Maria Samayoa

In Loving Memory of

Maria Cristina Samayoa

September 12, 1930 - January 7, 2018
Maria Cristina Samayoa was born in Guatemala City, Guatemala
on September 12, 1930. She was the oldest and firstborn child of
Maria Luisa Samayoa. Cristina, her brother Alfredo, and her sister
Maria Dolores Samayoa were taken to an orphanage where they
were raised after Maria Luisa fell ill.
When Cristina turned 18, she left the orphanage. She received
a scholarship to attend college in Guatemala. While there, she
studied sewing monograms and received her trade certification.
Shortly after attending college, Cristina found work tutoring
plantation field workers how to read and write. She had always
wanted to be a teacher.
Cristina had two sons, Edgar Arturo Samayoa born on July 19,
1954 and Carlos Humberto Samayoa born on September 14,
1959. Cristina also had four daughters, Blanca Odilia Samayoa
born on October 22, 1956, Irma Lucrecia Samayoa born on
December 28, 1965, Blandina Amparo Samayoa born on August 8,
1968 and Sandra Maribel Samayoa born on April 21, 1972. With
her Godparents and children already living in California, in 1982
Cristina decided to leave Guatemala and move to California to be
with her family.
Though she had a quiet exterior and mild demeanor, she was very
feisty. She was very giving and loved all her 6 children, 16 grand-
children and 8 great grandchildren. She loved everyone and spoiled
all the kids immensely.

Prayer to the Virgin of Guadalupe
Oh beloved Virgin of Guadalupe,

Mystic Rose, intercede for
us before your Son and get

for us thanks
what we ask you
In the moments of anguish
defend us from the forces of
our enemies, and at the time
of our death receives our
soul in Heaven. Amen.Virgin of Guadalupe
