The YubiKey to SOARing in Heating up safety
better security Sikeston awareness

Mesquite Sets a Five Year Safety Streak

Each morning, staff at our warehouses stretch to warm up their bodies. The
routine helps some sharpen their alertness, and it has the power to prevent
injuries for all. Safety culture plays a big part at Do it Best because we want
everyone to be able to go home and enjoy life outside of work.

Team members in Mesquite are proud of their latest safety streak. For five
consecutive years, there have been no lost-time accidents. From receiving, to
stocking, to order filling, shipping, and quality control, this team has encouraged
everyone to strive for five. The only other warehouse to surpass this achievement
was Waco in 2016, when the team went 2,532 days—that’s nearly 7 years—
without a lost-time incident or accident.

“This is an incredible accomplishment,” says Safety Manager Mike Morris.
“It takes an entire team working safely day in and day out and looking out for
one another.”

Everyone can prevent injuries that require time off work. Mike says back injuries

are the most common and can be prevented with safe lifting practices shown in

one-on-one training and annual safety certifications. Aside from remembering

to lift with your legs and stretch off the clock, a great acronym to remember to

prevent injury is HURTS.

SAFETY CORNER Presented by Mike Morris
BEAT HEAT-RELATED ILLNESS

Summer temperatures will be here before we know it and all ages and
health conditions are prone to heat-related illnesses. As long as you
remember to stay cool, hydrated, and informed, you will beat the heat.

Stay Cool
• Wear lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing.
• Stay in an air-conditioned place as much as possible including your
own home, shopping malls, or your public library.
• Remember your local health department may have heat-relief
shelters in the area for those without access to AC.
• Keep in mind electric fans may provide comfort, but when the
temperature is in the high 90s, they won’t prevent heat-related
illness.
• Plan outdoor activities during the coolest parts of the day in the
morning and evening.
• Wear sunscreen! Sunburns affect your body’s ability to cool down
and can make you dehydrated.
• Avoid hot, heavy meals that add heat to your body.

Stay hydrated Stay informed
• Don’t wait until you’re thirsty to drink water. • Know the signs and symptoms of heat-related illnesses.
• If your doctor limits the amount you drink or has you on water • Check your local news for extreme heat alerts
pills, ask them how much you should drink while the weather is
hot. • Use a buddy system and never work alone in the heat.
• Steer clear of very sugary or alcoholic beverages, which actually
cause you to lose more body fluid. • Keep an eye on your young, old, and at-risk neighbors,
• Avoid ice cold drinks because they can cause stomach cramps.
• If you’re sweating profusely, reach for a sports drink like Gatorade co-workers, and loved ones.
to replace the salt and minerals you lose in sweat.
• Don’t forget about Fido! Provide plenty of fresh water for your
pets and leave the water in a cool, shady area.

FOCUS ON HEALTH:
DO YOU LIKE TO BIKE?

The weather is warming up and there’s no better time to celebrate
National Bike Month. This mode of transportation offers numerous
benefits including saving on gas money, lower CO2 emissions,
overall physical health, reducing stress, and improving mental
focus.

Biking is a healthy habit to enjoy alongside your entire family and
your friends. Kids can experience the fun of biking with thousands
of others across the country by participating in National Bike
to School Day on May 4. Don’t worry—adults can get in on the
fun too with National Bike to Work Day on May 20. These days
also raise awareness for drivers to look out for cyclists during the
commute to and from work.

To learn more about prime biking locations in your area, look up
local biking Facebook groups or ask friends and coworkers where
they bike. Sites like TrailLink.com can be used to find safe trails in
your area as well.
