Mehfil asked the globe-trotting Joshi, who’s an expert in Indian-inspired
makeup looks, to share her top tips, favourite techniques and preferred prod-
ucts when it comes to bridal makeup for Indian brides. “The top trend in
bridal beauty at the moment is getting more creative with your makeup when
it comes to your reception and sangeet,” says Joshi. “This is where you can
become more experimental with colours. As for the actual wedding day, many
brides want to keep their makeup more classic and traditional. The makeup
needs to be timeless, as trends come and go but pictures last forever!”

Dr. Sachit Shah

Dr. Sachit Shah admits he was quite a science
geek growing up in the U.K. But aside from learning
about all things technical, what he enjoyed most was
interacting with people. Medicine seemed a natural
fit to challenge his intellect and keep him connected
with people and he became the first in his family to
attend college and earn a medical degree in London,
England, in 1985.

After more education and work experience in the
U.K. and the United States, he immigrated to Canada,
bringing his new bride, Priti, to Port Hardy, B.C., in
1991 for what was to be a three month stay.

“We ended up staying for five years,” says Shah,
who enjoyed a thriving, rural family practice there.
“But bush medicine is really a young man’s sport,”
says the the 47-year-old doctor laughingly, explaining
his move to the Lower Mainland in 1996, where he
opened a family practice.

It was there that Shah first introduced his patients
to some of the benefits of Botox and decided to explore
other areas of cosmetic treatments.

“Helping people feel better both physically and
emotionally is very important to me,” says Shah. “And
we know when people look better to themselves, they feel
better about themselves.”

To that end he opened the Beautiful Canadian Laser
& Skin Care Clinic in 2000, one of the first clinics avail-
able at the time to patients in the Fraser Valley.

Today, he and his staff of ten offer a wide variety of
lasers, fillers, Botox and procedures, such as hair and
fat removal. And his office is furnished with the latest
technology and utilizes the latest techniques to make
cosmetic treatments as effective as possible.

“I like to establish relationships first … I like to
find out what motivates my patients to come to me,”
he says, adding that he won’t do a treatment if he feels
it isn’t for the right reasons.

Recently, CBC television ran a piece about his work
lasering tattoos off young gang members trying to
escape that lifestyle – for free.

“These kids are trying to break free, and I’m happy
to do what I can to help them make a fresh start,” says
Shah.

For all his patients, Shah takes the time to under-
stand their needs to recommend the best and safest
procedures with their health as the first priority.

“I’ve learned a lot over the years in terms of medi-
cal procedures and treatments,” says Shah. “But the
most valuable lesson I’ve learned is to provide the best,
honest care I can. That’s ultimately what patients want
and need – a doctor they feel they can trust.”
