WHAT IS CAMPOREE?
A Camporee is many things; camping fun for Scouts, the stomping of hundreds of feet on the way to
the evening campfire, and the smell of burning stew. It’s the ripple of wind-blown flags in the morning sun. It’s
catching the idea of teamwork in the Patrol method. It’s working together for a common goal and learning how
rewarding that can be. It is an opportunity for Webelos and Arrow of Light Patrols to learn about Scouting and for
Scouts to help and teach their younger counterparts. Hopefully, friendships will grow out of this adventure, and
the Webelos and Arrow of Light Scouts will feel more comfortable in their transition to Scouts BSA.
Camporee is an opportunity for Scouts to get together and compete against one another in friendly
competition. The program consists of camping and Scouting skills, games and a campfire.
Each unit camps on an individual basis and your unit will operate independently from the other units. Your
unit will need to bring your own stoves, food, tents, etc. If you need any equipment or help, all you need to do is
ask. This is Scouting after all!
Most of all, Camporee is fun for the Scouts.
BE PREPARED! SOME DAY YOU MAY SAVE THE WORLD!
For this year, Reyes Adobe District is preparing a Heroic Camporee! We’ve planned a program full of all the High
Adventure, Daring Deeds and Scouting Skills you’ve come to expect from our Camporee and hopefully a few
new challenging surprises!
The original scouting hero, and our own Professor X himself, Lord Baden-Powell, once said “A Scout is never
taken by surprise; he knows exactly what to do when anything unexpected happens.” In that spirit, we hope that
you will Be Prepared by practicing your Scout skills in anticipation of this year’s SUPERHERO Camporee!
We’ll be watching for you to get into the spirit of the theme with your Patrol names, Gateway designs and Campfire
Skits! We’re asking all the Event sponsors to theme the competition with props and costumes according to their
hero and specific event! We’re looking forward to seeing your creativity on display! And remember, according to
Batman “A hero can be anyone”.
NEW FOR THIS YEAR
• Afternoon Events to Challenge you! • Captain BBQ for Saturday Lunch!
• Human Foosball course! • And again: A Camporee T-shirt for Every
• Dutch-Oven Cook Off! Participant!
RULES UPDATES
Judging and Awards on Events and Spirit will be by Den/Patrol/Crew only.
The only overall Unit awards will solely be for Campsite and Entrance Gateway.
Crews will participate as OMEGA units.

