Happy days! Charlesworth Sylvester Edwards Charlesworth Sylvester Edwards was born on March 25, 1947 in Bendal’s Village on the island of Antigua & Barbuda. Charlesworth was the 3rd child of seven children, born to the late Sybil Henry. As faith would have it, he, and his brother Denfield, were both raised by their grandparents, the late, Nathaniel and Catherine Brooks. The Brooks owned and operated, “Brooks Grocery Store.” Working in the store taught Charlesworth to assume responsibility and to work hard. His early education was completed at Bendal’s School, at the age of 16, striving for an successful future for himself, he undertook a new challenge, and began working with a local contractor, and became his apprentice in the field of carpentry. He learned quickly, excelled, and soon became a valued and respected young member on the contractor’s team. Being a West Indian child, Charlesworth had several nicknames to include, Charles, Charlo, Charlie, and Major. He was a lover of all sports, but cricket was his favorite. In 1968, at the age of 21, Charlie migrated to
St. Thomas, Virgin Islands and quickly began working in construction. He made friendships that would last a lifetime, and was known for his punctuality. You could even set your watch on him, and you would always be right on time. His love for cricket never diminished, and in 1976, he joined the St. Thomas Cricket Association. He played every position, and played each one well. His contributions to the team were significant. Playing cricket and following cricket was a major source of relaxation for him. Charlie was loved by many. Some would say that he was a bit of a ladies’ man. In the 1970’s, Charlo was blessed with twin daughters; Sherla and Shaka. Charlo’s employment on St. Thomas consisted of Jim Armour Enterprises, Winston Williams Co,, and the St. Thomas Reformed Church. It was while working at Armour Enterprises that met, fell in Charlo love with, and married Janet Garvey in 1996. Together they have enjoyed a marriage of 28 years. In 1989, when working with Winston Williams Sr, he developed a close relationship with his son, Winston Williams Jr., also known as Situmba. He took him under his wing while working at various construction sites and became a mentor and second father to him. Charlesworth’s journey towards Christianity began when he would listen faithfully to the radio broadcasts of Pastor George Phillip, of St. Thomas Assembly Of God Church. He was a faithful member, an avid church goer, who worshipped with that congregation for over 20 years. Charlesworth Sylvester Edwards, used his construction skills to be a blessing to many. His passing has left a great void in our lives, but his memory will live on in our hearts forever. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, cherished brother, uncle, devoted family man, and dependable friend, May his life, and legacy, be a beacon of joy and inspiration to us all. BLESSED BE THE NAME OF THE LORD!
