Title: Zapin Zakapuzire
Synopsis:
Zapin Zakapuzire was first shown in Thailand in 1975 by the local dancers in
Narathiwat Province on the occasion of a royal visit at Thaksinrajanivej Palace.
Zapin dance in Thailand was passed on by the artists from the Kelantan state
of Malaysia. However, it was developed and adapted into a Thai style, which is
gentler and using more hand postures in the dance. Zakapuzire in Thai means
a betel tray for a blessing ceremony. This tray is used in important ceremonies,
like wedding ceremonies or welcome ceremonies, especially in Pattani Province,
Yala Province and Narathiwat Province. Zapin Zakapuzire, the only traditional
zapin dance left in Thailand, is performed for welcoming and blessing guests.
There are 7 movements in Zapin Zakapuzire – Dok Ramwong, Dok Daejor, Dok
Proydokmai, Dok Kledplasan, Dok Kledplayao, Dok Rongngeng and Dok Rak. The
dance uses the Zapin Zakapuzire song played in Pattani style.
