Elements of design are the features that make up
a design. I.e.:

1) Line
2) Shape
3) Direction
4) Size
5) Texture
6) Color

Line

The linear marks made
with a pen or brush or
the edge created when

two shapes meet.

A shape is a self contained
defined area.

Examples of shapes would
include: Squares, circles,
free formed shapes or

natural shapes.

a course along which
someone or something

moves.

Size is simply the
relationship of the

area occupied by
one shape to that of

another.

Texture is the surface
quality of a shape.

Examples of texture would
include: rough, smooth, soft

hard glossy etc.

Color is the
element of art
that is produced

when light,
striking an object,
is reflected back

to the eye.
