We would like to thank you for joining us to celebrate the 20th Annual
Mediterranean Festival. It is our great honor that of all the activities you
could be doing today you chose to come to our beloved St. Nicholas
Orthodox Christian Cathedral.

We are honored to have you as our special guests. We have made every

that you will “create memories that will last a lifetime.” We are proud to
serve our delecious and famous Middle Eastern Zaatar, Kabobs, Falafel,
and Shawarma. If you desire, we are also making Hookah pipes available
to rent for your enjoyment. Our Ladies Society will also be selling their

held recipies of the Middle East.
We truly hope you enjoy our enchating, beautiful and proud middle-

eastern culture.
We even have activities for your children such as face painting,

games and bouncers. Of course, remember to take a tour of our beloved
Cathedral which has some of the best religious art and icons anywhere.

We want to whole heartedly thank all of those who have helped make
this Festival possible through donations and volunteering time. It could

Ministry for the New Comers

Over the past three years, St. Nicholas Cathedral, through its Benevolent
Fund and contributions from many of our parishioners, was able to help
more than twenty families who arrived at the Cathedral from Syria asking
for help. Our committee was able to offer assistance to each family based
on their financial condition, the size of their family, and the age of their
children. Many different kinds of aid were offered.

When they first arrived, we invited the Syrian families to our home to
welcome them, lift their morale, and let them know that the church is
their home and the church community is here to help them in any way
we can.

For many of the families, their financial condition was very tight.
St. Nicholas offered them two months rent as they looked for work.
Many of our parishioners helped them find jobs.

The church helped one family to buy a used car so the husband could
go to work and they could drive their children to school. Our committee
worked very hard to find good schools for the Syrian children.

The Ladies’ Society was generous in assisting many families financially
to buy furniture and school supplies for their children.

Finally, some of the new families who arrived in Los Angeles, and to
St. Nicholas in particular, did not need much more than some moral
support, help finding a job, and having the peace of mind knowing that
the church is their home.

In conversations with the families the church has helped, we should be
proud of the strength and resilience of our Syrian brothers and sisters.
Each family is doing well. All, without exception, are very grateful for the
support they have received from St. Nicholas Cathedral.

Thank you for supporting the L.A. Mediterranean Festival. A percentage
of the funds goes to help the Syrian Refugees.
