For Operations and Sales

Document Version 1.1 Dated March 03, 2018

Plan the customer transition to Desigo CC.

Desigo CC can be installed and run in parallel with an active Apogee Insight job. Doing this can help ensure a
smooth transition, allow for verification, and allows critical operations to take place during the migration period.

If both systems are utilized during migration, there should be a plan for the removal of the Insight system. The
customer may need encouragement to make use of Desigo instead of Insight.

If you want this to be effective, you need to have a plan to wean them off of the system that they have been
using for years and are very familiar with. One common practice is that as buildings are migrated, you start
removing the graphics and other functionality on Apogee Insight for those buildings. This forces them to start
using Desigo CC, building confidence and bringing up questions that will lead to better building operation.

If both systems are available and fully functional, the customer may continue to exclusively use Insight. Make
sure you have a plan for this.

Potential Issues with existing installations

InfoCenter

Desigo CC will perform long term storage (like InfoCenter), but it is not a replacement. It will not import InfoCenter
databases. Insight and InfoCenter will need to be kept running for a period of time after Desigo CC is operational and has
been set-up with the same storage parameters. At some point when there is enough overlap, you can decide to turn
InfoCenter off and set it aside for retrieval of old data as needed.

The thought right now (still under consideration) is that we will eventually have a way for Desigo CC to open the database
files that were created under InfoCenter. We would NOT import those databases into Desigo CC: we would just have a
mechanism to open them from Desigo CC. So if you wanted to get at data for some temperatures from 5 years ago, there
would be a way to mount those files and display them.

Maintenance Management

We currently do not have a solution for maintenance management. We are talking with Maximo to try to figure
out the best way to move forward.

BACnet server:

Desigo CC does not have a BACnet server option. There are a few options for replacing this functionality:

 OPC is supported with Desigo CC
 WebServices - If you need to get data into or out of the system, you can use WebServices. This

requires programming on the part of the customer (or whoever wants the data) to pull the data from our
system. We have a standard API and a manual that explains how to program the API.
 MSIB is middleware software designed to meet integration needs at the IP and web service level. It
supports real time collaboration of data between the local BAS and external data sources or
consumers. Contact Jeff Wills for more information

TOS -Tenant Override System

We currently do not have a Siemens solution for TOS – but there is a company named Genea that has a cloud
based solution that should work. It's called “After Hours Control System (ACS Cloud)”

https://www.getgenea.com/products/after-hours-control-system/

Energy Reports – CSV data

Many Apogee Insight Systems have trends set up that automatically generate CSV files at a predetermined
interval. These are often used for energy monitoring, but there are many applications that use this as an input.
Desigo CC can also create CSV files based on trend data. The data is likely to be in a different format and any
import routines that you have for these CSV files may have to be modified to accommodate the Desigo CSV
data structure.

SQL Database – access not available to customers

Although SQL is a part of our database structure, it is not in a format that can be used by customers. They can
NOT perform SQL queries on our database to get data.

School Dude and EMS

School Dude and EMS are applications that allow scheduling of classrooms (very simplified answer). There is
an Apogee Insight driver for School Dude and it has been deployed on a few jobs. Desigo CC does not support
School Dude at this time. The custom solutions group (contact Jeff Wills) has looked into creating a solution for
both of these applications. They have a basic plan of how to do it and are just waiting for someone to order it,
so that they can develop it.

Dialogic Voice Calling

Not supported and nothing is planned.

Cross Trunk

Supported in Desigo CC 3.0

P2 networks

P2 network connections are supported if they are on Ethernet. If they are RS-485 networks then a virtual or
Physical AEM must be installed to convert them to Ethernet. These have been supported for a few years

Validation

Validation is supported in Desigo CC 3.0. Contact Lonnie Spears for more information.

Field Panel Compatibility and Integration Drivers

Generally speaking, we can connect any legacy controllers on an Ethernet network to Desigo CC, all the way
back to back to SCUs. To use these older, obsolete panels, you must upgrade them to revision 2.8 firmware.

The firmware is free until September 30, 2018 as long as you are performing a migration. Be advised that the
labor to install the firmware is not free, and the controllers require a certain amount of free memory to function
properly. If you have a lot of trending, etc. at the panel, you may have to reduce that to load the new firmware.
Frequent or random coldstarts usually indicate a lack of free memory.

