OURPEOPLE

A Atlantic has evolved from a small-town

publishing company started in 1945 to a packaging
organization today capable of serving the largest
manufacturers across North America.

We’ve achieved this growth by following an entre-
preneurial spirit inspired by our founder while always
being attentive to the specific, day-to-day needs of
our customers. Our talent and expertise spans the
wide spectrum of packaging, converting, printing,
equipment and technical service.

Our people are the key.

Think Big.
Act Small.

PACKAGINGCONSULTANTS

We can design, build, and maintain a sophisticated pack-
aging line that best meets your needs.

Atlantic’s engineering team is an indispensable resource
for knowledge and insight of all components of your pack-
aging line. Our goal is to create a system that matches
your production and meets your demands for speed, ac-
curacy and performance.

Expertise coupled with advanced software and equipment
allows us to deliver a comprehensive packaging resource
that doesn’t end with the equipment installation. We aim
to form long-term partnerships to help meet demands as
you continue to grow and develop.

AUTOMATIONENGINEERS

Efficiency, speed, performance, and consistency
are all results of packaging line automation.

We develop and manage automation projects as
fundamental as installing a new machine that will
automate an operation and training your opera-
tors on its use. We also manage highly sophis-
ticated integration projects that require design-
ing, building, and programming entire packaging
lines.

Whatever the scope of your project, our auto-
mation consultants are adept at finding the solu-
tion that will help you meet production demands
while also managing costs.

MATERIALSPECIALISTS

We source stretch films, shrink films, protective materials,
tapes, strapping, and other materials that will perform at
optimum levels for each unique application.

Our specialists have been working with their respective
packaging materials for decades and have the advantage
of observing their use in a wide variety of environments.
They help match the right materials for each customer’s
equipment and application, advising on optimization tac-
tics that will improve performance.

Identifying the films and materials that improve appear-
ance, reduce damage, and ultimately lower costs brings
great value. We rely on these experts to ensure that every
customer is getting the most knowledgeable and well-in-
formed service possible.

HISTORY

The Atlantic Story
With a young journalist’s passion and his drive for
business success, Atlantic Packaging began in 1946
when W. Horace Carter founded a small town week-
ly newspaper, The Tabor City Tribune.

Carter accepted a job as the industrial recruiter for
Tabor City, North Carolina, with the added commit-
ment to start a newspaper. He attacked both chal-
lenges with zeal, but quickly faced an unexpected
foe in the hooded faces of the Ku Klux Klan.

Carter, a champion for justice, fought to purge his
new community of the prejudice and violence the
KKK promoted.

A two-year campaign of editorials brought financial
boycotts of his small paper, death threats and van-
dalism toward Carter and his family, but he emerged
victorious. His efforts exposed the Klan and sent
scores to prison.

For his bravery and community service, the Tribune
and Horace Carter were awarded the Pulitzer Prize
in 1952, the first awarded to a weekly newspaper in
the Pulitzer’s history. That really began the Atlantic
story.

1946 Atlantic Publishing began as a small town weekly newspaper,
the Tabor City Tribune, committed to social justice and
economic development.

1952 The Tabor City Tribune was awarded the Pulitzer Prize
after a two-year campaign of editorials by W. Horace
Carter fought to purge the community of the prejudice and
violence the KKK promoted. His efforts exposed the Klan
and resulted in the imprisonment of several hundred Klan
members. This was the first Pulitzer awarded to a weekly
newspaper in the history of the prize.

1960 Atlantic’s newspaper publishing was expanded into printing,
paper converting, and office products distribution. These
efforts served to meet the demands of the flourishing
industrial trades as well as the nearby coastal resorts of the
Grand Strand.

1970 Industrial supplies were added to our product offering
in order to serve the textile industry migration into the
southeast. Carter’s son, Rusty, joined the business full time in
1971 and began a greater emphasis on industrial markets.

1980 Atlantic opened its first regional branch in Wilmington,
expanding and concentrating more on packaging equipment
and material specialization.

