Active Selling June 2022

Active Selling June 2022

Guidelines to Active Selling

• Times for Active Selling: to capture the customer who is shopping for a Tonight’s Tea
solution we will be Active Selling between the hours of 1500-1700.

• Days for Active Selling: we will be Active Selling on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
• What Products: initially we will be Active Selling The Chef tubs, but the range of products

will grow to include a selection of the The Kitchen range.
• Who should Active Sell: we are looking for a person who finds it easy and enjoyable to

communicate to customers and feels comfortable talking about the products. This individual
needs to be organised and understand the requirement to follow the guidelines for Active
Selling.

Equipment for Active Selling

• Following a review of previous Active Selling campaigns, we will be using a new method of
displaying the product for sampling. The table is designed to be mobile and enables the
sampler to move around the store and engage customers whilst sampling product. It is
critical that the mobile table is cleaned before each sampling session and when preparing
product within the same session.

• Temperature probe: your Daily Deli counter will have a digital probe that can be used.

• Sampling pots & plastic spoons: All stores will get an allocation of these.

• Plastic gloves: These must be always worn, whilst preparing food and when Active Selling to
the customer. The Daily Deli counter will have a supply of gloves which can be used.

• Sampling Stock: each week you will be sampling 2 different tubs from The Chef range. You
will have 3 cases of each tub delivered each week on your Sunday PM / Monday AM fresh
food delivery.

• It is crucial that this stock is stock adjusted out on GOLD and segregated in the back up.
• DO NOT MERCHANDISE THIS STOCK

• Natasha’s Law: whilst Active Selling, customers may ask about the allergen and ingredient
content of the product you are sampling. In this case, please hand them the outer sleeve of
the product to read the list of ingredients and allergens in the product. Do not read out the
allergens, let the customer read for themselves.

• Product Sampling Cards: each product has its own Product Sampling Card which detail the
following key information:
o Retail selling price.
o Comments from the Chef about the product. This information is crucial as it will
help with the customer engagement piece about the product. Each product is
handmade in our kitchen in Randalstown by a team of Chefs.
o How to heat, probe and prepare the product for sampling.

NOTE: the person who is Active Selling must take time to read the Product Sampling Card to
ensure that they have enough information about the product and importantly prepare the product
for sampling correctly.

• How many samples per hour: following the steps on the Product Sampling Card should
allow for 4 tubs to be sampled per hour approximately 64 sampling portions. It will require a
degree of organisation to achieve this eg. Whilst sampling the first batch, have the second
tub heating then repeat.
