Chick-fil-A on Sundays

5 stages of grief

Chick-fil-A
on sundays

By Gretchen Scheidler
Based on a true story

It was 2:00 on a sunday in September. I had just
gotten done with my soccer game, we won 3-0. I
hadn’t eaten yet so I was starving.

A Chick - fil - A was coming up and I was preparing
the perfect way to ask my mom so it was guaranteed
she would say yes.

Me and my family joke a lot, so I said “I sure hope we don’t
stop and get Chick-fil-A for lunch” in a sarcastic voice. I
was really excited because she was in a good mood today
and Chick-fil-A was the only thing that sounded good.

But to my suprise, she just said “It’s sunday” like ok?
Where’s my Chick-fil-A mom? I was just sitting there
waiting for her to come up with a better reason to
say no than ‘It’s sunday’ but instead, she said 3
minutes later, “Chick-fil-A is closed on sunday”

My heart dropped. I obviously didn’t believe her
because that’s weird. “Very funny, I’ll even pay you
back I just want chicken nuggets” I said nervously
because what if she was telling the truth. “Why
would I lie to you, look it up if you don’t believe me”
my mom said.

I open safari and look up if Chick-fil-A is closed on
sundays, and it turns out that it IS true. I was still
convinced it wasn’t though, all I wanted was
Chick-fil-A.

I was mad because everyone was lying to me about
it, even the internet. Why was a restaurant closed on
only sunday? I tried telling my mom that maybe it
was just that location and we should try to go to a
different one.

“They’re all closed on sunday” my mom said. I was
heartbroken. All I wanted was chicken nuggets. I
could feel the tears forming in my eyes. Sunday was
now my least favorite day of the week.

Once we got home I realized that my mom and the
internet weren’t lying to me. That ruined my day, but
there was nothing I could do about it and I moved
on. I still think to this day about how weird it is that
they’re closed on sundays though.

This happened a few years ago and not only am I
still mad about and think it is unnecessary but I’ve
given up at this point. Thanks for reading my not so
sad grief story.
