill Challenge” was accepted by Ludlow’s SPAR Chalet Stores, Portadown.
Working with Paul Ludlow, store owner and the team Feargal, Sandra and Gary we
recently embarked on a store reFRESH. This busy store on the outskirts of Portadown has
been successfully serving the public for a number of years, providing daily essentials as
well as great range of fresh foods. With this essential review of chilled space this
presented the perfect opportunity to align the stores current commodity performance
with the existing stores chilled space and an opportunity to enhance the range and
introduce new lines that would be expected in a store of this type.

We used the Fresh Design Manager and built a bespoke chilled plan using the planograms
produced by our internal space planning teams and integrated this with the stores
thinking to come up with a suitable solution. This change has brought greater efficiency
to this category making it much easier to maintain range, complete ordering, change
promotional activity, introduce where possible the use of sales ready packaging (SRP)
and ultimately the daily management of this category.

We loved working with the great team at SPAR Chalet Stores and wish continued success
in the years to come.

Fresh Retail Price Realignment

We have carried out a detailed review of our fresh retail pricing on key lines and due to
this we have made necessary changes to some retail pricing with NO change to wholesale
price. The result of this will be margin enhancement on these lines.
Unfortunately, due to promotional cycles we had to issue the first set of price changes last
weekend. However, going forward we will ensure that any future price changes are not
issued on the same weekend as a promotional cycle change.

Apologies for any confusion this may have caused.

We have introduced a weekly presell for the below lines to improve availability to you,
click on the below to place your order!

This presell will open on a Thursday and close on Sunday evening. Delivery to store will
be Wednesday PM/Thursday AM & Friday PM/Saturday AM.

Market Veg!

Our “Market Veg” range, as seen at the
Autumn show, is a completely naked loose
vegetable selection available to all our
retailers. The best way to merchandise all or
some of the range is by displaying it all
together side by side to give that real “fresh
from the field” look. This range will require
more attention than pre-packed alternatives
to ensure its fresh and the shelf life is
maintained for as long as possible.

Quality Guide

The Greengrocers Quality Guide has
been updated for Autumn/Winter. This
guide contains information on all lines that
are available through the Henderson
Wholesale fresh food warehouse. It also
contains Shelf life guide for products with
Julien codes and a Julien code calendar to
make it easier for you to identify when
items are past their recommended shelf

Produce Updates

The Greengrocer’s Pink Lady Apples

Due to our supplier rejecting their stock due to poor quality (892407), we will be short
pink lady 6’s until Sunday PM/Monday AM delivery.

Keeling’s Strawberries

We have been experiencing shortages on strawberries from
keeling’s due to the weather in Egypt. We have been receiving limited stock daily. Issues
should be resolved for Friday Delivery.

The Greengrocer’s Fine Beans

Fine Beans standard 125g (893036) have been severely
affected by cold weather. These will be in short supply until
Tuesday 14th January

The Greengrocer Soft Citrus, Vine Tomatoes, Red
Delicious Apples

These products are now all available.

Today:
Apart from a few isolated showers across the north and west it will be mostly dry with
some dry spells of sunshine. Feeling somewhat colder. Maximum temperature 7°C.

Tonight:
Dry and cold this evening. Thickening cloud will bring rain across all parts in the early
hours. Becoming windy along the east coast with strong north-easterly winds. Minimum
temperature 3 °C.

Thursday:
Cloud and rain will clear away through the morning. The afternoon will be mainly dry with
brightness, still an isolated shower in the east. Maximum temperature 7 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:
Dry for most of Friday before strengthening south-westerly winds bring rain later in the
day. Wet start on Saturday drier and brighter by afternoon. Occasional showers on
Sunday.
