Lithium by Nirvana is being played on the radio. text on
screen explains this is 1994 Manhattan.
The bell rings as THE NOWHERE MAN enters.
THE NOWHERE MAN is tall, young, handsome- he carries himself
with an air of confidence and a sardonic enthusiasm.
THE NOWHERE MAN sits in a booth by himself and begins to
stare intently at a young couple sitting by the window.
The coffee shop is low lit, dark with the only light coming
from the wall to wall window provided by a dull spring sky.
The waitress leaves the young couples table and THE NOWHERE
MAN rests his cheek on his hand clearly listening in on there
conversation with an expression of curiosity.
AMY is young, her grungy clothes betraying an her rebellious
nature. she sits slouched her body language implying an
almost bored and lax nature towards this situation although
her smile in contrast shows her love for her fiancé David and
the excuse to spend time with him. DAVID in stark opposition
sits straight, alert. his hair is long and sits just above
his shoulders. His five o'clock shadow subtly intentional
adding to his façade of looking effortless where in fact his
outfit is carefully planned and shows a love for fashion.
although he shares AMYS content smile. AMY sips her coffee
and turns her attention from the waitress to DAVID.
AMY
Snarky bitch.
DAVID
She's just doing her job love.
DAVID attempts to hide a dry smile as AMY puts down her
coffee and begins to fidget with her ring.
AMY
Have you heard anything from your
mother?
DAVID begins to speak but is cut off by THE NOWHERE MAN
sitting at there table with them. He frowns clearly irritated
by this stranger cutting him off whilst THE NOWHERE MAN
appears delighted to cause such irritation.

THE NOWHERE MAN
I am incredibly sorry but I fear your
conversation was becoming increasingly
dull and at the risk of exaggerating
my own importance, a herculean feat of
which I am I am aware, I have decided
to come and salvage this sinking ship.
DAVID begins to stand up and protest and THE NOWHERE MAN
raises, his hand commanding him to sit down.
THE NOWHERE MAN
I apologize for my lack of manners
although I must excuse myself on the
grounds I am delighted to finally meet
you
THE NOWHERE MAN says. that last line looking directly at Amy.
DAVID
What's your damage buddy?
THE NOWHERE MAN begins smiling and leans back in his chair.
THE NOWHERE MAN
My damage David?
DAVID
How do you know my name?
THE NOWHERE MAN
The same way I know that that coat you
were wearing is stolen from your last
flat mate. As a child your cat was
called snowball, may he rest in peace.
You lost your virginity on the second
of January 1989 and that there is
currently a large tumor growing on the
left side of your brain.
DAVID'S face drops and THE NOWHERE MAN grins gleefully.
THE NOWHERE MAN
Okay I lied about that last one,
although you can never be too careful.
Amy laughs as David scowls looking royally pissed off.

AMY

ship of a conversation then Mr.?
THE NOWHERE MAN ignores this question and continues at his
own pace.
THE NOWHERE MAN
Now that is more my speed my dear a
sensible question for which I can
provide a sensible answer.
DAVID

DAVID stands and picks up his cigarettes.
DAVID
Ill be back in a minute babe.
David leaves the coffee shop and
starts to smoke a cigarette just
outside.
AMY looks unbothered as if this is a common occurrence for
DAVID
THE NOWHERE MAN

THE NOWHERE MAN

AMY

THE NOWHERE MAN

very little that I don't know
AMY

Amy is intrigued in what this stranger has to say
AMY

THE NOWHERE MAN

happy with it
AMY

THE NOWHERE MAN
(thumbing his necklace)
Vivienne has my heart I'm afraid

THE NOWHERE MAN

though there are more pressing matters
to discuss
AMY
and those would be?
THE NOWHERE MAN

Amy's guard has been raised and she now acts more defensive
AMY

very serious

seconds
a loud screeching noise is heard from outside as car hurtles
through the coffee shop window, right through the table they
are sitting at avoiding the nowhere man who appears to
disappear completely and crashing into Amy killing her
instantly. the nowhere man stands looking at her corpse and
frowns. David rushes back into the coffee shop, sees what has
happened and grabs the nowhere man.
DAVID
WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU DO
THE NOWHERE MAN
I did nothing boy
the nowhere man shrugs David off, pulls a cigarette out of
his pocket and begins to smoke. David is seething with rage
coping with this immediate loss.
THE NOWHERE MAN
now David, would you like to see your
fiancé again?
DAVID
you can make that happen?
THE NOWHERE MAN
I believe that's not beyond the realms
of possibility

David grabs the nowhere man, continuing to poorly mask his
desperation with anger to which the nowhere man smiles
THE NOWHERE MAN
then I would advise you to follow me
EXT.COFFEE SHOP ALLEYWAY
the nowhere man checks the time on his watch then begins to
stroll down the alley onto the street.
DAVID
where are we going?
THE NOWHERE MAN
to see some old friends
David stops and stands his ground.
DAVID
I asked where were going not what were
doing
THE NOWHERE MAN
all in due time David
the nowhere man reaches his car, a black 1970 dodge
challenger and gets in, David follows him getting in the
passengers side.
DAVID
(sarcastically)
nice car
THE NOWHERE MAN
you can walk if you'd prefer
DAVID
you'd have to tell me where were going
first
the nowhere man smiles and drives off. he pulls a carton of
cigarettes from pocket and takes one with his mouth before
offering one to David.
DAVID

THE NOWHERE MAN

DAVID
no, your name.who.the.fuck. are you
THE NOWHERE MAN
my name dear boy is what got me into
this mess in the first place. you see,
your little fiancé has unwittingly
been granted a power far beyond her
comprehension and I am simply here to
remove it before she has a chance to
abuse said power.
DAVID
bullshit, amys dead
THE NOWHERE MAN
yes she is, dead as a doorknob, we
just need to find out where she went
DAVID
where she went?
THE NOWHERE MAN
to which afterlife David, then we can
pay her a visit
David drops his fag out of the car window and stares out,
gazing at the scenery with a sense of renewed hope whereas
the nowhere man continues smiling. There out of the city now
and our driving down some quieter roads where the nowhere man
stops at a gas station. him and David leave the car and after
filling it up in silence they enter the gas station. he puts
the money on the table and turns to the attendant.
THE NOWHERE MAN
two cartons Marlboro reds my friend
the attendant hands the nowhere man the cigarettes and they
leave the station and walk across the road to have a
cigarette.
DAVID
what do you do? for work I mean, like
where does this money come from the
fancy car and fancy suit.
THE NOWHERE MAN
I did not pay for the car or this suit
with money David, people seem to have
a tendency for giving me what I want.

DAVID

THE NOWHERE MAN
an idiot?
DAVID
what's with all the bullshit answers?
THE NOWHERE MAN
(suddenly and briefly serious)
I hope very much you are not
insinuating that I'm a liar dear boy
David is intimidated by this sudden burst of seriousness and
the nowhere man smiles once more.
THE NOWHERE MAN
I am many things David, many things
but a liar is unfortunately not and
will never be one of them. now, there
are ways around this as I assume
you've realized by now. I like to
refer to it simply as telling the
truth with a creative spin.
David sulks back into his chair, backing away from the
confrontation. Whilst the nowhere man seems to revert to his
previous self.
THE NOWHERE MAN
now David, we have a long journey
ahead and after witnessing something
so horrid... I assume you'd like some
rest.
After hearing this David is filled with an overwhelming
exhaustion. He attempts to fight it but quickly succumbs and
falls asleep.