Document Version 1.1 Dated March 03, 2018

If you have a RS-485 network (twisted pair) you will have to add an AEM (physical or virtual) to each network
to convert them to Ethernet.
The Free Apogee P2 firmware Upgrade policy is here:

https://iknow.ww004.siemens.net/infolink/automation/product/DesigoCC/IB-156R3.pdf

The chart below shows what versions of firmware you need, for different protocols.

The following devices are not officially supported, but should show up as TEC type devices. But Desigo CC will
not know that it is a TCU or UC, etc. – and it's functionality through Desigo CC may be limited. You should be
able to see the points.

 UC
 TCU
 MPU
 DPU

The following are not supported and will not work.

 P2 RS-485 w/ TI II
 P2 Dial Up
 ALS3 Fire
 Staefa MS2000

Below is a link to the integration drivers list. You can check this to see if the driver you need is listed and
compatible with the firmware required for Desigo CC.

https://intranet.for.siemens.com/wll/0094/en/services/Documents/Integration%20Drivers.xls

Changing Point Names

On some migration projects, point names should be changed prior to migrating to Desigo CC. In Desigo CC,
things like object models and functions rely on consistent point naming.

Apogee Insight to Desigo CC Migration –
For Operations and Sales

Document Version 1.1 Dated March 03, 2018

Typical reasons for re-naming points:

- Original 6 character point names
- Modified 6-12 character point names
- No existing standard
- Existing standard was not always followed
- Multiple Insights are being combined into one Desigo CC

There is a program that will help with re-naming points. It's been around for a while as an unofficial program,
but it is now being released formally and has many enhancements.

You run it on Insight 3.15 or CT 3.15. If you have an older Insight job, you can bring it into CT to update it and
then run the utility against that database.

The size of the existing database determines how fast the tool will take to run.

It does one point at a time, and for each, it has to open all of the databases, graphics PPCL programs, etc. to
search for the point that you are trying to change. Then it performs entire process again for the next point in
your list. If you have a lot of graphics and PPCL programs and schedules, then it takes longer than a smaller
number of the same items.

Most people run it on one panel at a time. You don’t have to watch it run, you can look at the log file when it's
done.

BUT it doesn’t take breaks, and it doesn’t make mistakes - and it is much faster than a human.

The one thing that it doesn’t do is change point name in PPCL where you used define statements. That will
have to be done manually. It can only re-name fully qualified point names in PPCL.

It will Rename and update the following:

 The point name
 Optional renaming of user point name
 BACnet Object name in the database.
 Rename the fully qualified points in PPCL programs (full name, not define statements)
 Points in trend definitions
 Mode and set points in enhanced alarm definitions
 Points in zone definitions
 Points in standard and EGO graphic definitions
 Point names in reports
 TECs (BACnet and P1)
 FLN devices – this includes the (unbundled) sub-points (Device: Point)
 Points in the report point section
 Points in the dynamic plot point section
 BACnet points in the trend definitions
 Zone definition

All of the changes made by this utility are logged in the System Activity log

SibX Export tool – important!!!

The features in the SibX export tool have been greatly enhanced to help you determine requirements for your
migration. We have included some detailed instructions to help you understand the results and how to use the
tools.
You must have the latest Service Release loaded on Apogee Insight or Commissioning Tool before you run
this. There was a couple of SRs that had some bugs that either did not run correctly or counted your TECs in
the billions.
At least one of the functions of this utility requires MS Excel loaded on the same computer that you run it on.
Many customer computers do NOT have MS Excel installed. So, it might be best to back up the Insight
database, and bring it into 3.15 commissioning tool (with the latest SR).

Run the SibX tool

Run it from the Insight directory (in Insight – see screenshot below). From Commissioning Tool, run it from the
drop down menu.

Once it starts – choose File and you are given these options:

Export Database will allow you to export your database from Insight, to be imported into Desigo CC.
Generate Licensing Document will create the PDF file that figures out how many point licenses you need,
and some options that you need.
Populate Desigo CC System Dimensioning Guide - will start excel, and fill in the dimensioning guide with as
much data as it can. More information can be found on the following pages.
Usage Counts will give you a list of all of the graphics, reports, and trend views that have been viewed, and
the count of how many times. IT MUST BE INSTALLED AND RUN ON THE CUSTOMERS INSIGHT
SERVER. It will not work on Commissioning Tool.

