Remembering the Life of
ConstanceC.Lewis
Constance Lewis was born August 13, 1955, in Los Angeles, California. She was the 7th of 10 children born to
the blessed union of Frank and Ruby Irene Tucker.
Growing up in a big family was amazing. Family dinner wasn’t optional. With all 10 of us together, it was
really more of a gathering every time we sat down at the table. We’d say grace before eating, then it was our time
to share stories. Constance loved talking about how she learned to swim at a local park and how she was the only
one in the family that learned to swim. Swimming became her passion.
Constance attended and graduated from Lincoln Elementary School, in Los Angeles, California and
Willowbrook Junior High and Centennial High Schools in Compton, California. After graduating high school
Constance attended Compton Community College and received an Associate Degree in Cosmetology.
Constance was raised within the Church of God in Christ under the leaderships of the late Elder Zack
Jones (Paradise COGIC), the late Bishop E.E. Cleveland Senior and Junior (Ephesians COGIC), and Bishop
Leon Martin (Love Peace and Happiness Christian Fellowship). As a child while attending Ephesians COGIC
Constance was a member of the Choir, Sunshine Band and Purity Class. Constance was known for her gentle
spirit and her slow classy walk that earned her the nick name “Miss Priss.”
On December 29, 1973, Constance Tucker and Roscoe Lewis were joined in Holy Matrimony. To this union
was born their only daughter, LaKeisha. Constance and LaKeisha shared an incredible bond. She made sure
LaKeisha shared her passion for swimming. They had a connection of powerful unconditional love. The birth
of her Grandson, Ashton L. Jones on June 12, 2007, filled a space in her heart that she never knew was empty.
Constance worked as a Cosmetologist for a few years and was later employed by L.A. County Department of
Children and Family Services as a Clerical Supervisor. She was employed by L.A. County for forty-one years and
retired on September 1, 2021.
On October 15, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. Constance Tucker-Lewis transitioned from her earthly life to her eternal
place of rest. Those left to cherish her memories are her husband of 49 years Roscoe J. Lewis, her only daughter
Lakeisha Lewis, and grandson Ashton Jones. Constance also leaves her sisters Carolyn Tucker-Ledford and
Diane Tucker-Phelps, brother Ervin Tucker, sister-in-laws Deborah Tucker and Joyce Tucker, brother-in-law
Leonard Phelps, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Constance was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Ruby Irene Tucker, her sisters Rita Tucker, LaTanya
Tucker, Wanda Tucker-Bells, and Yolanda Tucker, and brothers Franklin Tucker and Thomas Tucker.

Special Tributes:
Daughter
Momma, I love you for an infinite number of reasons. I feel so blessed to
have you as my mother and I am thankful for the wonderful life you
have given me. You provided me with a never-ending sense of physical
safety and emotional security whenever I was with you. I celebrate you
for being an awesome mother and grandmother. Thank you for
constantly showering me with your love. It is so hard to say goodbye for
now, but I know we will meet again. I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!
I was blessed with the best.
Love you always and forever LaKeisha
Grandson
Dear Grana, I wish that there was something I could have done to make you well again so you
could have stayed a little while longer, but I couldn’t control that. I am thankful you were my
granny. I will always remember the times we spent together and your unconditional love.
Love always and forever, Ashton
Siblings
Constance, having you as our sister was a blessing we will never take for granted.
As we loss family members one by one our bond got closer and closer over the years. Together we
laughed and shed so many tears. As we lived our daily lives sometimes we talked and sometimes we
didn’t, but that didn’t matter because we knew we were always there for each other. They say time will
heal, but neither time or reason will change the way we feel. Gone are the days we use to share, but we
are truly grateful for the memories. We already miss you more than anybody knows. We love you so
much and you will always be in our hearts.
Till we meet again, Always and forever, your sisters Diane and Carolyn and your brother Ervin.
L.A. County Department of Children and Family Services
We can’t express how grateful we are for Constance Lewis coming into our life at the Department of
Children and Family Services. Most of us have had the opportunity of being under her supervision
throughout our employment with the Department of Children and Family Services.
Constance had a hand in a lot of employee’s promotions. She was always encouraging people to promote
and better their lives. She freely shared so much wisdom and knowledge with others. She was a
supervisor that went over and beyond to help others financially, emotionally and spiritually. She would
light up any room she entered with her beautiful smile, style and personality. Constance was so admired
and loved by everyone. Constance will be greatly missed by all!!