A FEW NOTES ABOUT CAMPOREE
We are fortunate to again have Valley Trails Ranch for our Camporee site. The camping site is open field camping—
so whatever you need, you must bring. This includes (but is not limited to) water, trash bags, lanterns, tables,
chairs, all cooking equipment, including stoves, personal gear, etc. This is a great way to learn to supply what your
unit needs and uses. This is also a great opportunity to practice “Leave No Trace.”
A few notes about camping at Valley Trails:
• CAR POOL, CAR POOL, and CAR POOL to cut down on unnecessary traffic. Like always, each
unit will camp in its own campsite, but cars will park in the designated parking lot.
• SPEED LIMIT! Valley Trails and their neighbors enforce a strict 10 MPH speed limit. Please be courteous
and keep your speed down coming and going on the road to camp.
• TROOP TRAILERS may be parked in your campsite, but the towing vehicles must be parked in the
lot. Keep in mind, camp size is determined by unit registration and additional space will not be allocated for
trailers in camp sites.
• PACK IT IN, PACK IT OUT. You will all be responsible for removing your own trash. We hope to
have dumpsters on site again, but regardless, you need to Leave no Trace. We are guests at Valley Trails Ranch
and we need to respect the grounds by keeping our site clean and tidy.
• KYBOS will be on site for Scout and Adult use. Permanent flush toilets will be available for Adults and
Staff.
• NO OUTSIDE DELIVERY VEHICLES will be accepted into the camp. Please plan for Friday night
dinner to either be pre-ordered Habit meals or otherwise carried in by Scouts/Troops/Packs.
• CAMPOREE BOUNDARIES: Our Camporee has specific physical boundaries. It is imperative that
these boundaries be observed. Scouts do not have the run of the Ranch. We are only permitted to use specific
portions of the Ranch.
• NATIVE ANIMALS: It is normal for rattlesnakes to be in this area so be careful. Do not pick up or bother
any of the wildlife in the area.
Roundtable is a good place to ask anything about Camporee. Reyes Adobe holds it Roundtable on the 2nd
Wednesday of every month at the Sherman Oaks Center for Enriched Studies (SOCES) at 18605 Erwin Street |
Tarzana, CA 91335, starting at 7:00pm in the Multi Purpose Room
Otherwise contact any staff member, especially this year’s chairpeople:
Steve Vincent - [email protected] - (818) 730-8895
Gerald Jenne - [email protected] - (818) 438-2250
Practice, Practice, Practice - The higher scoring Patrols are those that practiced their Scout skills prior to
Camporee. Come to a Roundtable before Camporee to learn more about the events.
Camporee is a Group Effort - We need your help to make this a great event for all the Scouts. We’re asking each
unit to run at least one competition event. See page 10 for details. If you have any questions please contact our
Event Chairpeople: Anett & Hrair Assilian - [email protected] - 818-419-9341
Photos - After uniform inspections on Saturday, April 25th, we will have photographers available to take a group
photo of your unit. Throughout the day they will also be taking photos of the Camporee events and possibly you!
Pictures will be posted to a photo sharing website and be available for downloads.
See you at Camporee!

