The Light Magazine - March-April 2025 Issue

March-April 2025 Issue is online

If we were residing in a condo, we would take the trash daily or every couple of days to the trash disposal area on our floor and toss it down the trash chute. Not a bad system, depending on how close your unit is to the trash disposal area. Of course, you never know who you might engage in the hallways, so some care needs to be taken not to look like a homeless individual while you undertake this task. Which is better is probably a toss-up.
The next category we’ll call “access” to certain services, including your storage unit, your auto- mobile, and your mail and package delivery. Hands down, having your storage in a garage cabinet, your car in the driveway or garage, and your mailin a mailbox
affixed to the house or package deliveries from in front of the entry door is a far more attractive app- roach than what would be required in a condo dev- elopment. The same can be said for the distance,
whatever it is, from the garage or porte cochere to the unit. That all depends on the distance of the unit from the closest bank of elevators. Again, a home is easier to navigate for this purpose.
The final issue to explore is how management handles deliveries from Amazon and the local dry cleaners, among other retailers. Different rules will undoubtedly apply to different developments and management teams. Some will offer a valet concierge service to hand you your delivery; others will not, but be sure to inquire about the cost of the service which is sort of a hidden cost to this style of living. In the latter cases there is no question that unit owners will spend valuable time retrieving these items and securing them
in the intended unit. Not a lot of fun.
How will my wife and I de- cide? We will discuss the above items at length, as well as the legal issues that inevitably exist, and then do whatever she wants!

The Marlins Have Been
Silent On Baseball Moves
by LARRY TURNER
It is wonderful when we can write about mean- ingful changes reported by our local teams; unfort-unately, in the case of the Miami Marlins we cannot at this time because there is nothing substantive happening to communicate to our readers.
Other than signing players to minor league contracts, there is no real baseball news. On a broader perspective, however, the team did announce that it is moving to improve its popu- larity with the community by turning loanDepot park into a year-round destination
for indoor-outdoor dining and entertainment in a newly designed West Plaza called Miami Live. The Marlins will partner with the real estate development entity, the Cordish Companies, to create this new destination for the fans and the entire surrounding area. No date has been provided for the expected completion of this exciting project.
Should roster news be released prior to pub- lication of this issue, we will add the information to this brief article as a Post Script.

The “Feed Your Creativity” art competition is part of Feeding South Florida’s “Summer Hunger Ends Here” initiative, designed to raise the awareness and funds necessary to address summer hunger for kids in South Florida. It aims to engage students, their parents, teachers and schools in a critical issue, while also rec- ognizing the creative talent in the South Florida com- munity. Summer months are some of the most dif- ficult times for South Florida families because children don’t have access to free or reduced-price school meals when school is not in session. In South Florida, more than 300,000 kids rely on free or reduced meals during the school year. Seeking to help fill the void of school meals, Feeding South Florida is a proud spon- sor of the USDA Summer Food Service Program, pro- viding meals to kids at Summer BreakSpots, pop-up pantries in low-income communities. Feeding South Florida also assists families at its Community Caring Centers, food pantries, along with other services at both of its warehouses in Pembroke Park in Broward County and Boynton Beach in Palm Beach County. LETTER FROM
the editors
Dear Readers,
We always celebrate the spring season during March and April even though this year Spring officially starts on March 20 and runs through June. We South Floridians enjoy the best weather this time of year and we have many holidays to celebrate: St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, Passover and Earth Day to name the most popular holidays. This issue has numerous articles about the holidays and one other tradition, Spring Cleaning.
A must read is The Turning Point. It is an enlightening perspective on the economy and how it affects us and our potential investing.
The article about all the progress that is being made in Tallahassee demonstrates how involved our govern- ment officials are working to make South Florida a better place to live and work.
For those of us who are thinking of a new car, there is some important information to consider in this issue.
We hope you and yours are enjoying this special time of the year. Happy Spring!
Warm Regards,
Roberta B. Turner Larry Turner
