April 10 Shabbat Candle Lighting @ 8:00 pm

My friends,

Most of us have memories of Pesach seders that go back to our childhoods. Unfortunately, this Pesach is unlikely to be soon
forgotten, but as we know all too well, the reason for that is a scourge of a virus that has already taken a great many lives. We will
remember this Pesach not because we spent it with family and friends, but because we used technology as the last line of defense
against all of us being disconnected from each other on this holiday with such a strong tradition of big gatherings around the seder
table.
Let us look for the silver lining in this cloud. How amazing is it that we can come together through technology no matter where we
are in the world? And let us also remember that slavery in Egypt was horrific, the Holocaust was horrific, so many other things in
Jewish history were as well, but they all came to an end and the Jewish people survived. This virus too shall pass. We usually end
our seders with the words, “Next year in Jerusalem.” This year, perhaps we should add, “If not in Jerusalem, at least at one
another’s homes.”
I wish you all a happy, healthy, and kosher Pesach!
Rabbi Benjamin Sendrow
