The Life of

Joerene Brown
(March 28, 1944-January 21, 2015)

Obituary

Joerene Williams was born March 28, 1944 to Lissie and Joe Williams in Pembroke, Georgie.

She and her family relocated to Monrovia CA. Mother Lissie Williams, Brother Earnest
Campbell, Sister Zelma Price, Great grandson Deondre Jay all preceded her in death.

Joerene attended Dareen elementary school in Savannah, GA and graduated from Monrovia

Adult School. She also attended Citrus College, in Glendora, CA. At the tender age of 15,
Joerene would marry a childhood friend, who would turn out to be the love of her life,
Nathaniel Brown on October 10, 1959. Who would have known that they would spend the
next 55 years of their life together? After being married for two and half years, she would give
birth to her one and only baby girl Michelle Evette Brown, who was born on January 4, 1962.

In the late 1960’s Joerene started attending Lily of The Valley Apostolic Temple under

the Leadership of Bishop Fabor Morgan where was saved and filled with the Holy Ghost.
After becoming a member, Joerene came up through the ranks in the church and worked
tirelessly to fulfill many roles at Lily of The Valley. In her prime, she wore many, many hats.
Just to name a few; she was an usher, a choir member, president of the choir, president of the
missionary department, church secretary, a Sunday School Teacher as well as the Sunday School
Superintendent. After the passing of her pastor, Bishop Morgan, she became the First Lady of
Lily of The Valley, as her husband was placed in the position of Pastor of the Church. She was
always by her husband’s side offering full and total support in all of his efforts. Evan. Brown was
an effective help meet, even up until the very end. Did I mention that she was also a graduate of
the Sunday School E.T.A. Program of the Pentecostal Churches of the Apostolic Faith? She had
even held the position of the Home Mission President, Assistant Secretary and the Secretary of
the California & Western State Council for many years, as well as the Vice President of Minister
Wives and Deacon Wives retreat. At her passing she held the positions of Co-Pastor and
Administrator of Lily of The Valley Apostolic Temple.

Joerene was blessed to have a wide range of talents, which would open many doors for her in

the work world. One of her first jobs was when she began working for Jane Sprate as a Domestic
Engineer. While working for Mrs. Sprat, she also went back to school and attended night classes
at Monrovia Adult School in order to get her GED. After she finished obtaining a portion of
her education, she would soon begin working at Security Pacific Bank. Her last full-time job as
an employee, was working as a Claim Adjuster for an Insurance Agency in Southern California.
She was not only a hard worker, but was also passionate about fashion, loved elegant garments
and had her own style and “flavor of flare”. Joerene had also committed a large portion of her
life to being a foster parent to many children. Although she was a foster parent by title, she did
more than expected and did not live by the title in her efforts, and strived to play such a positive
role in affecting all of the lives of the children that she would care for, that many of them still
consider her to be the only Grandmother that they’d ever known. That was just the kind of
women she was.

Obituary

Joerene was known to be a woman of passion, love and happiness and she was sure to put

fervent energy into all of her selected hobbies, some of which were sewing, arts and crafts,
playing piano, singing, fishing and computer gaming. She was a seasoned seamstress and a
perfectionist with her trade. She was well known as “the one made those beautiful lap hankies
with lots of love”, leaving no strings behind.

Evangelist Brown is also well known as “The Mother to Many Others” although she gave

birth to only one Child. She loved crafts, children, helping people, and was a pillar of the
community. She constantly made herself available to facilitate or participate in the Home
Going Services for a countless number of people, most of which who were residence of the
San Gabriel Valley. Some people knew her as “the lady from the voting pools”. She would
even volunteer her time to work at food banks for a food ministry that was meant to feed the
needy. Evangelist Brown was a humanitarian in her own right. She was a giver, and would give
you the shirt off of her back if you needed it, and if she didn’t have one on to give to you, she
would go find one for you have. Evangelist Brown was well known “around the world” it did
not matter what city or state she was in someone knew her. To her, the word stranger, did not
exist.

During her lifetime, she would fight many illnesses, often-time death was waiting right

around the corner for her, but the Lord saw fit for her to have been able to live out the Lord’s
full promise of 3 score and ten, and see 70 years on this earth. Evangelist Brown was truly
blessed to see many significant milestones in her lifetime. She was able to travel to country,
from coast to coast many times, be honored and celebrated in a wide variety of ways, see 4
of her generations all the way up to her great-grandchildren, celebrate her 50th Wedding
Anniversary with her sweetheart in style, and celebrate her 70th birthday with her husband,
daughter, grand and great grandchildren. On the Wednesday night of January 21, 2015, the
Lord called Evangelist Joerene Brown home to glory, and this time, she was ready to go home.

Loving memories will continue to linger and flood the hearts of her husband, District/

Elder Nathaniel Brown, her Daughter Michelle Evette Brown, her 5 grandchildren: Qiana
Jones, William Brandon Jones (Leteisha), Whitney Jones, Bradford Darius Costley, and Tyler
Aaron Wooldridge. 8 great grand: Angela, Marcell, Davonte, Anaiya, Elise, Christian, Bradford
Jr., Justin. Godchildren: Frankey Watson, Stacey Marshall-Hall, Maurice McCoy, Arlynda
Haggins, Sheila Ackles, Crystal Woods, and their children. Brothers: Dr. Marion Williams
(Rosemary), Bishop Donnie Williams (Valerie), and a host of other god-children, family and
friends.

“Well done, thou good and faithful servant, you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler
over many things: enter thou into the joy of the lord” – Matthew 25:21

FLetter to My Loved Ones
rom Your Angel in Heaven

To my dearest family, some things I would like to say,
But first of all, to let you know that I arrived okay.

I’m writing this from Heaven where I dwell with God above,
here there’s no more tears or sadness there is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I’m out of sight,
Remember that I’m with you every morning, noon, and night.
That day that I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, I welcome you.
It’s good to have you back again you were missed while you were gone,

As for your dearest family they’ll be here later on.
I need you here so badly as part of my big plan,
There’s so much that we have to do to help our mortal man.
Then God gave me a list of things he wished for me to do,
And foremost on that list of mine is to watch and care for you.
And I will be beside you every day and week and year,
And when you’re sad, I’m standing there to wipe away the tears.
And when you lie in bed at night the days chore put to flight,
God and I are closest to you in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth and all those loving years,
Because you’re only human they’re bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry it does relieve the pain,
Remember, there would be no flowers unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you of all that God has planned,
But if I were to tell you, you would not understand.
And to my many friends trust, God knows what it best,
I’m still not very far away from you I’m just beyond the crest.
And now I am contented that my life, it was worthwhile,
Knowing as I passed along the way I made someone smile.
When you’re walking down the street and you’ve got me on your mind,
I’m walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when you feel that gentle breeze or the wind upon your face,
That’s me giving you a great big hug or just a soft embrace.
And when it’s time for you to go from that body to be free,
Remember, you’re not going, you are coming here to me.
And I will always love you from that land way up above.

I’ll be in touch again soon,
P.S. GOD SENDS HIS LOVE!

A Poem For Our Beloved

"My eyes are filled with tears, yet, my heart has no
conflicted fears, for I know she lived many years,
well beyond most of all her peers. She had a heart

of gold, for her story will never go untold. The
pain was well beyond are control, so her memory
was something I’ll always uphold. You just don’t
get that kind of love anymore. A virtuous woman
of God and was adored. I will keep your smile in
my mind, the love you gave in my heart, and the
powerful words to ignite a change within myself
to show another person. Thank you my heavenly
father for a once in a lifetime experience with Ms.

Joerene Brown" - by Lynn Stewart
