Artist in the 5 workplace 6 Holiday festivities The Continuous Improvement team is ready to inspire action and enthusiasm as we explore the opportunities for reducing waste and boosting efficiency across our company. What is it? Continuous Improvement is an ongoing effort to enhance processes, products, and services within our organization. It involves identifying areas for improvement, implementing the changes, measuring the results, and consistently reassessing and refining operations for better efficiency, effectiveness, and overall performance. Why is it important? Director of Continuous Improvement Dan Dietlin explains, "Continuous Improvement provides team members with a sense of ownership and empowerment over their work. It allows them to identify problems, suggest improvements, and actively participate in the problem-solving processes. Our team benefits from a culture that prioritizes innovation, collaboration, and personal development, creating a win-win scenario for both individuals and our organization.” How does it work? Have you ever thought, ‘There must be a better way to do this.’ Well, you might be right. Continuous Improvement methods help identify problems and develop solutions. Check out these helpful tools: Continuous Improvement—Coming to a Location Near You! (L-R) James Hadden, Steve Rose, James Fisher, Mitch Shealy, Scott Smith, Colleen Myrick, Shawn Evans, Erica Beaudrot, Johnathan Anderson and (not pictured Brad Padgett). Interested in making improvements? If you're keen on improving processes within your department, collaborating with a division, or refining a process at an RSC, reach out to Director of Continuous Improvement Dan Dietlin or Continuous Improvement Leader James Fisher. Continuous Improvement is not just a concept—it's an opportunity for positive change, innovation, and collective success. Success Story: Lexington In September, the Continuous Improvement team visited Lexington to increase their lines per hour within a section. Within hours, they identified key issues, found more efficient methods, and achieved immediate gains, including congestion, steps, double touches, and a lower risk of glass damage. Lexington realized an ROI of $120,000— highlighting the substantial impact of simple brainstorming, collaboration, and execution. 1. Work with your team to identify opportunities for improvement. 2. Gather data and analyze performance metrics. 3. Review results, identify bottlenecks, and collaboratively devise new strategies. "The improvements we made had an instant positive impact and it was a great way to challenge current practices."

Facilities Operations Manager Joel Kuehnert said, “This project consists of adding 3.5" of dense closed cell foam insulation on top of the existing metal. The insulation is a very dense 1/2" hardboard that gives the roof a hail resistance factor that’s needed for this part of the country. Additionally, on top of the dense hardboard is a PVC membrane with a thickness equivalent to 25 trashbags laying flat on top of each other,” he added. above & beyond proud parents whats happening birthdays and anniversaries health and safety career opportunities WACO'S PLAN T0 BEAT THE HEAT Virgin Pulse Health & fitness GET For questions contact Insurance Coordinator Chelsea Ort. Fort Wayne welcomed the leadership team from 16 Gillman Home Center stores in Indiana and Ohio for two days of team building and leadership training in the Don Wolf Conference Center. FOSTERING HOPE FOR CHILDREN Territory Sales Manager Magnus Zapolski passed away on Thursday, December 7. Known as an enthusiastic Oregon Ducks fan, he poured that enthusiasm into all aspects of his life including his work with members, his wife Alana, and his daughters Jessica and Kristen. “Magnus was the ultimate professional,” said Regional Sales Manager Kevin Tindall. “His word meant everything and his incredible follow-through quickly developed meaningful relationships with his members.” His legacy is not merely in the success he achieved but in the countless lives he enriched with his integrity, warmth, and relentless positivity. REMEMBERING MAGNUS ZAPOLSKI It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Systems Administrator Mike Niemeyer, who dedicated nearly 40 years to serving our company. He leaves an indelible mark on both the organization and the many lives he touched. He began his career at Do it Best in the print shop but spent much of his time in the IT division where he always served you with more than what you were requesting. "He cared about helping people the most,” says Systems Administration Manager Todd Bussen. “Mike was passionate about what he did and that’s what drove him every day." Outside of work, Mike's servant heart was evident in his extensive volunteer work. He was an avid supporter of the United Way pledge drive, Paint-a-thon, Heart Walk, and Day of Caring, always showing up with his truck and tools, ready to offer more than needed. Mike's three doting sisters were a significant support during his courageous battle with cancer, a testament to the love and care that defined his life. Mike treated his coworkers as family. