Be brave in facing your fears.

As a growing teenager, we are always being put upfront with new experiences and
challenges. Challenges that might surprise or scare us depending on how we face them.
From this book, I learnt that no matter what challenge comes your way, you can face it with
bravery and determination. Being brave isn’t just about your action towards something, but
it is also your ability to say no, ability to stand up for yourself, your potential in deciding
what is good for you and what isn't. Though it might seem like teenage rebellion, it is up to
you on how to present bravery because that capability is in you only.

Moving on to the next value I learned which is the importance of establishing a loyal
friendship. I have a small friend group that I trust, and they mean the world to me. They are
the reason I become the successful version of me, they are the reason I am braver than
yesterday, and they are also the reason I am breathing right. what I learnt from Esther’s story
is how the people around you can affect your growth. Esther was surrounded with people
who were brave for her, and the people who wanted her to be brave together with them, I was
surrounded with the people who believed in my potential, and the people who supported my
dreams and ambitions. Esther’s friends were loyal to her, and they loved her to bits. Esther
was a weird kid, and she still is, but the people she loved stuck with her and grew with her,
something that amazes me very much. based on this book, we can conclude that it is
important to find the right people. as per said by grandpa Paguro from the movie Luca
“Some people, they’ll never accept him, but some will, and he seems to know how to find the
good ones.”

The last and most important value I obtained from this book is how bringing mental health
and domestic abuse awareness into regular discussions among peers and acquaintances.
Though it might seem taboo, this issue is an ongoing issue, and it has become very serious
especially among teenagers. many teenagers are facing undiagnosed mental illnesses and
are going through their lives with the illness without guidance and professional help. the
book also tells us about how we shouldn’t feel guilty about looking for help as per said by
the author herself that there is no shame in seeking help. one of the characters once said in
the book and i quote “Depression was a real sneaky jerk", besides, the book talks about how
dangerous domestic abuse is to households, ripping them to shreds and how violent the
impact is to members of the family especially the youth. we should at least recognise that it
is a growing issue in Malaysia and how many cases are being silenced by certain parties. be
brave to talk about it and find a solution on how to hinder the growth of such issues. when
there’s a will there must be a way, God bless.

“What other beautiful things had fear been hiding from her? What else had the curse long
kept her from discovering?

So be brave, be you. From the youth, for our youth.
