they can make students' lives easier. These are
the standard apps that the authors
recommend students download on their
phones; for example, translated applications
(in case of living in non-English speaking),
weather forecasts, google maps, public
transport app, etc.
25
Recommended applications:
Google Maps
Traveling to another country is a difficult task
for tourists since unfamiliar with the new
environment. Google Maps is an essential
application to help you travel smoothly. It
indicates locations in detail and tells you how
to go to your destination by providing traveling
methods by walk, public transport, and own
vehicles. The map also displays near places
surrounding the target destination. Then, This
app will work best if you turn on your GPS.
26
Recommended applications:
Air Visual
Air Visual mobile phone application is an
application that can help people track air
pollution in many countries. There are
many fuctions: weather forecasts, maps of
all countries affected by PM 2.5 air pollution,
and ranking the most and least countries
containing the dust. Moreover, the app also
shows how users are affected by PM 2.5
pollution both inside the home and outside.
27
Recommended applications:
Google Translate
Studying abroad is a challenging task for
students because of encountering an
unknown language or local language. Google
translate is a recommended application that
you should download on your mobile phone
because this application can translate many
languages around the world. It can help you
to communicate with foreigners and make
your journey easier.

maps of many routes and schedules, taking
public transportation can be incredibly
unpleasant. When you launch the Moovit

key in your destination, and the app will give
suggested routes.

Survival English suggests that beginning
students abroad can ask other people
when they misunderstand. You can ask
the speaker to say again to ensure what
you listen. Don't be shy to interrupt the
speaker by repeating the speech to make
your conversation better.
30
These are some example phrases to help
students survive being confused by
another language.
Pardon?
Sorry I didn't catch that (word)?
Could you please repeat that?
Excuse me … Could you please
clarify it again?

What do you mean? (asking for
more information)

HOW TO HANDLE
YOURSELF IN THE
NEW ENVIRONMENT
DURING-INTER COOP
CHAPTER 7
43
Leaving a familiar e
nvironment is a big
problem for international students
because they have to live in a new
environment and face new people.
Therefore, “Homesickness” is a normal
feeling that affects international
students living away from home.
44
What is “Homesickness?”
Homesickness is a depressing feeling
of missing home when students leave
their hometown, especially
international working students.
Students have to live among different
cultures, food, weather, and people,
which easily affects students to miss
their friends and family or comfort
environment.

UNDERSTAND HOMESICKNESS
It’s normal to miss familiar surroundings and
struggle to adapt to new ones. Feeling
homesick isn't a weakness or something to
be serious.
CHANGE ACTIVITY
Take part in university activities: joining a
club, freshman camps, and exercising.
CHANGE PLACE
Students can go to the library, coffee
shop, or park instead of their rooms to do
their assignments. You will relax within the
new surrounding and avoid leaving alone
in your room.
MEETING NEW FRIENDS
Meeting new society will heal students
from missing home, loneliness, and
depression.
