ANNUAL PLEDGE CAMPAIGN KICKS OFF NOV. 6–17 Find, Friend & Follow Us Issue 11 | 2023 3 Honoring Servant Leadership © 2023 Do it Best. All rights reserved. 6 Team Appreciation Night 11 Keep the Flu Away We all work to be difference makers in the lives and businesses of our members every day. In that same spirit, our servant led team also generously gives their time, talent, and treasure to the communities where we live, work, and play. Over the last four years, the Do it Best Foundation has played an increasingly important role in helping identify the areas of greatest need and providing grants to fund the projects, programs, and initiatives that support health and wellness, youth enrichment, the arts, and the community. Beginning November 6, you’ll have the opportunity to make your pledge of support for the 2024 campaign. “Since 2019, the Foundation has awarded grants totaling nearly $1 million to over 70 local organizations tackling hunger, access to health care, emergency relief, counseling, and therapy services, and so much more that provides stability to our communities,” notes Nick Talarico, president of the Do it Best Foundation. “By streamlining our 2024 campaign, we’ll be able to make even more meaningful grants in each of the places we call home.” During the two weeks of the November campaign, you and the rest of the team across the country will be asked to consider making a weekly pledge through payroll deduction, offering a one-time contribution, or providing support to a fundraiser event or activity. All contributions are fully tax deductible and collectively make an even bigger impact in the lives of those we’re serving. “For many years our 5 children have developed numerous skills through programs supported by our Do it Best Foundation,” says Director of INCOM and International Sales Christian Parra. “They've led productions with the Fort Wayne Youth Theatre, and performed at the Arts United Civic Theatre's The Nutcracker with Fort Wayne Ballet. We've enjoyed the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo and participated in Fort4Fitness. We look forward to supporting the Foundation’s 2024 pledge campaign knowing our contribution will continue to benefit many others in our area.” Building an even bigger impact. Supporting Persistence Pays Off. With the growth of the Do it Best Foundation over the last four years, we’ve greatly enhanced our effectiveness in getting grants where they’re needed most. “Historically, we’ve partnered with United Way as they were best equipped to assess the needs in the community and pool the necessary funding to drive results,” says Community Affairs Manager Randy Rusk. “But with our Foundation’s effectiveness at fundraising among our team and our vendors, supported by our grant evaluation committee of staff volunteers and our seasoned board of directors, we’re now in a much better place to effectively lead that community assessment ourselves. But we’re not walking away from the United Way. They remain a valued partner and we are committed to supporting them in 2024, just in a different way.” Building the Best Communities continued on page 2 Supporting the United Way For the coming year, United Way has presented a sizable grant request to fund their Persistence Pays Off program. This initiative works to support more students in their pursuit of college degrees by helping eliminate some of the barriers that would keep them from completing their schooling. With support from case managers and counselors, and in collaboration with Ivy Tech Community College and Purdue University Fort Wayne, students have access to emergency financial assistance (food, transportation, and educational fees not covered by financial aid), effectively keeping 94% of struggling students in school, even while 66% of them held down a job. “It’s a partnership that works,” says Randy. “And one we know our long-time United Way supporters will rally behind.” Mesquite General Manager Gary Loosle presents a Foundation grant to Mesquite Cancer Help Society at a recent city council meeting.

