Celebration Of Life Melvin Hay March 17, 1930 – January 3, 2023 Services: Friday, March 17, 2023 at 11 am Berean COGIC 3417 Rainier Ave South, Seattle, Washington Senior Pastor Gary Hay


Melvin Hay Melvin Hay was born on March 17, 1930, to Joe Walter Hay and Vida Carreathers in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Two sons were born to this union Melvin and Walter. Although Melvin’s formal education was limited to 7 th Grade, he continued to work the family farm with his grandmother, until he was 17 years old and received his first job at Oklahoma Steele. On October 26, 1950, Melvin married Inez Mack in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Six children were born to this union, Olafaye, Melvin Jr., Robert, Linda, Gary and Debra. In 1958 Melvin headed west (California) where he began his career in construction. He held various positions but developed his skills as a cement. He flourished in this filed and quickly carved a name for himself in the industry. He joined the Cement Masons Union and continued to work project all over Southern California. Many years were spent working in the Glendale area. In 1962 Melodi Hay was born to Melvin and Affard Mae Gibson. In 1964 Tonya Hay was born to Melvin and Martha Faye Richardson. In the late 1960’s, Melvin met and married Carol Hersh, no children were born to this union. Job opportunity lead Melvin north to Seattle, Washington where he continued to hone his skills as a cement mason. On October 9, 1976, he married Carol Jo Carter and her son Paul. Two children were born to this union, Yedda and Malcolm. On September 9, 1993, Melvin married Ruth Janet Slaughter and her children: Sheree, Cynthia, Aldo, Deadru, Karl (Deceased), Sonja, Lucina (Damien) and Olivia. Melvin enjoyed his retirement years spending time with his grandchildren and attending their sporting events --which he bragged about often. He also LOVED his rottweilers, Cassius and Ali. Previously departed loved ones Spouses, Dixie Rodgers, (grandmother), Joe W Hay (Father), Vida Carreathers (mother), Walter Hay (Brother), OlaFaye (daughter), Marcus (grandson). Melvin lived a full life and he is survived by his children: Melvin Jr, Robert (Linda), Linda, Gary (Phylis), Debra, Melodi (Leo), Tonya (Steven), Yedda, Malcolm (Heather) and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-greatgrandchildren and friends.
