Yesterday (0) is my first day at my new neighbourhood. My parents and I had just

unfamiliar surroundings. When we first ( 10 ) arriving , I was very excited as my new
house was more spacious and nearer to the park than my old one. My father and I went for
a walk around the neighbourhood to get know our neighbours. We ( 11 ) meet Uncle
Razlan and his wife, Aunty Aini , our next door neighbours. They have two daughters. One
of ( 12 ) they was my age and the other was 2 years older. They ( 13 ) look cheerful and
seemed friendly. After introducing ourselves as the new neighbours, the family invited us

RECYCLING
Malaysians produce an average of 30,000 tonnes of waste every day. Of this, only 5
per cent is recycled while 60 per cent is dumped into landfills. Waste management
continues to be a problem as the population grows and industries flourish.
Recycling waste material means transforming the waste into new products .Many
products made from paper, glass, plastic and metal can be recycled. Recycling is
environmentally friendly as we can reuse these waste materials instead of throwing them
away .Moreover it reduces the need to extract and process raw materials. Thus , recycling
saves energy and reduces greenhouse gas emissions. However, recycling is expensive and
recycled products may not be as newly processed materials.
On the other hand, a landfill is a site for the disposal of all types of waste materials by
burial. It is the most popular waste disposal method as it is considered the most effective.
In addition , landfills have long lifespans. However, landfills emit toxic gases like methane
into the atmosphere. Methane gas can be converted into energy which can be used to light
up homes. Many insects and rodents are attracted to landfills and this can spread harmful
diseases to the people living nearby. Landfills require skilled manpower to maintain them.

Part 4
Read the text and answer the questions 25 to 34.

A very good morning to the principal, Puan Chua Jock Cheng, teachers and fellow
students. I am Amala Raman of Form 3ASK7 .Today,I would like to give a speech entitled
‘Eating Your Way to Health’.

Did you know that, although exercise and what you eat are important factors in
determining your health, it is the latter that is more important? You could exercise every
day, but it will not be effective if you do not change your eating habits. Here are some
basic things you should remember.

First ,avoid eating food that is high in carbohydrates, sugar, salt or oil on a regular basis.
Examples are white rice, white-flour bread and deep-fried food. Increase your intake of
vegetables, fruits and wholemeal bread instead.

Next, cut down on your food portions. For instance, instead of eating a full plate of rice for
lunch, limit yourself to half a plate. This is difficult to do at first, but if you reduce the
portion sizes gradually, your body will learn to adjust. Nutritionists agree that breakfast
should be the largest meal of the day in the terms of calorie counts. So, make your lunch
smaller and eat the least at night. This has been proven to aid weight loss.

Lastly, eat snacks between meals but make sure they are of the healthy variety. Avoid junk
food like potato chips and chocolate bars. Instead, go for food like carrot sticks and fresh
fruits, which you can prepare easily and is convenient to carry with you.
It is not easy to change one’s eating habits, but if you are serious about being healthy, you
should definitely give these tips a try. Thank you.
