Structures

Affirmative Sentence: Subject + had + verb 3
Negative Sentence: Subject + had +not + verb 3
Interrogative Sentence: Had + Subject + verb 3?
Examples: Atom had gone to school.

Atom hadn’t gone to school.
Had Atom gone to school?

ประการท่หี น่ึง: ใช้กบั เหตกุ ารณ์สองเหตกุ ารณ์ทเ่ี กิดขนึ ้ ไมพ่ ร้อมกนั ในอดตี และสนิ ้ สดุ ลงไปแล้วในอดตี
โดยเหตกุ ารณ์หนงึ่ เกิดขนึ ้ ก่อนอีกเหตกุ ารณ์หนง่ึ โดยมีหลกั ในการแตง่ ประโยคดงั นี ้

- เหตกุ ารณ์ท่เี กิดก่อน ใช้ Past Perfect Tense
(Subject + had+ Verb 3)

- เหตกุ ารณ์ที่เกิดหลงั ใช้ Past Simple Tense
(Subject + Verb 2)

Examples:
They (go) out for a walk after they (eat) dinner.
They went out for a walk after they had eaten dinner.

Paan (learn) English before he (go) to U.S.A.
Paan had learnt English before he went to U.S.A.

When we (reach) the field, the football match (begin).
When we reached the filed, the football match had begun.

When I (call) on Jane, her mother (tell) me that she (leave) home.
When I called on Paeng-mi, her mother told me that she had left home.

TIPS: Past Perfect Tense ใช้คกู่ บั Past Simple Tense เสมอและมกั เช่ือมประโยคด้วย after, before, when,
that

เวลามาก่อนหน้านี”้ โดยมีโครงสร้างประโยคดงั นี ้

By the time + Past Simple, Past Perfect Tense
เชน่ By the time the sun set, we had left the office.

By 1980 John had been a policeman for thirty years.
By May he had worked here for two years.
TIP: หลงั By ถ้าระบุเวลาที่เป็ นอดีตแนน่ อน จะใช้เฉพาะ Past Perfect Tense ประโยคเดียวก็ได้

ปรารถนาในสง่ิ ที่ตรงกันข้ามกบั ความเป็ นจริง ทเี่ กิดขนึ ้ แล้วในอดีต เช่น

ความจริงท่เี ป็ นอย่:ู I was born in a poor family.
ความปรารถนาใหม่: I wish I had been born in a rich family.