2 Issue 11, 2023 YOUR SECOND PAYCHECK: DON'T LET YOUR PTO GO TO WASTE Do it Best has partnered with Unified Group Services and Virgin Pulse to bring you a new health incentive program. Beginning January 1, 2024, all team members and eligible spouses enrolled in our medical insurance will create a Virgin Pulse account and begin earning points. Earn 5,000 points by October 1, 2024, to earn the full healthcare incentive (more information to come). The app will allow participants to complete a Health Risk Assessment and get a physical in addition to other activities to earn points. Note: Onsite biometric testing is no longer offered. Virgin Pulse promotes year-round wellness and engagement and has accessible options for everyone. Whether your goal is to lose weight, quit smoking, sleep better, or just take steps towards healthier habits, you’ll earn points for all the progress you make. By expanding to a yearround offering, you have the flexibility that you need, and you are in the driver's seat of your own health. FROM INSURANCE COORDINATOR CHELSEA ORT INSURANCE TIPS Each year, team members are given the option to elect to either roll over or be paid out for a portion of unused PTO hours that will accrue in the following calendar year. These elections need to be made before PTO is accrued, so team members need to make an election for the unused 2024 PTO by November 17, 2023. If you don’t make a PTO election, you will forfeit any unused PTO at the end of 2024. Warehouse team members should talk to their office coordinators to make their election, and the Fort Wayne and field teams will complete the form as part of benefits open enrollment which begins November 1. VIRGIN PULSE: YOUR NEW HEALTHCARE INCENTIVE PROGRAM EASY ACCESS TO COMPANY INFORMATION For company highlights and information visit the newsroom on Workbench. Local dollars building the local community. For 2024, each warehouse will have an enhanced opportunity to impact their local community. When you participate in our campaign, every dollar stays local. An advisory committee at each warehouse made up of the general manager, an office coordinator, and three staff volunteers will act as local ambassadors for the Do it Best Foundation. They will advocate to area not-for-profits to apply for a grant. Then, during each quarterly review cycle, as local grant requests are received, the general manager will convene the advisory committee and make a recommendation to the Foundation that they be granted (or declined) based on the pool of dollars raised at each location. “I’m proud of our team’s history of community involvement,” shares Mesquite General Manager Gary Loosle. “We’ve been longtime supporters of United Way of Southern Nevada, but with them based in Las Vegas, our community wasn’t always receiving the full benefit of our pledges and donations. Now, through the Foundation, our volunteer advisory group will ensure that all of our dollars raised stay local. Plus, the Foundation may still fund requests above and beyond what we raise here.” Building the Best Communities continued from page 1 CALLING ALL RETIREES Later this year, Family News is going completely online. Join our Facebook community for access to the latest Family News and event information while networking with other retirees. WELCOME TUCKER Retiree Diane Rorick welcomed her grandson Tucker James Zurbrugg on June 15 of this year. Issue 11, 2023 3 CELEBRATE Governor Holcomb toured Electric Works for the first time since his initial visit for the announcement of Do it Best as the anchor tenant on February 13, 2020. He toured the bustling mixed-use campus before joining our team in the Don Wolf Conference Center and other community members as he presented Do it Best President and CEO Dan Starr with the Sagamore of the Wabash award. “As the leader at Do it Best, Indiana’s largest privately-held company, Dan’s contributions have had immense positive impacts on his community and our state,” said Governor Holcomb. “As a driver of relentless innovation and company culture, he’s set a standard for facing difficult challenges head-on, never losing sight of the customer. For all of his accomplishments and model servant leadership, I’m proud to recognize Dan today before his peers with the Sagamore of the Wabash award.” The Sagamore of the Wabash Award is reserved for the Governor of Indiana to recognize select leaders each year who significantly contribute to their community, workplace, and the lives of those they touch. In receiving the honor, Dan said, “I’m honored and humbled to receive the Sagamore of the Wabash award. I've always believed that true leadership is about serving others—it's a philosophy that guides us at Do it Best, and I'm fortunate to work with a team that shares this commitment. This award is a testament to the strength of our company and the incredible growth and community we've built together.” HONORING SERVANT LEADERSHIP Governor Holcomb presented President and CEO Dan Starr the Sagamore of the Wabash Award. HELPING SAVE LIVES The Do it Best Foundation is committed to strengthening the communities where we live, work, and play. Our Mesquite team particularly enjoys the natural beauty in an area known as the Arizona Strip, which is larger than several states and welcomes more than 5 million visitors each year. But with an area this big, time is a critical factor when someone is lost or injured and needs to be rescued. The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue team is an all-volunteer group trained to spring into action for any number of emergency scenarios. To assist them in their efforts, the Do it Best Foundation provided a grant to purchase a high-tech drone that can quickly cover more ground, day or night, to find stranded hikers and pinpoint their location for a faster rescue. 