1990 With expanded paper sheeting and rewinding capabilities
established in Wilmington, Atlantic moved more into the
printing, folding carton, tag, and label industry. Packaging
automation and integration divisions were launched and
the company added branch locations with emphasis on
greater technical service support. Paperboard converting
capabilities were expanded into the Triad area and industrial
distribution services covered the Carolinas.

2000 Rusty Carter’s son, Wes, joined Atlantic full time in 2002
adding a third generation to the family owned business.
Strategic acquisitions throughout this decade expanded
the national and international branch network to meet
logistics and to service the supply chain demand of our core
customers.

2010 Specialized printing capabilities moved into a 65,000 sq.
ft. Tabor City addition providing greater digital emphasis
and significant expansion of folding carton capability to
the Atlantic Printing and Graphics Division. Commercial
SBS paperboard converting capacity was expanded into
new branch locations in the northeast and midwest, further
extending our footprint for converting, distribution, and
packaging services.

TODAY Having acquired all of the International Paper Bleachboard
converting operation in 2014, our commercial converting
now has a national footprint and the largest capacity
for SBS converting worldwide. The same work ethic
and passion with which Horace Carter fought the KKK
has driven Atlantic’s spirit for service, performance, and
integrity. Still working daily in Tabor City, Horace Carter
passed away on September 16, 2009 at the age of 88.

making our recommendations and by delivering measurable results.

STRETCHPACKAGING

Atlantic’s Stretch Program is innovative and comprehensive. Our goal is to match
our customers with the best equipment, film, and wrap pattern that will result in
zero load failure and minimal film usage for every unique application.

Audit Process

Every stretch wrap project begins with an audit of the current process, film,
equipment, and application. We want to understand your goals when it comes to
stretch wrapping and find opportunities for improved performance.

Film Lab

Our state-of-the-art Film Lab allows our technicians to understand which film
formulations deliver the best containment force, puncture and abrasion resistance
as well as the best overall value for specific applications.

Stretch Wrappers

Stretch equipment comes in a wide variety of models with choices in specs and
options, including semi-automatics, platform automatics, conveyorized turntables,
rotary towers, and ring wrappers. Our sales and equipment experts can match you
with the stretch wrapper that best suits your application.

Stretch Film

Stretch Film is a critical component of effective packaging, protecting product
integrity as pallets travel from the manufacturer to the customer. At Atlantic,
we have the talent and the resources to match the right film and to set proper
benchmarks for each customers’ unique applications.

Hand & Boxed Film Machine Films

We believe that providing comprehensive education and training for our

customers on stretch wrap properties will result in reduced damage and cost
savings.

This is why we invite customers interested in our stretch program to join us
for Stretch University, a session that involves detailed information and hands-
on testing to demonstrate how all the elements of stretch wrap application
contribute to the best possible pallet wrapping method for a particular use.

Hands-On
Training

We invented the MUST monitoring system to audit and optimize stretch wrap

usage in order to eliminate damage during shipping and to reduce the overall cost
of wrapping a pallet.

Stretch Wrap Optimization

MUST Monitoring gives pallet wrap operators the necessary tool to ensure that no
load ever leaves your facility with improper stretch film application.

Cost Reduction

The monitoring response system alerts pallet wrap operators to changes in film
usage, promoting consistency across all loads and leading to significant cost
reduction in your stretch wrap operation.

Reduction in Break, Damage, and Loss

Installing MUST on your stretch wrapper results in tremendous costs savings from
reduced product damage that would otherwise occur due to poorly wrapped
loads.

MUST ends the unknown when it comes to stretch wrap applications. It
reveals the true unit cost of every pallet wrapped.

SHRINKPACKAGING

The experts that head up our Shrink Packaging program understand that the
most expensive minute for a customer is when a packaging machine is down. Our
goal is to have customers up and running 24/7. Our resources are also structured
to deliver improved productivity, reduced downtime, reduced costs, and improved
product appearance for our shrink packaging customers.

Audit Process

Our audit process for new shrink film customers is one of the most important
services we provide. During the audit, we evaluate the product, the current
application, and the entire shrink film process to understand the ultimate goals
and to find opportunities where our expertise can save money and improve
performance.

