FIDA AT MONTROSE
FIDA, Football for people with an Intellectual
Disability Australia, is currently being offered at
Montrose Football Club with extremely pleasing
results.
People over the age of 12 who have an intellectual
disability are invited to join Montrose coaches, players
and experienced volunteers to learn football and fitness
skills every second Sunday at a cost of just $5.
Earlier this season, Montrose coach and former AFL
player Troy Simmonds lent a hand with the clinic
(pictured), and described the experience as a lot of fun.
There is a clinic on Sunday, July 2, with another three
scheduled before the end of the season.
The FIDA football clinics began within the Shire of
Yarra Ranges at Montrose in 2004. The clinics offer
an opportunity for individuals to participate in football
and increase social interaction, motor skills, personal
development and confidence.
The clinics include skill development activities
including drills, games and practice matches similar
to Auskick clinics. Parents and carers are more than
welcome, with many describing the experience as
enriching and immeasurable.
Lunch is provided in the club’s new clubroom facilities
for all participants.
