1-800-717-7694 • 519-882-1221 2023 VPP SEASON 9 MARK PAYNE Music Director Ahhhhh, can’t you just smell the salty sea air?! It’s time for the “Kitchen Party”, b’ys, and Mark couldn’t be more thrilled. Celebrating the fantastic music with incredible friends, from the comfort of his very own kitchen, AND with all the amazing patrons of the VPP. Life is some good, wha’? Of all the work Mark has done over the years…like solo appearances with orchestra, playing the likes of Rachmaninoff and Beethoven; conducting, singing and coaching opera with the likes of the Calgary Opera, Pacific Opera Victoria and The San Francisco Opera; coaching voice and opera and teaching at Western University; conducting, writing and arranging for the marvellous Amabile Choirs of London, Canada; recording both solo CDs and others with incredible performers like David Rogers, Michael Vanhevel, Ted Baerg and Irena Welhasch; and don’t forget a pandemic filled stint as a videographer for the Thames Valley Board of Education, filming onsite and offsite graduations, musicals, and other crazy projects. But, of all the work mentioned, nothing comes close to the over ten years of shows, music, and memories he has enjoyed here at the VPP. Dozens of productions, original musicals, hundreds of a cappella arrangements (that only the incredible all star casts of the VPP could possibly pull off, heh, heh). This truly is a magical place, and Mark is proud to be an ongoing part of the VPP family (which includes all of the incredible patrons - you make this family what it is!). Having previously performed in a variety of productions including Rocky Mountain High, Dynamic Duos, Murder for Two, You’ve Got a Friend, Mark Payne’s East Coast Kitchen Party, Folks Like Us, Rockabilly Swing Time, and countless Starbright Christmases, Baerg is a seasoned actor who brings a wealth of talent and experience to the stage. With a rich freelancing history, he’s performed with top institutions like the Canadian Opera Company, Toronto Symphony, K-W Symphony, and more. He’s played for Evergreen Gamelan, accompanied Toronto Dance Theatre, and earned a Dora award nomination for composition. As musical director, he wowed audiences with The Ballad of Stompin’ Tom across Blyth, Drayton, and Charlottetown. Romano’s drum set playing powered the national tour of Wicked, spanning 2600+ North American shows. Broadway’s Come From Away welcomed him as a percussionist for the run as well as in Gander this year. Now in Stratford, he collaborates with artists like The Bookends and Loreena McKennitt, while crafting music for short films. Thrilled to be here! JESSE GRANDMONT Jesse started playing the violin at the age of three and has been fiddling around ever since. Brought up as a student of the Suzuki violin method, Jesse quickly developed a love for playing all genres of music from classical to country and jazz to rock. His performances have taken him across Canada and internationally, including spending 7 months in the United Arab Emirates as a featured performer for Expo 2020 Dubai. Jesse also works as a performer, arranger, producer and musical director in the world of musical theatre. He has worked at top Canadian theatre companies including Drayton Entertainment, The Grand Theatre, Rainbow Stage, The Imperial Theatre, Terra Bruce Productions, The Stratford Festival AND Jesse has proudly been a recurring cast member for 10 seasons here at the VPP! Since picking up the violin at the age of three, Leah has spent years performing both as a fiddler and as a classical violinist. Past theatre credits include: Lauren in Where the Heart Is, Jesse’s Country Jubilee, When Irish Eyes Are Smiling, Starbright Christmas, The VPP Christmas Jamboree, Scotland Sings (VPP); Fiddler on the Loose, Good Ol’ Country Gospel (Drayton Entertainment); Vigilante (The Grand Theatre). She also spent several summers touring with the National Youth Orchestra of Canada, as well as recording and performing with pop artists Stacey Kay, Lindsay El, and Priyanka. ERIK LARSON Erik is thrilled to be back at the VPP working with David, Mark, and the whole gang once again! VPP highlights include Rocky Mountain High, Hogan’s Hoedown, and 2019’s Fiddler on the Loose with Drayton Entertainment. Erik has played bass for a number of theatre companies in the GTA including Hart House Theatre, Young People’s Theatre, Starvox Entertainment, Sheridan College, and the Stratford Festival. In 2019 he became a sub for Mirvish Productions’ smash hit show Come From Away. As a jazz player, you can see Erik perform as a member of trumpeter Mike Herriott’s Off The Road Big Band. MINNIE PAYNE LARD TUNDERIN B’YS! Minnie is some excited to be able to make it back for her brudder’s Kitchen Party. Don’t get her started on how excited she is or she‘ll go on and on and on and on and on and on! Since the first Kitchen Party, Minnie has been enjoying her downtime and has taken to travelling the world. She has visited places like the Taj Mahal, the White House, she’s climbed the summit of Mount Everest, and visited the Big Nickel in Sudbury. Past theatre credits include Minnie in East Coast Kitchen Party, Marilla in Fiddler on the Loose, Sophie in Mamma Mia! and Grizabella in Cats. But her favourite place is being back in Petrolia at the VPP! Long may your big jib draw!

Arlen graduated with distinction from the Broadcasting: Television and Independent Production program at Conestoga College, with the hopes of getting into the film and television industry. Instead, he found his way back to a childhood love: theatre. In the past he worked as a house technician and assistant stage manager with Drayton Entertainment. He is excited to continue his journey here at the VPP. LAURA POLAND Technical Crew Laura is excited to be back with the VPP for the 2023 season. She is often backstage working as an ASM and is also a barista and attends highschool here in Petrolia. Her favourite hobbies include shopping and seeing her friends. She also enjoys working with the amazing casts and crew here at the VPP. Enjoy the show. PAT MORRISON Sound Designer In the middle of his sixth decade, struggling to embrace his mortality, Pat finds comfort in feeding his addictions which include playing squash, chasing Doritos with port, serving as the minister at Grace United Church in Sarnia, playing pranks on Mark Payne, operating a production company, and designing sound for shows at the Victoria Playhouse. If he lives to retirement, Pat wants to build guitars with his hands. CHELSEA VANOVERBEKE Head of Lighting/Sound Operator Chelsea Vanoverbeke is excited to be back at the Victoria Playhouse. She is a graduate of the University of Waterloo’s Theatre and Performance and History programs. She is also an alumnus of the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity Lighting Technician Practicum Program. Productions Credits Include: Fiddler on the Loose (Drayton Festival Theatre), Welcome to the Tree Museum (University of Waterloo), Turn of the Screw (Western University), Le nozze di Figaro (Western University), Entangled (Impact Festival 2017), Eurydice (University of Waterloo).