Generate Licensing Document

This is used to determine what you need for Desigo CC licensing when you migrate an Apogee Insight job.
When you run it, it generates two PDF files. One is for your use and one is encrypted. You will send the
encrypted file to Customer Service (sitekeys) to prove how many clients and points the site is eligible to buy
migration licenses for. Without this file, Customer Service will not let you buy Migration Licenses, and the site
has to buy more expensive new licenses."

At the top of the document is the “Desigo CC License Equivalents”. The number that you are most interested in
is the “Desigo CC BA Point Licenses”. This is how many point licenses do you need to purchase to migrate
your Insight job. It does all of the math for you, but also shows you how it got there.
Client licenses refers to how many Insight clients you have installed, to help you figure out how many Desigo
CC client licenses you need to buy. NOTE: If you run this report from Commissioning Tool, the number of
clients will not be correct (likely zero). Insight projects brought into Commissioning tool do not bring the number
of clients, or Reno information with it. So you will have to supply the LServeRC file along with the PDF to
Customer Service.

Other things to look for:
Look for P2 networks (one P2 license is needed per Desigo CC project)
Look for P2 485 (AEM is needed to convert it to Ethernet)
Example printout below:

Populate Desigo CC System Dimensioning Guide

Also known as the “database sizing utility”
NOTE – For this to work correctly, MS excel has to be loaded on the computer that you are running this
program.
Choose Populate Desigo CC System Dimensioning Guide from the menu – it will likely give you window
that requires you to enable macros in order for it to run.

Then it will churn some data onscreen and fill in this page, in excel.

Once it is done, be sure to change to the Product Data tab, which will look something like this (below):
If you see a dash ( - ) in a cell, that means that there was no data in Insight for the tool to import for that cell.
Most likely that is just fine. For example a dash in the cell for “3rd party devices on an Apogee BACnet panel
FLN” means that there weren’t any in the Insight database.
A blank cell means that it has to be filled in manually or possibly left blank if it doesn’t apply. Be sure to read
the comment for a blank cell. That will tell you what the assumption will be if nothing is filed in. So instead of
leaving it blank, you may need to change it to zero.
That will help you determine how many “objects” the system has and what kind of computer it should be
installed on (Category of computer).

Usage Counters

THIS MUST BE INSTALLED AND RUN ON THE CUSTOMERS INSIGHT SERVER.
The Usage Counters report helps you determine what the customer uses on the system.
You get a choice of what it includes in the report – Graphics, Reports, and Trend Views. You can choose one
or all. Below is an example of a full report on a clean install, after I ran a few reports and pulled up a few
graphics.
Example of how this is used: When you start to do the actual migration, you can refer to this report to see what
graphics they use most often, and then compare to the graphics list to see what they don’t use at all. Then you
can decide which ones to redraw in the “stunning” 3D Desigo CC graphics, or which ones you just migrate (no
real change) to the system.
You also have a choice to reset the counters
But it doesn’t start counting until you install it!

The example below was run right after the SR installation and after calling up a few graphics.

Graphics Migration Considerations

Graphics migration tends to be a large percentage of the cost of an Apogee Insight to Desigo CC migration. It
is important to plan this out carefully.

Apogee Insight to Desigo CC Migration –

Document Version 1.1 Dated March 03, 2018

Desigo CC offers you the ability to import you Apogee Insight graphics into Desigo CC. They end up looking
almost the same as they did in Apogee Insight. A customer who is paying for the migration to Desigo CC will
want to see improvement in their system and graphics are their main interface with the software.

You other option is to redraw the graphics in Desigo CC, using new symbols and libraries to give the system a
fresh look. This takes more labor, but may be important to customer satisfaction.

It is important to determine how many graphics will be imported and how many will be redrawn.

Typically, a customer has dozens of graphics but only regularly uses a handful. There can be many years of
accumulated, unused graphics (left over from commissioning, etc.) Help the customer “remove the clutter” and

enhance their user experience.

As mentioned in another section, there is a “counter” in the latest service pack for Apogee Insight 3.14 and
3.15 that will give you a list of all of the graphics a customer opens, and how many times they opened them.
This tool only starts counting once it's installed (it's not retroactive) so it's important to install it right away.

