(Reflection of Her Life) Let the Life I’ve Lived Speak for Me On January 19, 1935 a baby girl was born to Willie and Artnicishel Smith in Yazoo County, Mississippi. The baby was named Bethina, She was the eighth of the twelve children born to Willie and Artnicishel. Bethina was a product of Number 2 High School in Yazoo City. She also attended St. Francis Vocational Catholic School. She was very industrious and in 1950 she left Mississippi and joined siblings who were living in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. There she worked and continued her education. After living in Milwaukee for a stint, “Beth” missed her parents and in 1952 she decided to join them (who had moved from Mississippi and relocated in Los Angeles, California). She was a caring person who would help anyone that required help. She was a giving person. She was talented. In her “spare” time, she sold cosmetics and was a hair stylist. She served as Boy Scout Den Mother secretary when her sons were young and her first grandson was old enough to be a Boy Scout. As an industrious person, she worked as a housekeeper for a while. Later she worked for the U.S. Postal Service for several years. After working for the Post Office, she first began working for the Los Angeles Unified School District - the second largest school system in the United States. She first began as a Kitchen Helper and moved up the ladder to become a Kitchen Supervisor. After working for (L.A.U.S.D.) for twenty-seven years, she retired from the system. Although Bethina was brought up in the church, she strayed away from her upbringing and the devil tried to destroy her soul and he took her “into a far country” - the world. While there, she mothered three lovely children. BUT, in 1992 Father God reached out with his loving hands and received his “parodical daughter” into his family again. In 1956, Bethina married Lonnie Hyman (now deceased). From this union two children were born. He was a wonderful father to his three stepchildren Lynette, Anthony (deceased) and Kevin. In 2002 Mother Reed was joined in holy matrimony to Deacon Ernest Reed (deceased) of Detroit, Michigan. While in Milwaukee, she joined Living Waters Church of God in Christ pastored by Superintendent Richard Rogers. There she served as General Church Mother, Sunday School Teacher, Finance Board member, and other local and jurisdictional positions. She was well loved and respected by her church family. Mother Reed leaves to cherish her memories: Three great grandchildren: Ashley, Kaylah, and Lionel. Two great-great children: Jade and Noah. Lynette Guinevere Smith, Kevin D. Bonner, Harold Cecil (Adlissa), Charles Donnel (Lavana}, four grandchildren: Stanley, Jennifer, Morrie, Ebony Simone, five great grandchildren: two sisters: Albertine Smith-Wade (Samuel) ( Los Angeles, CA), Augustine Hughes (Diamond Bar, CA) and a host of nieces, nephews, church family and friends. “Brethren, I count it not myself to have apprehended but the one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth to those things which are before,” Philippians 3:13 Mother Bethina Hyman-Reed
