The Obituary

Devie Gilkey is the son of Francine Swait and Charlie D. Gilkey
born in Pacoima, California on May 8, 1962. He is the oldest of
three siblings Serena Lynn Gilkey and Valerie Gilkey.
Devie accepted Christ at a young age when he was baptized. Devie
grew up in Pacoima, California. As a young child he was raised by
his grandparents Eddie and Cynthia Hoskins who both preceded
his demise. His mother and father kept a relationship with him
throughout his life. Devie amongst all his cousins learned the
trade of construction.
Later in life, Devie moved to Los Angeles where he went back to
school and earned several certificates. With God's grace and
mercy, Devie was able to overcome any and all obstacles out of his
life. Soon after, Devie started living the life that God had planned
for him. Which included disciplining himself and becoming
enthusiastic about reading and studying the Bible.
Devie always kept a good sense of humor with that smile and
laugh. However, he stayed genuine about his life's journey. Devie
proved that no matter what life brings your way, with faith,
perseverance and the support of loved ones you can reach your
goals. Devie enjoyed joking around, boxing, and particularly the
strong bond that had grown with his immediate family. His special
relationship with his niece was very unique. He kept her laughing
and smiling, but made sure to instill in her knowledge about life's
challenges, including remaining true to herself and her family.
Devie leaves to cherish his memory His mother, Francine Swait
and his two sisters Serena Gilkey and Valerie Gilkey; one niece
Marcella Lewis and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins as well as a
multitude of friends.


