Find, Friend & Follow Us Issue 6 | 2023 Celebrating 5 our grads © 2023 Do it Best. All rights reserved. 14 Cinco de Mayo celebrations “When we started planning out how we’d make Building 26 our new home on the Electric Works campus, something that took hold early on was the idea of building a space not only for our team to gather, but a space we could open to the community,” said President and CEO Dan Starr. “Our spirit of service, combined with our increased presence on this campus, pretty much called us into action.” That idea turned into the Don Wolf Conference Center, named after our second president and CEO, who oversaw tremendous growth during his 25 years leading the company. The conference center can be used for quarterly all-staff meetings, conferences, events, and more. It’s built with easy-to-run video and audio elements for flawless presentations. But, most importantly, the space gives us the opportunity to continue working with our community. Team members gathered in the Don Wolf Conference Center on May 10 to dedicate the meeting room in Don’s honor. Joining Dan in the dedication were Don’s wife Ginny, their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Josette Rider, executive director of Big Brothers Big Sisters, and Zach Washler, community coordinator for Study Connection, represented two organizations that Don founded to provide children with a better start in life. “This room has already welcomed Study Connection students from Study Elementary for weekly after-school tutoring sessions. Study Connection is an important program that this room has allowed us to carry over from our old building,” said Dan. “I think in some ways Don might be a little embarrassed by this dedication and he would put the credit to so many other people. But I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this honor.” Dedication Honors Servant Leadership

Eric loved a good challenge, and cold-calling was a specialty of his. Eric worked with the contractors throughout the Electric Works project, and got our product into every aspect of the renovation—from tools to cleaning supplies; from construction materials to the electrical conduit. We wish him the best as he enjoys his retirement. He will be greatly missed by our team,” he said. TYLER TAKES OFF Meghanne with her trophy from the bake off Merchandise Manager Greg Fields was celebrated on May 1 as he retired from Merchandising after 11 years of service. Staff packed the DWCC on May 26 to celebrate the retirement of Accounts Payable & Claims Supervisor Beth Garstka after a 24-year career. Her colleagues set up an engaging trivia game, including fun and humorous questions about Beth's life and experiences. VP of Finance Doug Roth spoke, along with President and CEO Dan Starr, Finance Controller Craig Leichty, and coworkers: AP/AR Claims Supervisor Brad Drysdale, Credit Administrator Anne Guest, and Assistant Controller Misty Hernandez. “Beth has been a great example of a servant leader throughout her career, caring deeply about her team and coworkers. She was instrumental in the development of the Member Invoice Manager system from its development stage to full implementation. The system allows our team to work more efficiently and it’s had a positive impact on our members, allowing them to see their invoices online and pay electronically,” said Finance Controller Craig Leichty. In retirement, Beth and her husband Chris are planning to relocate to the South Bend area to be closer to their four grandsons. She is also looking forward to being a snowbird during the winter months with no time pressures of having to return to work. 4 Issue 6, 2023 BETH GARSTKA CLOSES HER ACCOUNT Perry Kuzma retired from the Sales division on May 27 after 15 years of service. Close colleagues of Perry's gathered for a round of golf and dinner to celebrate his retirement. “Perry held various roles in his time at Do it Best. He worked alongside several territory sales managers as a part of the new business team. He brought an infectious energy and passion for signing new members that others were able to emulate. Perry has a natural ability to dig into a prospective member’s needs and expedite the sales process. We wish Perry the very best in retirement,” said Director of Field Sales Mike Melchi. Perry looks forward to relaxing and enjoying some down time after retirement. Issue 6, 2023 13 Vice President of Finance Doug Roth is taking the next steps in his professional growth by enrolling in the Chief Financial Officer Program from the Columbia Business School of Executive Education. The program will further his knowledge of capital markets, risk management, leadership, and more. CONTINUOUS LEARNING Associate Merchandise Manager Brittany Peavler attended the 2023 Association of Junior Leagues International (AJLI) conference. The mission of AJLI is to advance women’s leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboration, and training. “This conference taught me more about Junior Leagues best practices, allowed me to meet others in leagues our size, and prepare myself for my new role of president-elect for the 2023- 2024 league year,” Brittany said. Brittany will serve in the role for one year before transitioning to president. BRITTANY PEAVLER TO PRESIDENT-ELECT Team Montgomery sent a check to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in the amount of $1,600. The fundraising effort is part of a long-term initiative that first began after Montgomery team member Linda Kiriakou was diagnosed with brain cancer. Jennifer Carl, a longtime team member, recruited coworkers to participate in Relay for Life to raise funds and awareness for Linda. Unfortunately, Linda passed away in 2011, and another team member Rosemary Moulthrop succumbed to the disease years later. Jennifer lost her father to cancer, which gave her further purpose to continue fundraising. Montgomery has remained focused on collecting funds from employee events to raise money for St. Jude, and their donation is a testament to their ongoing dedication MONTGOMERY MAKES A BIG DONATION Love Inc. is a nonprofit organization local to the Woodburn community that supports low income families struggling to meet the needs of their children. Several team members wore groovy apparel for the event along with fun accessories. After lunch, there was a drawing for five unique packages of all things outdoors. There were over 200 submissions! Issue 6, 2023 Do it Best has a long tradition of supporting the communities we serve and Study Connection is one just one way we live out that commitment. For the past few months, we have opened our doors to 14 students from Study Elementary, and 14 team members have volunteered an hour each week to invest in these children. To celebrate the hard work of studying, reading, and learning each week, Do it Best and FWCS hosted an end-of-the-year pizza party. In addition to enjoying pizza, students also watched the movie Luca, played pop-a-shot, and enjoyed some quality time with their tutor. Study Connection will return in the fall to support additional students!
