Introductory Rites
Reading 1 Corinthians 1: 26 – 2:5

Lector: James Marquez, C.S.P.

A Reading from the First Letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians.

Consider your own calling, brothers. Not many of you were wise by human standards, not many
were powerful, not many were of noble birth. Rather, God chose the foolish of the world to
shame the wise, and God chose the weak of the world to shame the strong, and God chose the
lowly and despised of the world, those who count for nothing, to reduce to nothing those who
are something, so that no human being might boast before God. It is due to him that you are in
Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God, as well as righteousness, sanctification, and
redemption, so that, as it is written, “Whoever boasts, should boast in the Lord.”

When I came to you, brothers, proclaiming the mystery of God, I did not come with sublimity
of words or of wisdom. For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ,
and him crucified. I came to you in weakness and fear and much trembling, and my message and
my proclamation were not with persuasive (words of) wisdom, but with a demonstration of spirit
and power, so that your faith might rest not on human wisdom but on the power of God.

The Word of the Lord. Response Thanks be to God.

Responsorial Psalm

Alleluia
Gospel Matthew 9:35-38
A Reading from the Holy Gospel According to Matthew.
Response Glory to You, O Lord.
Jesus went around to all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming
the gospel of the kingdom, and curing every disease and illness. At the sight of the crowds,
his heart was moved with pity for them because they were troubled and abandoned, like sheep
without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is abundant but the laborers
are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest.”
The Gospel of the Lord. R. Praise to You, Lord Jesus Christ.
Homily His Eminence Wilton Cardinal Gregory

Intercessions
Response Lord, hear our prayer.
Prayer of Blessing and Sprinkling Rite

After the prayer of blessing, Cardinal Gregory sprinkles with holy water those present
and then enters Hecker House to bless the inside of the building.
A small group of Paulists will accompany His Eminence.
As Cardinal Gregory blesses the inside of the building,

please remain here and join in singing Where Charity and Love prevail.

Where Charity and Love Prevail

After Sprinkling Rite inside Hecker House,
the Cardinal returns to the entrance for the concluding Rites.

Concluding Rite Prayer and Blessing from the Book of Blessings
Hymn “Lead Us Great Teacher Paul”

Following our hymn, we will have the ribbon cutting and photos, and then all are welcome to tour
Hecker House and to have some refreshments offered in the dining and conference rooms.
