Custom Quote for

Paul Dallgas-Frey

Paul,

Thank you for taking the time to meet with me last week and look over the landscaping project you would like to do in your
backyard! I think the ideas we talked about will provide you with a great place to relax and add value to your home.

I priced everything with the materials we had discussed and separated each part of the project so you can pick and choose
what items you would like to have done. This is the type of project that could easily be broken down into phases so you
would be able to have this installed over the course of a few years if your budget didn't allow for it to be done all at once. I
also included some information about Unilock's DO-IT-NOW program that offers some great financing options that may be a
tool you could use as well.

Please take a look through the material enclosed and let me know if you have any questions. Thank you for considering
Mirror Landscapes and I hope to be able to work with you soon!

Sincerely,

Jason Hemmer - Operations Manager & Sales

We realize the investment you’re about to make in your property is very important to you, so here
are the two things we know you’ll want to look at first.

#1: Our Pledge to You

A lot of companies will promise you pretty much anything. We could too. Or we could let our work
speak for us.
Now, it’s obviously impossible to prove anything on paper, but instead of spending a long time telling you
what to think about us, here’s what sets us apart:

» We tell you what you don’t need to spend your money on, because that’s being honest.
» We train our employees to do every part of their job right. Even the small jobs.
» We do good work. Period.
» We work hard—really hard.
» We will keep our shirts on while we work. It’s for the best.
» We clean up at the end of every day.
» We will visit you annually to see how everything is holding up.
» We guarantee our work for the lifetime of our business.

We want to be real and we want to be honest. It isn’t about simply running another business; it’s about
defining what a business should be. It’s about integrity.

#2: The Cost of Your Project

To do everything we talked about with you the cost would be: $16,603.42
All the other details of what this price includes, like the materials we’ll use, the work we’ll do, and all that
other good stuff is on the actual estimate page. Check it out.

Being an Authorized Unilock Contractor we are excited to be able to offer

the Unilock DO-IT-NOW program to our clients!

What can go wrong with

a

simple paver job?

Weeds are appearing
 Paver drift makes joints vulnerable
Pavers are settling
 Improper jointing sand
 Lack of wall reinforcement to

support weight of patio

 Lack of drainage

Wall is separating and leaning  Improper base material

 Poor base construction or material

 Insufficient compaction

 Excavation not deep enough for subsoil type

 Lack of drainage

Edges of walk are failing and pavers drifting apart
 Edge restraint absent or not secured properly
 Base wasn’t extended beyond edge of pavers

Small cut pieces
 Lack of attention to sidewalk layout
 Small pieces vulnerable to cracking

THIS CAN BE AVOIDED!

The long term performance of a paver

project depends on the high quality

workmanship below the surface.

PAVER CONSTRUCTION 101

1. Excavation

The first step in any paver construction project is EXCAVATION. The depth of
excavation will depend on two factors:

 The type of soil in your area – Clay soil will require a deeper
excavation; sandy soil will require less.
 How your paver surface will be used – Heavy loads like driveways and
retaining walls require deeper excavation, patios and sidewalks require
less.

2. Filter

Once the excavation is finished it is critical to separate the subsoil from the base

material.

 The filter fabric should be strong enough to not tear under load.
 Should be non-woven to allow for drainage.

PAVER CONSTRUCTION 101 (cont.)

3. Base

After the filter fabric is installed the next step is to install a suitable rock base,
preferably a well-draining angular rock

¾” – 1” in size.

 The depth of the base is determined by the type of load the project is
designed to handle.
 Base should be extended at least 6 inches beyond the edge of the paver
surface.
 Base material should be compacted in layers, using the proper
equipment.

4. Bedding Material

The next step is to install a small chip stone. The stone should be 1/4” to 3/8” in size
with no fine particles to allow for drainage. The small size also provides a smooth even
surface on which to lay the pavers.

PAVER CONSTRUCTION 101 (cont.)

5. Pavers

Now the fun part - installing the pavers.

 The pavers used should be from a high quality manufacturer with strict control

on tolerance, raw material, and psi ratings.

 Pavers should be installed with attention to layout, pattern, clean lines, smooth

cuts and even joints.

6. Finishing Touches

To finish the project, edge restraint and jointing sand are installed.

 Edge restraint should be spiked into the base using 12” steel spikes.

 Polymeric jointing sand is swept into and compacted in the joints to lock the

pavers together and to keep weeds and debris out of the joints.

Putting it all together:

Cross section of a paver system

A professional, knowledgeable

contractor will able to explain in
detail the purpose of each piece of

a pavement system.

How to choose a

GREAT contractor

Knowledgeable – A quality contractor should know their craft inside and
out and be able to give you all the information you need to make well-educated decisions.

Current – A quality contractor should work at keeping their company up to date on best practices,
new products, regulations, insurance requirements, safety procedures, and proper equipment.

Skilled – A quality contractor should be able to show you past work demonstrating their
capabilities, attention to every detail and mastery of the trade.

Honest – A quality contractor should explain the details of a project clearly –
especially the more unpleasant topics of cost, construction mess and realistic
time frame to complete the job.

REMEMBER

When it comes to hiring a contractor, the lowest price is rarely the
best choice. When comparing one contractor’s estimate to another,

make sure you are comparing apples to apples in terms of

installation methods, materials and the level of service provided.
