Oppression

night multi genere project_ Final

Oppression by: Elmir
Zulfic

Letter for the reader

Dear reader, the reason why i am making a collection/book
is to show how common this word is and what it means. There are
a view different meanings for this word but they are similar in
some way because they are about unjust treatments. I chose the
topic oppression because i wanted to explain and show how this
word is used in the world. I have no connection to this word
myself but i do know that many people are victims of oppression
and a lot of the time it is not talked about. By reading night and
these other genres i have learned that the word oppression could
be physical abuse or it could be more about how look will not
allow you to have a specific job or something similar to that. The
overall message that i want to deliver is that this word can have a
very brutal definition and that you can help end oppression if
someone is a victim.

Oppression photo

Endnote
This picture is connected to oppression because it shows

the reality of how people are not in control of what they
can do and that it feels like they are in chains of some

sort. I chose this because it is a simple yet effective
picture that represents oppression.

Black Oppression Poem By: Wes

Sturdevant

It's about black oppression.
talking first about detection,

We need education.
Without confession.
The court is in session.
Silencing the depression,
there will be no progression.
Jailing blacks for possession.
Jailed with brutal aggression.
Jailed for any indiscretion.
Now this is my expression.
Maybe an obsession.

Here is a lesson.
Here is my question.
When will we end discrimination?

Endnote
This is connected to oppression because it talks about
how colored people always get in trouble and go to prison
rather than a white person and this shows how this keeps
happening even in today's society and the question is
when will this end? I chose this because this kind of thing
can be seen everywhere. It can be seen on the news,

movies, even TV shows. This NEEDS to change.

Oppression Quote By: Martin Luther
King, Jr.

“The ultimate tragedy is not the oppression and cruelty by
the bad people but the silence over that by the good
people.”

Endnote
This quote is related to the topic of oppression because it
talks about Oppression caused the good people to stay
silent because of how bad oppression was. I chose this

because Martin Luther King, Jr. was really famous and
was known for his speeches and quotes. He has such a

good way of explaining or describing exactly what he
wants you to know.

Word Cloud By: Elmir Zulfic

Endnote
My word cloud is related to my topic because in the center
i put my topic which is oppression and then the words that
surround it are some synonyms and antonyms of
oppression. I chose to do this because i wanted to show
what words have similar meanings to oppression and what
words mean the opposite of it. For example oppression is
a negative word but joy is one but is not limited to being a
good word.

Blackout poem by: Elmir Zulfic

Endnote

This poem is connected to oppression because it is about the unjust or cruel treatment
that these people have gotten at the time and how they had to suffer through it. I chose
to use this poem because it is a different style of poetry and i wanted to give it a try. And
i think it works well with showing my topic.

Passages collected from Night by Elie
Wiesel

1. “Look at the fire! Look at the flames! Flames everywhere…” once again, the
young men bound and gagged her. When they actually struck her, people
shouted their approval” (Night 26).

2. “One day when Idek was venting his fury, i happened to cross his path. He threw
himself on me like a wild beast, beating me in the chest, on my head, throwing
me to the ground and picking me up again, crushing me with ever more violent
blows, until i was covered in blood. As i bit my lips in order not to howl with pain,
he must have mistaken my silence for defiance and so he continued to hit me
harder and harder” (Night 53).

3. “Idek was on edge, he had trouble restraining himself. Suddenly, he exploded.
The victim this time was my father. “You old loafer!” he started yelling. Is this
what you call working?” and he began beating him with an iron bar” (Night 54).

4. “A-7713!” i stepped forward. “A crate!” he ordered. They brought a crate. “Lie
down on it! On your belly!” I obeyed. I no longer felt anything except the lashes of
the whip. “one!...Two!...” he was counting. He took his time between lashes. Only
the first really hurt. I heard him count: “Ten… Eleven!...” His voice was calm and
reached me as through a thick wall. “Twenty-three…” Two more, i thought half
unconscious. The Kapo was waiting. “Twenty-four...twenty-five!” (Night 57/58).

5. “Then came the march past the victims. The two men were no longer alive. Their
tongues were hanging out, swollen and bluish. But the third rope was still
moving: the child, too light, was still breathing…” (Night 64/65).
