MONTGOMERY CELEBRATES THE BIG DONATION
MILESTONE ANNIVERSARY YIELDS BIG RESULTS

Our warehouse teams are a vital part of our operations and
meeting our goal of helping our members grow and achieve
their dreams. Twenty years ago, we opened the Montgomery
warehouse and team members gathered to celebrate two
decades of success. Executive VP of Operations Steve
Markley and VP of Logistics Tim Miller were both present to
congratulate the team on 20 great years. “It was a jubilant event
and Steve and I had the privilege to attend,” said Tim. “Twenty
years of serving our members and helping the company grow is
a great accomplishment. Thank you, everyone!”

As a way to honor President Emeritus Don Wolf’s commitment
to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Indiana, we launched The
Big DONation on his 90th birthday. We committed to matching
all donations up to $90,000, and in total the campaign brought in
$223,938 in new pledges for the organization.

“I’m blown away by the generosity of our community,” said
Josette Rider, CEO of BBBS of Northeast Indiana. “Do it Best not
only encouraged us to launch this initiative, you contributed to
the cause. With your challenge grant and the support of so many
others, we are better equipped today to grow our mission.”
While Don unfortunately passed away on September 11 before
the conclusion of the fund drive, he was an early contributor
and regularly kept updated on its progress. With the new funds,
BBBS plans to focus on matching more youth with mentors while
supporting those who have graduated from other BBBS programs
The team presented Tim and Steve with a plaque to mark the occasion. with additional job training, coaching, and college support.

ABOVE AND BEYOND: GEARING UP FOR GREATNESS IN GUATEMALA

Sales Division Executive Assistant Julia Monterroso has a special place in her heart for the people of Guatemala. She lived there
for over a year doing missions work, and it’s the country her husband Aldo calls home. A few visits back, Julia was inspired to
do something big to help the local school Aldo attended as a child. She was able to hand deliver school supplies to the students, but Julia
still wanted to do more.
On their most recent trip, Julia returned to the school and talked to the director about what she could do to help. “I was ready to build the
kids a playground, but I learned that their bathroom is in dire need of repair,” said Julia. “The school tries to maintain it but sometimes funds
don’t go far enough. On top of that, they don’t provide things like toilet paper, and if they do it runs out quickly.”
The list of needs for the bathroom is long. It needs paint, patches for holes in the roof,
and theft proof cages for the light bulbs that often disappear. Additionally, the wash
area needs tidying up and amenities like soap dispensers.
Julia plans to start small with simpler tasks and give students the opportunity to make
a little money for a half day’s work cleaning the area. Over the long term, she would
like to educate the children on how to take care of their bathroom and set up a plan
for keeping the facility stocked with essentials. “It’s not as flashy as a playground, but
I think it could make a big impact and I hope to start implementing some of my ideas
by December of 2020,” said Julia.

SARAH CELEBRATES FELLOWS Communications Intern Sarah Lewis recently graduated from the
Greater Fort Wayne (GFW) Fellows internship program. The GFW Fellows
GRADUATION program is a 12-week project-based internship designed to attract and
retain talented young people in Fort Wayne.
Being chosen for the program was no easy task. After submitting a
resume, cover letter, letter of recommendation, maintaining a 3.0 or
better GPA, and nailing several interviews, Sarah joined an elite group of
college students for the 2019 class of GFW Fellows. These participants
from Indiana and surrounding areas all lived together in Purdue Fort
Wayne campus housing provided through the program.
Part of the program included placement in an internship, which brought
Sarah to Do it Best. Assigned to work in Communications, she helped
Sarah (far left) stands with the other Fellows at their graduation banquet. on numerous projects including the planning and execution for The
Big DONation campaign. “This is the third year our department has
welcomed an intern from the Fellows program, and each time it’s been a great experience,” said Communications Director Randy Rusk.
“Sarah was ready to tackle any project we threw her way and everyone appreciated having her as part of our team.”
