01 BALANCE
Balance is the way the elements
are arranged to create a feeling
of stability in work.
Types of Balance
A. Symmetrical Balance
Symmetrical Balance is when the
parts of an image are organized
so that one side mirrors the
other.
B. Asymmetrical Balance
Asymetrical Balance is when one
side of a composition does not
reflect the design of the other.
C. Radial Balance
Radial Balance is when the
elements of design come “out”
from a central point.
D. Crystallographic Balance
Crystallographic Balance is
achieved by giving equal weight
to a large number of elements.
02 emphasis
Emphasis is the focal point of an
image, or when one area or
thing stands out the most. That
part of the design catches the
viewer's attention. The area
could be different in size, color,
texture, shape, etc.
3
03 movement
Movement is the motion created
in a work of art. Often uses the
principle of rhythm to achieve
this. Movement helps in guiding
the user's eye to a
predetermined path in a
composition.
04 contrast
Contrast is a large difference
between two things to create
interest and tension. For
example, light and dark colors,
smooth and rough textures,
large and small shapes.
Contrast can be used to create
variety, visual interest, and
drama in an artwork.
4
05 rhythm
Rhythm is usually achieve
through repetition of lines,
shapes, colors, and more.
Rhythm can unite, direct,
highlight and set the dynamics.
It organizes, structures and set
the elements into motion.
Rhythm creates a visual tempo
in artwork.
06 pattern
and
repetition
Pattern and Repetition is simply
the repetition of a design.
Pattern is a combination of
elements that are repeated.
Repetition is the simplest
element you can use. It works
with pattern to make the work
of art seem active.
5
07 UNITY
Unity is the principle of design
that unifies all other principles
within a piece of work, allowing
each individual element to
coexist with one another. It is
also the use of differences and
change to increase the visual
interest of the work.
08 VARIETY
Variety is when all the elements
and principles work together to
create a pleasing image. It is
also the feeling of harmony
between all parts of the work of
art, which creates a sense of
completeness.
09 PROPORTION
Proportion is the comparative
relationship of one part to
another concerning size,
quantity, or degree; scale.
Good proportion adds harmony,
symmetry, or balance among
the parts of a design.

I am your dreamcatcher, Your shelter
in the night. I am your dreamcatcher,
protector from the fright. I am your
dreamcatcher, as if our minds would be
entwined, I catch yours and you catch
mine." - Christopher Weule
A dreamcatcher and nature. What
seems to be the connection between the
two? A dreamcatcher filters our
dreams, it blocks the bad ones from
entering our sleep. It protects our
unconscious minds from a nightmare.
But, how is it interrelated to nature?
Simple. Nature provides our daily
needs to survive, and protects us from
any natural disasters. The two may be
different from each other at first
glance, but try to look deeper. One of
their purposes is only the same, to
protect us from any harm that may fall.

I called it "when it blooms" because
some flowers don't show off their
beauty instantly because it takes time
and effort to bloom and grow
exquisitely. Furthermore, when a
flower blooms, the beauty of the flower
is noticeable and can catch anyone's
attention; however, some people will
automatically pick it and keep it along
with them, while others will simply look
at its beauty without picking it, and in
this way we can see the difference of
love. When we love someone, even if we
know he or she loves someone else, we
will not interfere with them and will
simply accept them being happy and
growing with another person, despite
any pain we may feel, because that is
love. Furthermore, picking it up and
bringing it with them shows that you
are selfish; you only want to take it
because of its beauty; you don't want it
to grow and allow other people to see
that masterpiece.

I chose this design in Mandala because
the design of the flower reminds me of
how nonsensical or how funky Alice in
Wonderland. I also chose this flower
because Red Queen loves and enjoys
flowers, specifically roses.
I decided to colour this flower using the
analogous colour scheme: Red because
the colour red would always remind me
of the Red Queen. The analogous colour
scheme of red can also be interpreted as
anger which is so fitting since the Red
Queen is often portrayed as someone
who is always angry.

Radiance of Crown art represents the
Queen of heart's crown in the story of
Alice in Wonderland. Having the
shades of color red and orange, it also
signifies the color of the shape heart
which is the Queen's head, and also
the Queen's theme/color throughout
the story.
The colors also represent heat and the
likeness of the Queen having all her
things in red. On other hand, the
crown was made with flowers inspired
by the Queen's love for her plants and
flowers especially since she likes it all
red. I also put radiance in the title
because the warm colors also deliver a
heat impression.