You can then use the results of this counter to help determine the most import and most often used graphics
by the customer. Instead of redrawing every single graphic, you may find that they only know about or use a
fraction of them. If you are planning to convert your old Insight graphics, consider upgrading at least a couple
of the highest use graphics to show our capabilities with Desigo CC.

Even graphics that you import will likely need some small adjustments to work correctly in Desigo CC.

Every zone has AGDs (Area Graphics Designers). This group understands the efforts and labor required to
migrate and should be involved in the estimating process and implementation. They also have a connection
with a group of Graphics Designers in Asia that can do some of the work at a much lower labor rate.

One more thing to consider is additional graphics to add during migration. You should talk to the customers (at

different levels) and see what they would like to have added. Dashboards are one example. You could create
an energy dashboard graphic that is automatically emailed as a PDF to the customer’s energy engineer each
day. Enhance the system as you upgrade it.

OLD – Migrated NEW Redrawn

Document Version 1.1 Dated March 03, 2018

Report Migration Considerations

Reports will have to be recreated in Desigo CC, they cannot be migrated from Apogee Insight. There are many
report templates in Desigo CC and more are being added with each revision. Even with these templates
reports will have to be recreated.

An important consideration is the types of existing reports that they have. If they have 20 reports that are all
the same, with the exception of the “points” that are in them, then you might be able to replace those with one
single report and teach them how to drag and drop to run the report with the points that they need. These
report templates can then be associated as “related items” to make it easier for them to run those reports.
As mentioned in another section, there is a “counter” in the latest service pack for Apogee Insight 3.14 and
3.15 that will give you a list of all of the reports a customer runs, and how many times they ran them This tool
only starts counting once it's installed (it's not retroactive) so it's important to install it right away..

Migrating Trend Data

Existing trend data in Apogee Insight will not migrate to Desigo CC.

Desigo CC uses Microsoft SQL to store historical trend data. Historical trend data stored on the Insight server
cannot be migrated.

There will be some active trend information for Apogee P2 and Apogee BACnet panels that resides in the
panels. That information is imported into Desigo CC when the database is imported.

Trend views will have to be recreated.
As mentioned in another section, there is a “counter” in the latest service pack for Apogee Insight 3.14 and
3.15 that will give you a list of all of the trend view a customer runs, and how many times they ran them.

Remote notification

At this time, there is no way to automatically migrate Remote Notification settings straight from Apogee Insight
into Desigo CC.

All ReNo settings must be manually recreated.

Make sure to anticipate labor for ReNo. All the recipients must be in the Desigo CC Address Book (they do not
need to be system users, though), you have to create scopes for the ReNo points, recreate all the ReNo
settings, and then test and fix as needed.

Do not ignore the ReNo labor!

This is also your chance to modify ReNo messages to match the new features in Reno and enhance the
system for the customer.

Additional Migration Activities and considerations –

The following is a list of potential labor activities on your project. The times reflected are “ballpark” numbers
and could be completely different depending on the size and complexity of your project. The important thing is
to consider them when reviewing a project. This list does not claim to be complete, as there are many variables
on jobsites.

 Field Panels that need a Firmware Flash to the Supported Revisions. This will be dependent on the
number of panels that need to be flashed and their accessibility (physical, and hour of the day they can
be flashed)

 Export/Import database to Desigo CC (1-2 hours)
 Customize user accounts (1-16 hours)
 Create Custom Reports (.5-1.5 per report)
 Customize Trend Views (0.5 hours per customized trend)
 Customize Remote Notification (8-16 hours)
 Customize User Defined Views (4-16 hours)
 Point Naming Conversion (8-40 hours)
 Customer Training (8-16 hours)
 Datamate Advanced Installation (8 hours)
 Consider Customer IT Consultation Time (41-8 hours)

Training

Educational Services has created many manuals for the branch to use to perform customer training. These
manuals are free. They include an instructor’s manual, and a student manual. They look professional and

reduce your preparation time.

There are a few many on different Desigo CC versions, for new users and different revisions and existing users
that upgrade to the latest version. There are also other topics such as Field Panels, TECs, etc. These are
highly recommended

Branch delivered training modules can be found at:
