President’s Message Welcome to Spring at Norwood Hills Country Club and an exciting beginning to warmer weather activities. It is nice to see all of you enjoying the wonderful amenities that we offer and looking forward to continued growth and participation in all our Golf, Racquets, Swim and Social events. Our Calendar is full, and we will continue evaluating our offerings to provide members and their guests a wonderful experience. The highlights from the Winter include strong golf and range activities thanks to the weather, new Turfhound mats and a refresh to the Pro Shop. The Clubhouse was updated, painted, and refreshed in many areas for members to enjoy with more still to come and once the weather breaks, we will be getting the Racquet and Swim facilities ready for play and enjoyment. NHCC will be embarking on our East Course Renovation Project soon that includes immediate needs to bunkers along with tees and plantings which includes some additional tree removal. No one likes to see nature removed, but the 60+ year old Pin Oaks served their purpose for many years and now is a time for renewal and renovation. With prudent fiscal oversight and new member initiation fees being applied to the Capital account we are expecting completion of this project within the current Capital budget and the majority of the work will be completed by Spring of 2024. Much more to come on this project. We have a new West Shack patio and landscape project in progress and will be updating and renewing our landscape areas so as the weather improves so do your outdoor amenities. The current management team continues to work on execution of all the club events, outside events, and general activities. We are working with all departments/programs to make sure they have the tools needed to deliver the elevated level of service that members expect and deserve. Currently the Board of Directors is working on filling the only open position, that of General Manager, and are dedicated to hiring a “Face of NHCC” to engage the membership, drive best practices and focus on increasing membership with sound fiscal management. I am looking forward to continued success in our 1st year of the next 100 to come. See you on the Tee, Court, Pool Deck or Patio, Shari L. Smith 2022-23 President- Norwood Hills Country Club 3

I look forward to another year filled with great memories and things to celebrate. In the upcoming months we are going to be introducing some fun, new events to welcome all of our new members to the Club. Keep an eye out for some of these dates and their announcements. As always, if you know of anyone who may be interested in a possible membership, please feel free to pass along my contact information. Dining News Dear Norwood Hills Members, First, allow me to thank each and every one of you for your patience this past winter. My team and I were quite active with various maintenance and organizational projects, as well as many hours of culinary R&D. In saying that, I’d like to commend each of the team members of my department. Their dedication and energetic return to the Club after winter break made for a seamless March 1st Opening Day. The new Spring menu has incorporated a vast majority of the member feedback and many kind words throughout the year. We’ve kept the classics like the Prime Rib French Dip, St. Louis Style Fried Rice, and that famous grilled Cheeseburger! New this year, to much fanfare, we’ve added some fun seafood items like the Crispy Shrimp & Calamari, Dockside Fish Tacos, and Ahi Tuna Nachos...yum! As with every year that I’ve been at the helm of your culinary department, you will see menus that reflect seasonality and take advantage of our local food growers and artisans. It takes a very talented team to guide everything into its place and I’m very fortunate to have Chefs Carl McCoy, Kaitlyn Jacobson, and Regina Bell always on deck to make sure you have an amazing culinary experience. Please stay tuned as the new summer seasonal changes will begin taking shape Culinary Happenings We held our first major food and spirit tasting right before St Patrick’s Day and had a great time pairing whiskeys with a fun and diverse menu. We covered it all, from a play on an Elvis sandwich, to filet with foie gras and truffles! It was amazing, and I must thank the gracious members in attendance. It was tremendous to be able to interact with each of you and discuss our processes with each pairing. With two wine dinners planned for Spring, be sure secure your seat soon! I’m looking forward to seeing all our families on Easter weekend, we have a tremendous food line-up planned for Saturday and Sunday. Also, great news for all our golfers...the West Shack will be opening on April 1, weather permitting. Inching closer to May, we’re pleased to welcome back our ladies golf and tennis groups. Not to mention, we’ll honor our Mother’s on May14 with a grand brunch buffet! Finally, I’ve been very happy with the reception of our daily and weekly features. They’ve received such tremendous positive feedback that I’ll be continuing to offer those, as well as add special offerings to our a la carte services as much as possible. Thank you for your continued support, I’ll see you in the dining room soon! Chef Bowman Culinary Happenings
Dining News Food & Beverage Hello All, I hope you all had a nice winter break and were able to sneak away to somewhere warm. We are excited for the 2023 season ahead! We spent the last few months working on both the physical Clubhouse: updating the Board Room, painting the Norlite lobby, and refinishing the tables and chairs in the main bar, as well as training, planning, and organizing for the upcoming season. It has been fantastic to see so many people enjoying the Club this March. We had a lot of fun at our first “First Thursday Wine Tasting” with Chris Hoskins of Sparta Beverage. It was nice to see a full Champions Lounge, lots of comradery between friends and families. The Whiskey Dinner on March 16 was fun, informative, and enjoyed by all who attended. “I thought it was a great event on several levels. (1) Food was amazing. (2) The comradery beforehand was so nice to see. We met several new members. (3) The whiskey was good and the ability to ask the