OUR PETS ARE OUR FAMILY

Many people have pets around their homes. Some have cats, dogs,

miniature pigs, birds, horses, donkeys, fish, turtles, hamsters, and
guinea pigs. People from other parts of the world go for more exotic
selections like cheetah, kangaroo, tiger, horse, or monkey. We all
have one thing in common when having animals around us; animals
make us feel good. Animals give us unconditional love. They help us
lower our stress, make us happy, and keep us company. For example, we’ve had a busy long day at work. Once

we arrived home, our furry family members were the first to greet us at the door, excited to see us, then all of a
sudden, the stress melted away. Research shows that interacting with animals decreases cortisol levels, the
stress-related hormone, lowers blood pressure, reduces loneliness, boosts a person’s mood, and improves social
support. (National Institutes of Health). In today’s technology, everything is possible. However, pets do get lonely
when they are in the house while we are away. In that case, we can use Alexa to play music for our pets while we
are out doing errands or visiting friends and families. There are many music collections online geared toward
pets. The most notable access online is YouTube and Amazon music. Taking care of animals is a big job, but it

becomes worth the effort when our pets become members of our family.

THANKSGIVING GATHERING

For centuries, the act of thanksgiving has existed in many

cultures. In 1621, the Pilgrims and Wampanoag Native
Americans shared a fall harvest feast (History, 2021). By
1863, President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed
Thanksgiving a holiday on the 4th Thursday of November.
What does Thanksgiving truly mean? In our time,
Thanksgiving is viewed as a family reunion, eating a
turkey, mashed potato and gravy, pumpkin pie, cranberry
sauce, and seasoned stuffing; watching sports, four-day

weekend, watching floats on tv, school break, or receiving
holiday pay. In the Bible, Thanksgiving is about adoration, sacrifice, and offerings. In other words, it was a time of
worship to God. Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay your vows unto the most High –Psalms 50: 14
KJV. Thanksgiving is praising God. (All About History, 2021). Thanksgiving is about gathering in unity, being
humble, and being grateful for what we have. We share it with the people we know and extend our blessing to the

less fortunate. Each family celebrates Thanksgiving according to the reflection of their culture. Celebrate
thanksgiving wholeheartedly. In addition, Thanksgiving is the perfect time to express your gratitude to the people
around you who have been there for you. Come to the table in humility, as equal, and pure-hearted. Each day
counts. Create a memorable thanksgiving this year that will last a lifetime.

FUN HOBBIES: JIGSAW PUZZLES

Puzzles are fun to work on alone or with the company. Puzzles allow an individual to explore words, shapes,
links, numbers, and clues. But most of all, puzzles will enable an individual to examine mentally, such as
attention to details, sharpen the mind, improve concentration, recalling the meaning of the word, or the time
spent on completing it. One type of puzzle that brings everyone together is the jigsaw puzzle. Jigsaw puzzles
can start from 12 pieces up to 5,000 pieces. Jigsaw puzzles improve memory and problem-solving skills, offer

fun social collaboration, stress relievers, a great way to keep busy, and improves concentration. In addition,
puzzles are great mental activity for the brain (Harvard Health Publishing, 2020). Seniors with Alzheimer's
disease and dementia can be comforted by doing simple jigsaw
puzzles because they are relaxing, fun, and improves memory.
People with Alzheimer's disease and dementia can take pleasure in
jigsaw puzzles because it allows them to take their time, focus one
at a time, improve their spatial skills, and enjoy social interaction
with others while completing it. We all need to interact with one

another through social collaboration; jigsaw puzzles can make that
happen. Try a new hobby like jigsaw puzzles today.

MUSIC FOR THE SOUL

Music is everywhere and all around us. For thousands of years, music has existed to express our emotions, a

way to tell stories during religious gatherings, weddings, birthdays, and a welcome proclamation of a significant
person or group. Music is a God-given gift to share with others to bring happiness, console individuals, send a
message to our friends and adversaries, and bring enlightenment to a man’s soul. Music continues to exist
today. Each day we wake up, music is present. Music is heard on the radio during our commute, in the
shopping store, at work, at a concert, reminiscence a tune that we enjoyed, and played or heard during the
activity program. Music is in the air we breathe. What would the world be without music? I wonder. Music is
good for our brain. Music reduces our anxiety
and depression, lowers blood pressure,

decreases pain, improves sleep quality,
mood, memory, and mental alertness. Music
is a total brain workout, says one
otolaryngologist John Hopkins. Music can lift
your mood, bring inspiration, enhance

creativity, learning, and concentration. So,
put on a happy tune when you are feeling
down and dance with excitement.