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, dedication, and an unwavering spirit of service. REMEMBERING MIKE NIEMEYER Connor Moreton-Richards and Jimmy Ramirez posed with their check. Then, he demonstrated mastery of each competency during a rigorous 3-hour assessment. HR Director Celeste Stevens said, “The Administration Division surprised Nathan with a celebration honoring his accomplishment. Nathan is made for HR, and HR is made for him. He’s passionate about the profession, our team, and is a continuous learner. We’re all lucky to have Nathan on the team, and I’m excited to watch his future unfold here at Do it Best.” NATHAN EARNS CERTIFICATION Nathan and the HR team celebrated his accomplishment. After 15 years of participating in the Adopt a Family Program, Sikeston’s employee board suggested they reach out to local school districts to bless children in need this season. After an incredible response from five superintendents, the Sikeston team met with the wishes of 19 children in the area. “I am always amazed at the compassion and generosity of our team when we do this each year, and this year exceeded that," said Department Manager Mark Ponder, “I want to thank our employee board for the suggestion and our team for showing out in a big way. What a way to spread Christmas spirit,” he said. ADOPTING KIDS IN NEED Mesquite General Manager Gary Loosle stopped by the Mesquite Police Department to present a check for $1,400 in support of their annual Shop with a Cop event. This money was collected during a recent donation drive, which has been a regular part of the Mesquite team's generosity. "I'm proud of our connection to our community," says Gary. "We've got an engaged team that cares about making Mesquite a better place to live, work, and play and we see Shop with a Cop as just one more way to give back." Shop with a Cop provides an opportunity for Mesquite-area youth to interact with officers, receive needed items, and enjoy some fun Christmas gifts each year. MESQUITE TEAM SUPPORTS SHOP WITH A COP Gary displayed the check next to two Mesquite police offers. The creative endeavors of our Graphics team go well beyond their work for Do it Best and our members. While they certainly bring inspiration to circular design, promotional materials, slide presentations, and much more, they often pursue creative outlets beyond the workplace that have little to do with their day-today responsibilities but certainly still inspire. As we step into the holiday season, Graphic Artist Andy Garringer brought in a finished model that he painted and customized for additional accuracy. Check out his craftsmanship bringing this scene from How the Grinch Stole Christmas, where Cindy Lou Who encounters the Grinch. THIS ARTIST IS NO GRINCH, INSPIRES WONDER IN THE DETAILS The carefully crafted Grinch is daunting to Cindy Lou Who. After seeing a post on Workplace looking for coaches for the fall season of Girls on the Run, Advertising Service Representative Rose Smith signed up to volunteer. Rose spent 10 weeks working with girls ranging from 3rd to 5th grade. “I loved seeing the bond grow between the girls over the 10 weeks. I noticed changes in some of the girls and I truly believe the program enhanced their skills to help them finish the 5K race,” she said. “For me, placing the medals on my girls as they ran over the finish line was priceless.” GIRLS ON THE RUN Rose ran with a student to the finish line to complete the 5K race.

A live DJ played holiday tunes during dinner and mixed it up after the lights went down. Retirees and team members enjoyed a tasty dinner. The employee board threw a wonderful party for everyone to enjoy. To mix up their day-to-day routine, team members from IT came together for a dessert contest where contestants' decadent dishes were judged by their presentation, best cookies, best cake/pie, best pastry, and best pudding/jello. As the holidays end, millions of Americans give up alcohol during a month-long sobriety challenge called “Dry January.” While a month of sobriety can seem overwhelming to some, it comes with some big advantages. Research shows even a brief break from alcohol for moderate to heavy drinkers can produce immediate health benefits. Among them: • Weight loss • Better sleep • Improved mood and energy levels • Increased physical activity due to more energy • Better diet due to better dietary restraint and less empty calorie intake • Decreased growth factors related to cancer, insulin resistance, and blood pressure • A reduction in liver fat and blood sugar If you’re looking for a health goal to start the year off strong, consider abstaining from alcohol. Not a big alcohol drinker? Abstaining from sugary drinks offers additional health benefits! Issue 1, 2024 SAFETY CORNER Presented by Mike Morris PREPARE BEFORE YOU GO FOCUS ON HEALTH: DRY JANUARY CAN MEAN A LOT TO YOUR HEALTH Whether it’s snow, sleet, or ice, winter weather can cause dangerous road conditions. Preparing yourself, and your vehicle, for winter weather is key. Follow these helpful tips as you prepare to brave the cold this year: 1. Check your vehicle's cooling system for leaks, test the coolant, and drain or replace the old coolant. 2. Make sure defrosters and all windshield wipers work. Replace any worn blades. 3. Pack a snow shovel or ice scraper in case of heavy snowfall or ice. 4. Inspect your tires. The tread should be at least 2/32 of an inch or greater on all tires, including your spare. Take time to cover your bases before going out on the road so you are prepared for anything.