4 Issue 11, 2023 Making an Impact EMPOWERING SELF-SUFFICIENCY There are nearly 40 areas in Allen County that are considered food deserts, or areas where people don't have access to grocery stores and fresh food. Further, more than 1 in 3 households can’t afford the basic costs of housing, food, healthcare, childcare, and transportation, despite being employed. To take on these challenges, Come As You Are Community Church received grant support from the Do it Best Foundation to create a garden space to promote community, combat hunger, and foster a new generation of agricultural thinkers. “We provide raised beds for community youth to grow food with their families, educate them through on-site events, support agri-tourism, and create row crops designed for a continual harvest,” says Kenya Garris. “We believe that an approach toward healthy living and sustainable agriculture can have a long-term impact in empowering this area of our city.” A young girl is ready to fill her wheelbarrow with dirt to plant crops. BUILDING A BAMBOO FOREST The excitement continues at the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo with the opening of Bamboo Forest Adventure Play and Marketplace on Saturday, September 30. Bamboo Forest Adventure Play and Marketplace are part of the reimagined Asian Trek area of the zoo and is located across from Red Panda Ridge, which opened in May. “We are always excited to bring new experiences to the zoo, but we can’t do that without the support of the community, our members, but especially our generous donors,” said Rick Schuiteman, executive director. “We were so lucky to have one of those donors on hand today, the Do it Best Foundation.” Members of The Do it Best Foundation board, staff, and family members were on hand Saturday for the official ribbon cutting and helped the zoo welcome the first guests to Bamboo Forest Adventure Play and Marketplace. "The Do it Best Foundation is proud to support projects that strengthen Northeast Indiana as a great place to live, work, and play,” Foundation board member, President and CEO Daniel Starr said. “Fort Wayne is truly blessed to have a world-class zoo, and with the Bamboo Forest, we're pleased to be able to do our part to ensure it creates lasting memories for children and their families for years to come." The sheriffs posed with their new high-tech drone. The foundation board posed in front of the new Bamboo Forest with members of the zoo. Issue 11, 2023 5 JAMMING INTO THE NIGHT The Do it Best Foundation hosted Out of a Jam's annual gala in the Don Wolf Conference Center. Out of a Jam, a 2023 Foundation grant recipient, welcomed over 200 supporters for a fundraiser dinner and gala, featuring a great meal, as well as their students' homemade jams, jellies, cakes, spice rubs, and more. “As we open our conference center to the community, it's always interesting to see how they personalize it to their event,“ said Community Affairs Manager Randy Rusk. “It was also exciting to see how we were able to amplify our impact on this great organization by providing the meeting space.“ PURSE REVERSE CRISIS SHELTER FUNDRAISER The popular Purse Reverse auction and fundraiser for St. Joseph Missions took place in the Don Wolf Conference Center on Friday night. St. Joseph Missions, a 2022 Do it Best Foundation grant recipient, is committed to empowering homeless women and honoring their dignity. Their shelter is Fort Wayne’s first 24/7/365 emergency shelter for single homeless women, providing a safe and supportive environment for those who need it most. What is a Purse Reverse? It turned the traditional raffle prize drawing on its head while still giving away 16 high-end designer purses throughout the evening. Participants enjoyed heavy hors d'oeuvres and numerous prize drawings as emcees Vice President of Operations Dent Johnson and Community Affairs Manager Randy Rusk showed their utter lack of knowledge about high-end fashion. “It was a whirlwind night of laughs and lots of excitement from the winners,“ said Randy. “But most importantly, money was raised for food, transportation, counseling services, and operations at the St. Joseph Missions Women's Shelter.” SUPPORTING THE ARTS WITH CHALLENGE GRANT The Do it Best Foundation joined civic and community leaders in supporting the capital campaign for A Soaring Vision, the Arts United Center's initiative to honor and update the iconic 50-year community arts center, making it more accessible and inclusive for everyone in Northeast Indiana. Foundation President and Vice President of Sales and Marketing Nick Talarico made an ask of other city businesses to join us in completing the final round of funding by issuing a challenge grant of $250,000. “This grant, the largest we’ve awarded to date, reflects our commitment to our community and our strong interest in bringing additional vitality to downtown Fort Wayne,” he said. “So here’s our ask. We’re offering this challenge grant as a way for other businesses in downtown Fort Wayne and throughout Allen County and Northeast Indiana to join us in this next big step in the history of the Arts United Center—just as area businesses did 50 years ago when they made the bold decision to bring this remarkable space to our community.” Joined by Arts United board members and staff, the Do it Best Foundation presents a challenge grant. Women filled the room as Dent and Randy auctioned off purses. Attendees enjoyed an assortment of food. Watch the news coverage here. Learn more about St. Joseph Missions here.

Team members from Merchandising, Lumber and Building Materials, Logistics, and Sales joined the Negotiation Essentials Workshop led by Greg Zirkle, Director of business & executive programs in the Lifetime Learning Department at Ball State University. The interactive and collaborative workshop was held to teach concepts and strategies regarding negotiation and how to apply those strategies in our daily work. Some of the most impactful moments occurred during the breakout sessions where each team participated in engaging discussions to develop best practices for the different steps of negotiation. After the session, team members left knowing their own selling styles, how to establish best practices for vendor meetings, and tactics to use during those meetings.
