KEVICC British Science Week
Capturing Science by Dr Ruffle
For KEVICC British Science week we had a photography
competition that set out to capture an example of the
science that is all around us.
The winner was Hebe Pearson-Link. Her photo of ice crystal
formation (right) was praised scientifically for capturing a
fundamental physical process as liquids become solids as
they cool. There was a clear view of all parts of the extended
crystal so that you can see the unique patterns. Mr Moon
also was impressed with the composition and lighting that
allowed different colours from the surroundings to shine
through.
Highly commended was Harry Beach’s composition of
water in motion (left). A long exposure of flowing water,
we liked the ideas of movement and energy that were
captured in this image and Mr Moon was impressed with
Harry’s technical skill.
Highly commended also was Nina Chambers (right, although Advertise from just £20 per month* | Call 07875 538 848
breaking the rules a bit by submitting five images in a
collection!). We were impressed at her different treatments of
the ideas about light and how it transfers energy. The variety
of colours and intensities from different light sources was
very well done indeed.

JUNE 2021
TOTNES MATTERS
I’m touched and deeply
honoured to have the
opportunity to continue to serve
the town I love. The last 6
months has been a really
difficult time but I am so proud
of all the people who have
stepped up to support the work
of our voluntary groups, and to
have been part of a council that
had the foresight to support
these groups. Everybody is
saying this is going to be a
bumper season for visitors this
year and I am confident that
Totnes is going from strength to
strength. I am most looking
forward to getting out and
meeting different community
groups.
Here’s looking forward to a
much better year.
