ประเภทของคำกริยำ

คำกริยำอำจแบ่งออกเป็ น main verbs และ auxiliary verbs

1. Main verbs คือ คำกริยำแท้ หรือคำกริยำหลกั ในประโยค ซ่ึงสำมำรถแบ่งได้เป็ น3 ประเภทใหญ่ ๆ
คือ intransitive verbs, transitive verbs และ linking verbs
1) Intransitive verbs คือคำกริยำท่ีไม่ต้องกำรกรรมมำรองรับ เช่น run, fly swim,
shout เป็ นต้น
2) Transitive verbs คือคำกริยำท่ีต้องมีกรรมมำรองรับ เช่น eat, cut, give,
produce, provide เป็ นต้น
3) Linking verbs คือคำกริยำทเ่ี ชื่อมประธำนกบั คำนำมหรือคำคุณศัพท์ทต่ี ำมมำ ได้แก่ รูป
ต่ำง ๆ ของคำกริยำ be, seem, look, become, turn, smell, sound,
taste, feel, etc. คำกริยำประเภทนีจ้ ะต้องมสี ่วนเสริมประธำน (subject
complement) ส่วนเสริมประธำนอำจเป็ นคำนำมหรือคุณศัพท์กไ็ ด้

2. Auxiliary Verbs คอื กริ ิยาช่วย คือ Verb ที่ใช้ร่วมกบั Verb หลกั ในการสร้างประโยค
แบง่ เป็น 2 พวก คือ

1) Primary auxiliaries เช่น Be, Have,Do พวกนี้ยงั สามารถทาตวั

เป็น Verb แท้ได้ด้วย รวมถงึ เป็นตวั ที่ประกอบอย่ใู น Tense ต่างๆ ดงั นี้

Be : V1 = is/am/are Have : V1 = has/have

V2 = was/were V2 = had

V3 = been V3 = had

Do : V1 = does/do

V2 = did

V3 = done

2) Modal auxiliaries เช่น can, could, may, might, must, ought, should,
will, would พวกนีใ้ ช้ในการขอร้อง บอกความจาเป็ น หรือความเป็ นไปได้

รปู ของคำกริยำ คำกริยำแท้โดยทั่วไปจะมี 5 รูปคือ
1. รปู ทีย่ ังไมไ่ ดผ้ ัน (base form) เช่น walk, speak, hear, cut
2. รูปทีล่ งท้ำยด้วย s (-s form) เชน่ walks, speaks, hears, cuts
3. รูปอดีต (past form) เชน่ walked, spoke, heard, cut
4. รูป present participle เช่น walking, speaking, hearing, cutting
5. รปู past participle เช่น walked, spoken, heard, cut

Finding Verbs as a Part of Speech:

1. Albert was making a sketch.
2.When Alex came here, I was having my brunch.
3. After coming here, Juan prepared lunch for us.
4. Tammy could not do it since he caught a cold last night.
5. He bought some medicine yesterday but did not take them without
doctor’s confirmation.