GENERAL RULES AND NOTICES
CHECK-IN: Check in will start on Friday afternoon at 5:00 pm. PLEASE do not arrive prior to this time.
CHECK-OUT: Check out will follow after the awards ceremony on Sunday morning. That is usually around
10:30am. For safety of the Scouts, please no cars in camp areas prior to this time.
TROOP LEADERSHIP: The Senior Patrol Leader is in charge of and responsible for the conduct of the Scouts
in the Troop at all times during Camporee. The Scoutmaster and his/her designated assistants will be on the site
at all times. Two adult leaders must camp in the Troop area at all times.
PACK LEADERSHIP: Webelos and Arrow of Light Patrols attending Camporee must follow the National
policy requiring a one responsible adult to four youth ratio. Packs, Troops or Crews that want to camp next to a
specific Unit must so specify at the time of registration in order to have space reserved adjacent to the Unit’s area.
Look on the Camporee registration form for this listing. Courtesy contact with that Unit should be made prior to
Camporee. Troops, Packs or Crews must turn in separate registration forms even if they are camping next to each
other.
SCOUT BEHAVIOR: Profanity is not in the Scouting tradition and will not be tolerated. The throwing of any
objects will not be tolerated. Kybos will be used by the youth and not for garbage dumping, horseplay or dish
washing.
YPT: BSA and counsel guidelines require that ALL registered adult leaders be current with Youth Protection. It
is the unit leaders responsibility to make sure ALL attending adult unit leaders are Current with YPT and Trained
for their position. This Camporee committee also highly recommends that all attending adults take the time to get
YPT certified. Information on YPT can be found on the BSA website.
scouting.org/training/youth-protection/
UNIFORM: Your Class A or Field uniform should be worn at all assemblies. It is also suggested you wear your
Field Uniform driving too and from Camporee.
CAMP AREA: Boundaries will be outlined on the Camporee map. This is private property, so we need to stay
in the camping area. Anyone found outside the designated Camporee area will be sent home. No hikes or hill
climbing. NO EXCEPTIONS!!
CAMPSITE ASSIGNMENTS: Your campsite will be assigned to your unit at the check-in desk. These are
assigned based on the number of participants registered as of April 12, 2020.
CAMPSITE ACCESS DURING EVENTS: While the events are in progress, no one is allowed into your
campsite area except adults.
FUELS AND STOVES: All cooking will be done on stoves, no fire pits or rings. Use of propane is strongly
suggested. However, if your unit uses white gas, please follow the BSA policy regarding liquid fuels. NO
GROUND FIRES ALLOWED.
TRASH: Pack it in, Pack it out! Each unit is to carry out its own trash at the close of Camporee. Your participation
package will be issued upon the completion of the clean-up inspection. Remember, Scouts always leave an area
cleaner than the way they find it.
EQUIPMENT: BE PREPARED! Each attending unit is responsible for bringing their Troop and Patrol
equipment, including cook boxes, trash bags, and necessary Troop and Patrol equipment.
-5-
Reyes Adobe District 2020 Camporee
EVENT EQUIPMENT: The Patrols are expected to provide necessary supplies for each event unless specified
in the events description. Each Scout needs to have their Boy Scout Handbook with them Always have your ten
essentials as listed in the Scout handbook:
1. Pocket Knife 6. Flashlight (or Headlamp)
2. First Aid Kid 7. Trail Food
3. Extra Clothing 8. Matches (or Fire-starter)
4. Rain Gear 9. Sun Protection
5. Water 10. Map and Compass
ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT: In keeping with the Scout experience and spirit we encourage units to have their
Scouts leave electronic devices safely stowed throughout Camporee.
LOST AND FOUND: The Camporee Lost and Found area will be located at the Scoring office. Please make sure
to keep track of all your equipment and clothing.
FIRST AID: There will be a First Aid station set up near the Scoring Office and Staff Area. Should you require
first aid above and beyond what your personal kit can handle, please go there. The First Aid Staff will have your
medical forms safely stored for the duration of the Camporee. If you do not submit an official Scout Medical form
parts A&B you will not be allowed to stay at Camporee.
ALCOHOL, TOBACCO, AND DRUGS: As outlined in the Scouter Code of Conduct, Scouting activities are
not a place to possess, distribute, transport, consume, or use any of the following items prohibited by law or in
violation of any Scouting rules, regulations, and policies: alcoholic beverages or controlled substances, including
marijuana.
An important way adult leaders can model healthy living is by following the policies on alcohol, tobacco, and
drugs. Leaders should support the attitude that they, as well as youths, are better off without tobacco in any
form and may not allow the use of tobacco products at any BSA activity involving youth participants. This
includes the use of electronic cigarettes, personal vaporizers, or electronic nicotine delivery systems that simulate
tobacco smoking. All Scouting functions, meetings, and activities should be conducted on a smoke-free basis,
with smoking areas located away from all participants.

8th Roundtable. Roundtable will be held at 7pm and is located at SOCES. Exact
address is 18605 Erwin St, Tarzana, CA 91335. A second “make up audition” that’s

Although not mandatory it is much appreciated.
If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, feel free to contact the Sipo Chapter Advisor Patrick Lewis at
[email protected].

Arrow members in your Troop should wear their OA sashes for the Call-Out. Please
follow the directions of the OA leadership so this ceremony will go smoothly.
Upon the completion of the callout, the OA candidates will be escorted away for a
few brief minutes for brief conversation and the exchange of information. All remaining scouts and scouters will
remain at the campfire for a flag retirement.
If there are OA members within your Troop that would like to participate, or you have any questions or concerns
about these procedures before Camporee 2020, please email the Sipo Chapter Advisor, Patrick Lewis at

