Lindsey and Odessa Thomas. She was the second born of 16 children.
She went to Charles Drew High School in Eunice, Louisiana where she
excelled in sports.
At an early age, Dessie accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior.
She served as an usher and choir member at True Light Baptist Church.
Dessie Lee met and married the love of her life, Wilbert Joseph Babineaux,
on May 29th, 1953. With this union five children were born; Sandra,

Throughout her life, she accomplished many professional certificates in
the following fields of study; nursing, social services, and dentistry. Most

her to provide services for the community, personal and business events.

Church in Pacoima,CA for 30 years and served wherever necessary.
Membership changed for Dessie when her grandson, Donald J. Smith,
was ordained and became the pastor of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church (Pacoima,CA)
which brought her tremendous pride and joy. Dessie served on the Mother’s Board
and remained a member at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church until the Lord called
her home.
Dessie was preceded in death by both parents, four siblings passing
at birth and Charles, Patricia, Otis, Mary Alice, Helen, and James.
Left to cherish her memories are her children: Sandra Richardson

greatest friend. She leaves behind her siblings: Ivory, Belva, Terry, Jackie,
Allen, Ethel (sister-in-law), Edward (brother-in-law), and a host of nieces,

When I look back and reflect on the time shared with Ms. Dessie (mom) it brings a smile to my face and
warmth to my heart. What an incredible woman she was! She always had enough love to go around and soul
that improved the lives of others just being in her presence. I always admired her ability to reinvent herself;
whatever the task was she did with grace and passion, whether it was cooking, in the medical field, or owning
her own flower shop. Whatever the adventure was she did it with love and care. I enjoyed the times I spent
with her and her family sitting at the dinner table sharing and laughing, TV watching in the din or at church.
She always welcomed me with a smile and a big hug. She will be missed but leaves good memories behind of
knowing she filled our lives with love and happiness.
Love you Ms. Dessie!

Lord, if I could hear mother pray again.
Mother saw that bright light, and landed in glory land.
After she prayed, precious Lord take my hand.
She was ready on Wednesday, April twenty nine, two thousand and twenty.
She saw heaven's door open, so she walked right on in it.
She went home to her heavenly father.
She left behind grands, son and daughters.
She flew away beyond the skies.
For she knew I. Revelation, God said He'd wipe the tears from her eyes.
She was tall, courageous, bold and strong.
She looked at family and friends and said, I have to tarry along,
For, I moved from my old house to my brand new home.
No more crying, no more worries, and no more weathering the storm.
Your mother was the best.
God gave her her final exam and she scored one hundred on her test.
Never will she return here anymore
For she whispered, I am going on that distant shore
I will see my sweetheart and my savior.
For God looked at me and found favour.
She has gone out of the beating rain.
I know you are saying,
Lord, If I could hear mother pray again.