My digital artwork uses a triad of the
three primary colors as it also
symbolizes what I think are the three
meanings that flowers give: Love,
Prosperity, and Grief.
The color red is for love. A resource
that people only give to the ones they
are dear with. Like the color red, love
easily catches the eyes of many and like
blood, love is what makes the world go
round, according to some.
Yellow, on the other hand, is for
prosperity. A status that many want to
acquire. Like the color yellow, money is
shiny, and prosperity is not easy to
attain like pure gold.
Lastly, the color blue is for grief. An
emotion we have all gone through. Like
the color blue, grief presents the
coldness of one's self, and like the azure
skies, sadness is ever present in our
lives.

What happens when you come face to
face with a giant underwater creature?
Would you be overwhelmed by
amazement? Fear? Or maybe a mix of
both emotions?
Regardless of your answer, it depends
on the outlook and perspective of the
people. Either they choose to focus on
the beauty and magnificence of the
creature. Or focus on the fear factor
and the possible danger it possesses.
This artwork wants to express that a
person's outlook and feelings on a
situation vary from another person's.
Some might feel enchanted, amazed,
and happy even when faced with such a
situation, while most would probably be
anxious, afraid, and overwhelmed. It
also shows the duality of nature,
because nature can be defined as both
beautiful and deadly.

The color scheme used in this
digital painting is the Triadic
color scheme, with yellow, blue
and red being the primary
colors and are equally spaced
from one another forming a
triangle.
In this digital painting Alice is
hit with a magical breeze beside
an old, yellow, and damaged
tree. With the atmosphere red
and ominous, the clouds and the
sun exposed in the clear sky,
and Cheshire cat inside the tree
plotting his next laugh.

The Mad Hatter, an icon who is loved
by many. Known for his extravagant
make up, enormous hat, and carrot-red
hair. He is very much different from
his character in the original book who
is very rude and would occasionally
provoke Alice.
In the original book, he is only
referred to as the Hatter. Because
during the author's time, the phrase,
"mad as a hatter" is popular, hence the
name "The Mad Hatter."
He became Alice's guide and protector
throughout her journey in
Wonderland. He was punished by Time
when the Queen of Hearts found them
guilty of trying to murder time. The
punishment was a never-ending tea
party, together with March Hare.

When heard of the story of Alice, we're
all reminded of its wonder and her
adventures. And amongst all bunnies
and cookies, nothing would compare to
the impact the Queen of Hearts had.
The artwork shows that her symbol, her
rule, is what makes Wonderland. The
color red, her sign of identity, stands as
the hearts border - a small show of her
influence. The yellows can be seen as
Alices'. As the blonde is the one who
dragged us down into the rabbit hole
with her, slithering around the world
that wasn't hers. The mixture of the
colors of blood and peace is what gives
her Royal Majesty power. It shows that
amongst all things - it is the Queen who
says the last call.

Narcisseae , also known as Daffodils,
are flowers that represent a beautiful
man who was transformed into a flower
and grows over water, gazing at his
own reflection. I prefer to call this
artwork daffodils since it looks like one
but with different colors. Since it is one
of my favorite flowers and it is quite
visually stunning, I picked this design.
Someday, I really want to receive or see
one of these in real life.
It genuinely starstrucks me and gives
me a chill every time I look at pictures
of daffodils internet. Since I believe
they would suit the image I've chosen, I
used the split complementary color
schemes (red, blue green, and yellow
green) and the triad (orange, green,
and violet) for this artwork.

The waves are immense, and so are its loops; simultaneously, the entity of the
artwork is monstrously colorful that it looks chaotic. However, at the end of
each wave, there is a blooming sun that has a chasm between colors.
It depicts the eventuality of every hurdle in our life. Obstacles are embroiled in
every human's life. The word "obstacle" itself may be, on the contrary,
however, they are integral in obtaining and impelling us to flourish and
improve as we become the best version of ourselves. But we also shouldn't
exploit ourselves into thinking that we deserve the hurt and damage that these
obstacles had given us. In every hardship that we experience, there would be a
bloom afterward, signaling that we overcame it and came out just fine.

Funny Tricks
of Time
By Kyle Martin Gonzaludo
I took this photo at a medium shot, eye-level perspective, with vertical or
portrait formatting, while observing the rule of thirds. The photograph shows
radial balance because the picture contains a central point, and the clock's
design radiates like the sun, creating an outward symmetrical pattern.
Though the numbers are not of the same value, they make a unified whole
with their circular arrangement.
The photograph showcases a clock adorned with an intricate design, painted
in rusty gold, making it seemingly vintage and antique. Like all clocks, we can
see this clock hanging above our wall. Looking from the clock's perspective, it
oversees a large chunk of the house. Thinking about this made me realize that
time does look at us just as how it sees us from the wall.
It is always there, constantly ticking, observing us as we go through the ups
and downs of life. It continues to tick and tock, even after our last breath.
However, we must not take this in a bad light but rather take this as a
reminder to cherish every second in life. We must take to heart to live life to
the fullest and treasure every moment before it becomes a memory.