EVENT PARTICIPATION
Patrols will compete in the events that have been designed for their Patrol skill level. The skill level is
determined by the rank of the Scouts in the Patrol. Please refer to the Patrol Classification section of the packet
for the classification of your particular Patrol. (See page 13-14 for details.)
ALPHAS (Webelos and Arrow of Light) Compete in events 1-8
BETAS Compete in events 9-16
GAMMAS Compete in events 17-24
OMEGAS Compete in events 25-32
Leadership is a part of the scoring scheme as well as overall participation and Patrol spirit. Encourage your
Patrol leaders to go over all the skills involved in the events with their Patrol before the Camporee. The better your
Patrols know their skills, the better they will do in the events competition.
RUN AN EVENT AT CAMPOREE
The Camporee staff is asking all units to sponsor and run at least one event at Camporee. We will give your
unit all the details of what is expected. We will look to you for full cooperation in preparing for and providing a
fun and challenging event for our Scouts that matches the Superheroes theme of the event. We will do everything
possible to help the sponsoring unit with any problems that may arise.
All sponsors are asked to be able to run two identical stations simultaneously. This gives the Scouts time
to complete all their events without the usual “long line, bog down.”
To help things run smoothly, there will be several opportunities to discuss how to run the events and the
scoring procedures.
• MARCH 11 - Reyes Adobe Roundtable. 7:00pm, at the Sherman Oaks Center for Enriched Studies (SOCES)
18605 Erwin St, Tarzana, CA 91335
• APRIL 11 - Time and Place TBD.
• APRIL 24 - 9:30 pm in the Staff Area/Camp Dining Hall at Camporee.
•
If you have never run an event or have questions it is extremely important to attend one of these meetings.
Don’t be afraid to volunteer even if you’ve never done this before.
This is an opportunity to make use of those parents that just want to come and “hang out.”
Let them know they are needed. Please pitch in and help.
REGISTERING TO RUN AN EVENT
SignUpGenius worked so well last year, we thought we would try it again. You can sign up for sponsoring
an event at Roundtable or Online using this link: bit.ly/30UgsH8.
Please designate one leader from your unit to be the contact person on event sign-ups.
You can also email one of the Camporee Chairman and we’ll send you a link.

CHECK-IN PROCEDURES
With the addition of the BSA Medical form requirement this year, there are a number of forms that will be turned
in at Check in. To make the form collection more efficient and make our job a little easier at Cracker Barrel, please
follow the following procedures at Check In on Friday.:
Please have one leader in charge of your Unit’s registration and present their completed forms in 3 separate groups
with the Unit Number clearly marked:
1.) Packet with Unit’s Shooting/Climbing permission forms; One for Each Scout.
2.) Packet with Unit’s Valley Trails Forms; One for each Youth & Adult.
3.) Packet with Unit’s BSA Medical Form; One for each Youth & Adult.
Please, DO NOT staple them together by each participant! You will be asked to separate them by form category
before the Check-In staff accepts them.
DRIVERS INFORMATION SHEET
In addition, we’ve added the Drivers Information Sheet to the last page of this packet. Every year, the thing
that slows down the check-in line the most is having every driver fill out the dashboard sheet if they are staying
overnight. You can do a lot to cut down on that back up by making copies of those pages and passing them out to
every driver who is staying in camp overight.
CHECK-OUT PROCEDURES
When your unit is ready to depart, the Senior Patrol Leader or Den Leader should inspect their campsite for
cleanliness. Remember that all trash is to be packed out. Remember to LEAVE NO TRACE.
Campsites should always be left better than they were found.
When the Senior Patrol Leader or Den Leader is satisfied that the campsite is clean, a Campsite Inspector will
clear them for departure and issue them a signed evaluation sheet.
The Senior Patrol Leader and an Adult leader will need to take the completed evaluation sheet AND THE
CAMPSITE UNIT SIGN to the Staff headquarters. There they will obtain their packet of score sheets, Camporee
patches and pickup their Medical forms.
Assistance in surveying and cleaning common areas is expected and very much appreciated.
- - - FOR SAFETY REASONS, PLEASE RESPECT - - -
NO VEHICLES IN THE CAMPSITE AREA PRIOR TO THE CLOSE
OF THE AWARDS CEREMONY ON SUNDAY.