host questions made it a more fun and interesting night. I hope we will continue having these events and hope that more members choose to participate” – Rosenbaum “I had a great time. Food was good and it was fun to hear the Whiskey rep and the Chefs describe their items. Very Enjoyable. Will definitely do it again.” -Jansen Our first ‘Friday Happy Hour’ of the season was full of energy, despite the rainy cold weather that descended upon us that afternoon. Gavin Duffy and friends serenaded us with some soulful tunes and Darrel of Vine Connections poured some delicious South American wines. We have lots of fun events planned for the upcoming season; Patio Parties, Wine Dinners, Kids Cooking Classes and more! We hope to see you all at the Club in the coming weeks, between Easter, Mother’s Day, and all the fun events in between: Bubbles & Bouquets, Scattered Peaks & Titus Wine Dinners, Happy Hours and more. Sincerely, Amanda Scoggin Clubhouse Manager Facebook.com/NorwoodHills Twitter.com/NorwoodHills lnstagram.com/NorwoodHills Linkedin.com/company/Norwood-Hills-Country-Club stay connected 6
AGNESS KACHILIKA, F&B Manager I am a MO native; originally from O’Fallon, but currently live in North County with my 5-year-old son Carter. I am a huge Hockey fan, and love to spend time playing and watching Hockey. Before coming to NHCC I was coaching Peewee 12U hockey in St. Peter’s, as well as serving & bartending at BCC. I came to Norwood for the opportunity to take on more responsibility, and to advance my career in Hospitality. I love a challenge; my favorite color is orange, and my favorite food is macaroni and cheese. JORDAN Boettcher, F&B Director I am originally from Belleville, Illinois. I have three dogs; I love iced coffee and going to the gym. My favorite food is Sushi. I’ve been working in food and beverage for the last 10 years. Before joining the team at Norwood, I was most recently at Bellerive CC as their F&B Manager, helping to oversee all of the various F&B operations at the Club. Grounds & Greens It’s been an exceptionally good winter for working outside this year! We have had a good season for removing dead and dying Pin oaks; since Thanksgiving we have averaged roughly four a week, including grinding stumps and back-filling with soil. Normal winter work we have been doing includes rebuilding of equipment and getting everything ready for the upcoming season. Something we also did this off-season that hasn’t been done for a couple of years due to funding, is refinished all the course accessories; things like benches, ball washers, tee markers, etc. We are looking forward to the coming season and excited for the addition of two new assistants. Logan Smith comes to us from New Orleans where he was working at English Turn. He is in his infancy as far as getting his turf education but came with high regards from the English Turn Superintendent. We will help Logan get on his way with his formal education as well as his on-course education. Dustin Eddleston, native of Eastern Missouri, joins the team after his recent tenure at a club in Pittsburg, PA. Along with new hires, I have two retirements to announce. Gene Spies, our Irrigation Tech, will be retiring June 1. Gene has been with Norwood Hills since 1979 and has expressed interest to remain as a part-time seasonal worker for the near future. We will be looking for someone to replace Gene, as maintaining a thirty year old irrigation system demands a lot of time. Along with Gene, Steve Reid will be retiring after the Ascension in September. Steve and I both started at Norwood in November 1987. Steve has handled our in-house construction projects all these years with great success. Steve has had a young man, Jordan Arnold, training with him for several years, so we will be in good hands for the future. We wish both Steve and Gene good luck, and thank them for their years of service. Having them on staff has certainly made my job easier. Inquiries about summer jobs has been up, compared to last year. I am hoping this is pointing in the direction that it won’t be so hard to fill out the seasonal staff for the season. This, along with our recent hires, has me more excited about the upcoming season than I have been in quite some time. I can’t wait for it to get going! -Mike Null 11
Grounds & Greens Ascension Charity Classic Returns for Year Three With more than $2 million raised for charity since its inception, the Ascension Charity Classic presented by Emerson continues to make a significant impact on Norwood Hills Country Club. As preparations are underway for year three of the PGA TOUR Champions event, scheduled for the week of September 5 – 10, we salute the collective efforts of Norwood Hills members and the St. Louis community for their gallant efforts so far. More than 2.3 million people watched the Ascension Charity Classic on Golf Channel, which showcased many St. Louis and Missouri tourist attractions. Visibility from the tournament has played a notable role in the unprecedented demand to hold charitable golf events at Norwood, in addition to other events such as weddings and business meetings. As with the first two successful years of the ACC, Norwood Hills members who serve as volunteers will again play a key role in this year’s tournament. Registration is currently open for volunteers, and we look forward to the continued support and leadership from the membership. To ensure that all Norwood Hills members can attend the tournament, each member will automatically receive two free tickets. For those who want to purchase additional tickets, the member order form will be available in May and will once again allow members to take advantage of discounted pricing. There’s a lot of buzz about the Ascension Charity Classic presented by Emerson across the PGA TOUR Champions circuit. Legendary players continue to speak out about fan engagement and hospitality venues, and, of course, playing the iconic West course. Continued support for the ACC means continued support for our principal charities, Marygrove, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater St. Louis, and the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis. At the end of the day, they are the tournament’s biggest winners. 12