Red Flore
By John Benedict Villanueva
I named my photograph Red Flore which means
red bloom in English because aside from being
red, it also shows or signifies passion for our work
and love for our family, friends, and special
someone. While I use the plant as also a symbol of
love, happiness, and fun which also symbolizes my
personality. I take this photograph emphasizing
only the red plant to show that in every of our
darkest times, our love and passion will always
bring us to the light. I also take this picture it's
because I see my own self being symbolized by it.

I took this photo last
Friday, September
23, 2022, at school. I
was helping with the

preparation when I
saw the view in front
of me and I just
caught myself
capturing the view.
For me, the trees
unite to give a
pleasing view to the
students, faculties,
and staff of
Saint Joseph School - La Salle. It offers the ambiance of
our nature as it unites with its background, which
involves the grass, umbrella, building, and of course the
skies. It also provides the sense of a stress-free place
despite of the struggles that each member of the SJSLS
Community had to face every day.

A lot of moments in
life seem just to pass
by as we live
through our daily
lives, and we don’t
really have the time
to see the full picture
of things. We often
forget how other
people also have
intricate and
complex lives. Our
world is perfect at
being imperfect,
much like how
asymmetrical balance makes something visually unequal
feel stable.
The photo shows a tall tree that I usually pass by on my
way to our home. Often unnoticed but provides shade to
the people around it. Just like asymmetrical balance, we
only know half or even less of what it is or where it came
from, but it still feels complete.

Tranquil Current
By Ariana May Palmes
The usual flow of water
from the tap is smooth,
sheen, and would
almost look solid. I'd
like my way of life or
maybe at least my state
of mind to be like that:
pleasant, mellow, and
at ease. However, my
current disposition is
somehow like how the
water flows in the
photo: sputtered and
quite messy, almost
unpleasant.
Just yesterday, a
plumber went to our
house to fix our tap so
that the flow of the
water will become
smooth again. The plumber said that he needs to assess what the
problem is with our tap in order to fix it. And so, I thought about
my state again. How about me? How am I going to "fix" my state?
Who will fix it? Or is there even a need to fix it?
Maybe this is just how life is; not smooth as there will always be
obstacles and hurdles. As cliche as it may sound, I just need to go
with the flow of life. I need to understand and accept why these
things are occurring in my life. From then, I will know what to
do.

PPoott,, NNoott AA PPoott??
By Zion Zedrick Delfin
A man got home from his work at a very late hour. He was exhausted and very
hungry. Because he was so tired and hungry, he wondered whether he would eat first
or go straight to bed. But with fatigue overpowering him, he decided to sleep without
eating. Later that night, while the man was sleeping, his stomach grumbled and
shook due to immense hunger. His body couldn't take it anymore. The hunger was
unbearable, and it came to a point where his soul left his body in search of food. The
soul of the man flew to the kitchen, went inside an open pot, and ate the remnants
and scraps of food. While feasting, the soul shook the pot violently, and the lid fell
and covered the pot, thus trapping the soul inside. The morning after, the man
didn't wake up. The soul was trapped inside the cooking pot with no hope of
returning to its body.
That is one of the stories my mother told me when I was a kid. Isn't it terrifying? A
pot, of all things, proved to strike fear in me when I was but a little child. The idea
of my soul being trapped inside one and me not waking up traumatized me in the
past. It taught me a valuable lesson, and that is to always eat my meals before
sleeping.
But a pot usually isn't a symbol of fear. If you think of a pot in a literal sense, it's
just an instrument used in cooking. A container in which various ingredients are
mixed and made into a cuisine. Truthfully speaking, this photograph, in reality, has
no valid meaning. A pot is a pot and nothing more. But what amazes me is that
people can tell stories through the use of such simple objects and portray fantasy
that envelopes the hearts and minds of people, like in the story above. This
demonstrates the beauty and ingenuity of fantasy concepts and
the human imagination. If put into perspective, a pot can become many
things.
This photo uses the
concept of photography
and photo-taking essentials: the rule
of thirds; close-up shot; eye-level angle;
and the use of flash.
