My Life

The beginning of my life’s journey started on August 2, 1959
in Vicksburg, Mississippi. My parents were God fearing and loving
parents who brought us up in a spiritual, loving, and educational envi-
ronment. I was 7 of 12 children born to Joe and Jeannette Rhodes. At
the age of nine, I confessed Christ as my personal Savior. I was
baptized and started my Christian journey at Mt. Alban Missionary
Baptist Church. I attended Rosa A. Temple High School where I had a
passion for music and home economics. Upon graduation, I
attended Mississippi Valley State College. In 1970 I moved to Los
Angeles, California where I attended Los Angeles Trade Technical
College. This is where I studied fashion and interior design. I began
my career with the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder where I
was employed for 32 years. In 1973 I met my soul mate, Lester Brown
Jr. We were happily married for 30 years. In my home, I emphasized
family togetherness, education, and spiritual development. God and
the well-being of others were and always have been my primary focus.

On March 24, 2016, God opened Heaven’s doors to welcome
Evelyn Brown. The angels and family members that have gone before
her have gathered together to welcome her to her Heavenly Home. She
was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Jeannette Rhodes, and
three brothers, Melvin, Freddie, and Clyde Rhodes.

Those left to cherish her memories are her husband, Leslie
Brown, one son, Dwayne Brown, one daughter, Tammi Brown, four
grandchildren, Jordan, Khalil, Leilani, and Avery, three brothers, Joe
Brown Jr. of Chicago, IL, Edward Charles Brown of Inglewood, CA,
Kenneth (Harriet) Brown of Jacksonville, FL; five sisters, Maggie
Reese of Detroit, MI, Clementine Jones of Saginaw, MI, Sadie Judge
of Carson, CA, Rena Cole of Lawndale, CA, and Janice (John) Wildee
of Vicksburg, MS; one aunt, Sallie Robertson of San Bernandino, CA,
and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

To my survivors,
“REMEMBER TO TRUST AND DEPEND ON GOD.”

May God Bless You Always - The Brown Family

When tomorrow starts without me
And I'm not there to see

If the sun should rise and find your eyes
All filled with tears for me

I wish so much you wouldn't cry
The way you did today

While thinking of the many things we didn't get to say
I know how much you love me as much as I love you

And each time that you think of me
I know you'll miss me too

But when tomorrow starts without me
Please try to understand

That an angel came and called my name
And took me by the hand and said my place was ready

In heaven far above
And that I'd have to leave behind

All those I dearly love
But when I walked through heaven's gates

I felt so much at home
When God looked down and smiled at me

From His great golden throne
He said, "This is Eternity, and all I've promised you"

Today for life on earth is past
But here it starts anew
I promise no tomorrow

For today will always last
And since each day's the same way

There's no longing for the past
So when tomorrow starts without me

Don't think we're far apart
For every time you think of me

I'm right here, in your heart
