BACKGROUND
The Workshop on the Preparation
of the Nomination form for Kebaya
will involve Brunei, Indonesia,
Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand.
It is an initiative to mobilize the
nomination work together to
discuss and update the nomination
form and publication of the
nomination video.
OBJECTIVE

FACILITATOR
Janet first joined Muzium Negara in the late
70's. She was the Public Relations officer of
the museum and in 2005 was promoted as
the Deputy Director of Muzium Negara. On
July 1st 2010, she was transferred to the
National Textile Museum, Kuala Lumpur as
the Director.
JANET TEE SIEW MOOI On July 2014 she was appointed as the
Director of the Natural History Museum in
Putrajaya.
Janet is a member of the Museums
Association of Malaysia, the Secretary for
the Malaysia National Committee of ICOM,
Vice President of *ICOM ICOFOM-ASPAC
(2019-2022), the Committee Member for
*ICOM ASPAC (2013-July 2016), and
Honorary Secretary for the Crafts Council
of Malaysia (2008-2015).
From June 2015 – January 2017, Janet was
appointed as a Curatorial Consultant by
Think City to work on the National Museum
Complex Project in Kuala Lumpur. Together
with Think City Johor, she advised on the
overview of the design and layout of
Muzium Tenun in 2018 and the space usage
of the JARO Retail Gallery in 2019, both in
Johor Bahru. She was one of the
consultants and instrumental in setting up
the E&O Visitor Centre owned by the
Eastern & Oriental Group in Penang in 2017-
2018. She also sits on the panel of judges
for the category of Tourist Attractions:
Culture, Arts & Heritage for the Kuala
Lumpur Mayor Tourism Award 2017.
FACILITATOR
TAN CHAI CHENG Baba Cedric Tan is a sixth generation
(CEDRIC) Melakan Baba active in the promotion of
Baba Nyonya culture through Baba Nyonya
Culture Promotions troupe. He is the
Immediate Past President of the Kuala
Lumpur & Selangor Peranakan Baba
Nyonya and has helmed the position of
Youth Leader and Committee Member in
the Melaka Peranakan Association before
he moved to Kuala Lumpur.
He also acted as Culture Consultants for
important events such as the late Tun
Endon Mahmood’s Nyonya Kebaya project
and Muzium Negara’s World of Peranakan
exhibition and symposium. His passion
included spearheading the revival of the
Baba traditional wedding in Melaka and
Singapore. He has contributed many
articles to the quarterly now half yearly
magazine "The Peranakan on various
aspects of the Baba Nyonya culture". He
views and expertise have been sought in
television, documentaries and printed
media in relation to the culture as well. He
regularly gave talks and demonstration to
museum docents in both Singapore and
Malaysia, tour guides, University
undergraduates and expatriates all over
Malaysia.
FACILITATOR
Y. M. RAJA DATIN Raja Fuziah binti Raja Tun Uda DSIS obtained her
PADUKA FUZIAH RAJA Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Sociology from
Bedford College, University of London in 1967. She
TUN UDA has had a long-distinguished career working
locally and abroad in the development of the
arts and crafts. After serving ten years
developing human resources at the Training
Division of the Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), she
was appointed in 1979 as the first Director
General of the Malaysian Handicraft
Development Corporation (MHDC) to revamp
the national cottage industry. From 1986 to 1989,
served the Organization of Islamic Cooperation
Research Centre for Islamic History, Art and
Culture (OIC-IRCICA) in Istanbul, Turkey.
In 1990, she established Sari Ayu Consult Sdn
Bhd, a craft consultancy to advocate and
promote the development of Malaysia’s Cultural
Heritage curating traditional craft and textile
exhibitions, evaluating and promoting standard
of excellence in craftsmanship for the UNESCO-
AHPADA Seal of Excellence Programme in
collaboration with ASEAN Handicraft Promotion &
Development Association.
Appointed as Regional President of the World
Crafts Council Asia Pacific Region and served the
World Crafts Council International as advisor.
Serves as resource person for UNESCO 10 Year
Programme for craft development & promotion
and participated as Jury Member for UNESCO
Crafts Prize for Asia & Pacific.
Recipient of Malaysia’s National Arts Award in
2009.
Recipient of World Craft Council International Life
Time Achievement Award in 2012 in conjunction
of 50th Anniversary of WCC.
Author of BATIK MALAYSIA: Design & Innovation
1960’s-1990’s (2012), Co Author of BATIK SARONG:
Heritage of Today for Tomorrow (2017) and
contributed several articles published in local
and international journals and magazines.