Shrink Team - Our shrink packaging team, including film specialists,

equipment sales people, and technicians, have decades of experience in both
recommending the right equipment with the right film for the application and in
making sure both work in harmony with each other. Our goal is to create a near
zero down-time environment in shrink packaging.

Shrink Equipment - We offer a comprehensive selection of shrink

packaging equipment including manual, fully automated, and shrink bundling
systems that can keep up with the speed of modern, advanced production and
packaging lines. Every piece of shrink equipment we sell is supported by a sales
and technical team who understand the importance of rapid response, overnight
production line make-ready, and the requirement for limited downtime.

Shrink Film

Shrink film is a heat shrinkable clear film that covers a wide range of multi-packing
and protective commercial applications. We offer films adept at bundling two like
products at 10 packages per minute or at protecting baked goods in trays being
wrapped at 150 packages per minute (and everything in between). Film thicknesses
range form 250 gauge (2.5 mils) to 30 gauge and in very specific applications can
be printed to become a billboard for marketing purposes, for tamper evidence, or
to prevent copycat duplication of a product in the marketplace.

variety of products and services we can offer as well as our 40 years of experience
working in the food packaging industry. We understand the time-sensitive
requirements of this industry and are equipped to meet these challenges daily.

Audit Process - The initial audit we perform for any new customer is

the foundation of the Atlantic flexible packaging process. Our specialized film
technicians observe current conditions with the equipment, materials, and overall
process. Our goal in performing the audit is to cut costs, reduce downtime, and
improve the packaging operations for our customers.

Flexible Packaging Team - With over 40 years of experience,

our experts in Flexible Packaging systems, materials, and support make up a
powerful team dedicated to customer success. Every member of our team holds
accountability for responding to our customers with the urgency they require. This

INDUSTRIALCONVERTING

Paper converting is one of the most versatile services we offer at Atlantic. This
versatility stems from the breadth of products we can create from rolls of raw paper
material and the range of industries we can serve.

Atlantic has the paper converting equipment and expertise to match our customers’
demands, from creating paper products, such as folding cartons and custom die cut
filter frames, to packaging products that require narrow width slitting and wide 5
color printing.

In addition, we can create a finished packaging product with 2 color up to 5 color
printing, folding, and gluing. With our print shop next door, we can add inserts and
labels as well as film or poly bags for shipment or retail.

We run industrial paper converting operations in key locations throughout the
U.S. with the ability to serve national accounts across North America. We source
the most competitive pricing to deliver paper rolls, cartons, sheets, and die cut
paperboard to our customers on time and as needed.

Die Cutting

We have die cutters ranging from 63” sheet fed up to 55” web fed die cutters
that produce complex die cuts on printed or unprinted material to create custom
packaging products.

Slitting & Rewinding Atlantic slitting and rewinding capabilities

produce a range of paper products in various widths and diameters, from 3/8”
narrow width slitting and up, including wide web printing capabilities. We deliver
one of the most diverse offerings in terms of slitting and rewinding in the industrial
paper converting marketplace.

Sheeting - Sheeting is a core component of our industrial converting

operations, providing custom slip sheets and layer sheets or sheets ready to be die
cut and printed. This capability provides nearly unlimited opportunities to serve our
customers with precision and quality.

Folding Cartons - Folding cartons are custom die cut, scored, perforated,

folded, glued and ready for our customers. We can help guide our customers to
choosing the best paper grade (coated or uncoated kraft, chipboard, or other
grades) for their final product. We also help design die cuts for custom cartons if
that will deliver the best fit for the product.

Wide Web Printing - Atlantic’s Charleston converting facility has

industrial flexographic printing capabilities that accommodate long runs of web fed,
inline paper rolls ranging from lightweight tissue up to heavy board grades. Our 5
color press prints roll-to-roll and can accommodate up to 60” diameters.

A unique capability of our wide web printing service is the ability to print on both
sides of the sheet in a single pass. Our flexo press is designed to print consumer
product wrappers and other industrial packaging products.
