EXPO MHIZHA PRIMARY SCHOOL

HOLDS INAUGURAL SCIENCE
AND AGRICULTURE EXPO!
Science and technology is the
cornerstone of modern world and the
Ministry of Primary and Secondary
education's New Curriculum puts
emphasis on the STEM subjects. It is in
line with this that Mhizha Primary
school held its inaugural Science and
Agriculture Expo, with the Grade 7
pupils exhibiting various experiments in
the field of science and agriculture.
Exhibitions ranged from solar
technology, water filtration, human
digestive system to vegetable gardening
and livestock rearing.

The occasion was graced by Highglen
District Schools Inspector, Mr. J Kabasa

as guest of honour, parents of Grade 7 Science in pictures
pupils, heads/deputy heads of
neighbouring schools and members of
the SDC.
Welcoming guests at the Expo, the
Headmaster Mr. Patrick Chitambo paid
tribute to the Grade 7 teachers (Mrs.
Chanaiwa, Mr. Mutsavi, Ms Sanya and
Mrs Thelingwani) who helped to set up
the exhibitions and to the pupils who
showed what they had learnt.
"It is quite inspiring.....to be availed an
opportunity to meet learners and see
their exhibits and class work they are
doing", said Mr. Chitambo, He further
went on "...the curiosity level to learn
and dissect any knowledge are
commendable. It is the responsibility of
today's teacher to maintain this
enthusiasm. It is in these that talents are
discovered, passions lit, future
scientists, engineers, inventors and
entrepreneurs are born". The Headmaster said that it was
unacceptable for Mhizha to be an
averagely ranked school in the district
where the pass rate hovers around 85%
year in year out. He implored the
teachers, parents, the SDC and corporate
world to help the pupils with their
dreams.

Speaking at the same occasion, The DSI
Mr. J. Kabasa said that he was delighted
with this laudable initiative that the
school authorities had taken which
provides an ideal opportunity for
learners to showcase their know how
and experiences in the fields of Science
and Agriculture.

were then led to see the exhibitions and
experiments in the well decorated
model classroom where charts covering
all subjects lined the walls. Pupils
explained what they were displaying
and the DSI asked questions to verify
that what the pupils exhibited was also
ingrained into their young brains. Some
pupils were outstanding showing a
good grasp of the subject matters but a
few seemed to struggle. From the
classroom, next port of call was the
garden where various vegetables are
being grown, with the pupils explaining
the types and conditions under which
they grow.
Then some entertainment came with the
traditional dancers at the model village
where guests were shown the different
buildings at a typical village set up, like

"Through this Expo, I am proud to say
Mhizha has raised our District flag high
and achieved our goal of creating
opportunities for learners to discover the
joy of Science through play" said the
DSI who also invited other schools
within the District to emulate Mhizha in
promoting Science and Agriculture.

The School Development Committee
Chairperson Mr. Musaidzi thanked the
school administration for the sterling
work they are doing to not only improve
the school’s image but also for their
commitment to better the school’s pass
rate which he said has not been among
the best. “ While my committee has a
good relationship with the school
authorities, we promise to go a step
further in supporting any and all projects
and activities that they may embark on”
said Mr. Musaidzi.
The school also invited the Public
Relations department of Machipisa
Police station where Sgt. Chikwera
advised the students to stay away from
drugs and early sexual activity. She also
implored parents to monitor their
children’s movements, who their friends
are and to also get to know the parents
of those friends so that together they can
stem any wayward behaviour in the bud.

The successful day ended with light
snacks for the invited guests.

THE GUEST OF HONOR’S SPEECH
t gives me great pleasure to address
you on the occassion of the
Ilaunching a Science and Agriculture
Exhibition set up by the school
authorities and Grade 7 learners at
Mhizha.
It is indeed through such a platform that
learners can bring forward the right kind
of ideas and innovations that will
provide a booster to our learners at this
crucial moment where they are preparing
to sit for their final exams in September.
I believe the displays we shall see here
today, will testify to the impressive
spectrum of skills and creativity in our
young people.
Through this Expo, I am proud to say
that Mhizha has raised our District flag
high and achieved our goal of creating
opportunities for learners to discover the
joy of Science through play. Well done
ladies and gentlemen.
I welcome many more schools in our
District to also join in promoting Science
and Agriculture in High Glen District.
Finally, I wish to thank the school
authorities for inviting me to come and
officiate at such a well-organized
function. With these few words, it is my
pleasure to declare the Mhizha 2019
Grade 7 Science and Agriculture Expo
opened.
I thank you!

High Glen District

THE SDC CHAIRMAN’S SPEECH
It is my great pleasure to be part of this
Science and Agriculture Expo, indeed a
first for this school, probably in the rest
of this Highglen District.
I would like to thank firstly the
Headmaster, Mr. Chitambo, who has
shown that what is being done in the
Group ‘A’ schools can indeed be
duplicated in our high density schools
and may surely be duplicated in other
areas. Him and his able team have given
us a challenge to pull up our socks to
support not just them in projects like
these but also to work hard with our
children so that they have a hands on
understanding of what they are being
taught at school.
The school’s image has vastly improved
with the traditional village and the
livestock projects. We surely are
confident that this will improve the pass
rate of our school which had been very
average previously.
Once again I want to take this
opportunity to thank the Grade 7s and
their teachers, not forgetting the Deputy
Head, Ms. Chizanga for setting up such
a splendid display.
May God richly bless you in everything
you are doing and are going to do.

I thank you

S. J. Musaidzi (Jnr)
