樂曲介紹 我很喜歡和學生談天，有時創作前會問學生的意見，從學生身上找靈感。例如對日常生活裡的甚麼事情感興趣， 問他們有甚麼題材想聽或想唱。這一次他們說不如來一首數字歌。說到數字歌，我即時想起林子祥有一首由潘源 良填詞的經典《數字人生》，那麼我們用甚麼數字好䏆？最初想到電話號碼，例如電台的觀䱾熱線、緊急求救電 話或是各式公共礚詢號碼，後來想到了圓周率，於是寫成了《π3.14》(2013)。鋼琴引子，亦是貫穿整首樂曲 的旋律，是我將圓周率 3.14 及小數點後首二十五個位的數꧊當成唱名 (Solfege) 得來，例如 1=Do, 2=Re, 3=Mi 如此類推。合唱團大部份時間是同步演唱相同的歌詞 (數字)，比較少對位段落，這因為我想所有聲部的人 都能唱到足本的數字。作品的首演由香港兒童合唱團於文化中心音樂聽演出，後來有學生對我說：有次在學校上 課時老師挑戰他們，問大家最多能背圓周率多少個位，他舉手說能背小數點後一百八十七個，全班愕然！這令我 想到，歌曲題材不妨益智，讓小朋友唱誦時能潛移默化學到知識；這些知識起初看來也許好像很無謂，但有一 天，說不定會在他們的生命中起了一點點作用。 譚天樂（作曲） 畢業於倫敦皇家音樂學院之歌劇課程及香港演藝學院，身兼歌唱家、指揮及作曲家。譚氏曾在世界各地不少舞台 製作中擔任要角，演出超過三十個歌劇角色 。2015年，譚氏在「譜Teen同唱 - 萬人音樂會」中擔任合唱總 監，由近萬位青年參與合唱貝多芬《第九交響曲》之《歡樂頌》打破健力士世界紀錄。2016年被委任為「香港 國際無伴奏合唱節」的藝術總監。譚氏還積極參與本地流行音樂的編曲、作曲、現場演奏及和音工作，包括為香 港管弦樂團及香港小交響樂團擔任管弦樂編曲。譚氏獲英國皇家音樂學院頒發 ARAM 榮銜，以表揚他在音樂領 域上的貢獻。2018年獲香港音樂及舞蹈聯會頒發「傑出音樂家大獎」。2023年更被香港理工大學委任為駐校 藝術家(2023-24)。譚天樂現任香港歌劇院合唱團總監、艾莉亞音樂學院院長、香港演藝學院及香港理工大學的 合唱團指揮，亦為香港電台第四台《歌劇世界》節目主持。 在創作方面，中大合唱團及香港兒童合唱團先後出版《譚天樂作品集》及《譚天樂童聲合唱作品集》，收錄了大 部份譚氏的合唱作品。2021年，香港兒童合唱團舉辦了一連兩場的「譚天樂合唱作品專場」，廣受好評。 *樂曲介紹可在音樂會簡介及場刊上自由轉載。 *此曲需以ꖋ語演唱。本樂譜之ꖋ語注音採用香港語言學會ꖋ語拼音方案（ꖋ拼），相關指引請參考網頁 https://www.lshk.org/jyutping
Programme Note I love chatting with my students, and would sometimes ask them for suggestions before composing for inspiration.. Such as, what interests them in daily life, what kinds of topics they would like to listen or sing to. This time they suggested a song about numbers. This immediately reminded me of George Lam's A Life of Numbers, with lyrics by Calvin Poon Yuen-Leung. So what numbers should we use? At first I thought of using phone numbers, like the audience hotline of radio stations, emergency numbers and all kinds of public enquiry numbers. Then Pi (π, the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter) came to mind. The piano intro of The Pi Song (2013), also the main theme of the whole piece, is the result of treating the first 25 digits of Pi (3.1415926….) as solfege, e.g. 1=Do, 2=Re, 3=Mi, etc. As it was my intention to have all singers memorize every digit of Pi written, this piece was composed in a rather homophonic manner with relatively fewer counterpoints. After the piece was being premiered by the Hong Kong Children's Choir at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall, a student told me an interesting story: Her maths teacher at school wanted to give a challenge to the class by asking how many Pi digits they can recite. She raised her hand saying she can recite 187 digits after the decimal point and shocked the whole class. I enjoy writing interesting and educational topics for children, and such knowledge they learned subtly would stay with them for the rest of their lives. Little things in life like Pi may seem useless, but they might be in good use one day. Alex Tam (composer) Graduated from the Royal Academy of Music in London and The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA), Alex Tam is an opera singer, conductor and composer, having performed leading roles in stage productions worldwide, including over 30 operatic roles. Alex was the Chorus Master of the Guinness World Record-breaking event, ODE TO JOY - Concert of Ten Thousand in 2015, and was appointed Artistic Director of the Hong Kong International A Cappella Festival in 2016. Alex is also active in the pop music field, composing and arranging for pop artists, including orchestral arrangements for The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and Hong Kong Sinfonietta. In recognition of his significant contributions to the music profession, Alex received the ARAM award from the Royal Academy of Music, and the Outstanding Musician Award from the Hong Kong Music and Dance Association in 2017 and 2018 respectively. In 2023, Alex was appointed Artist in Residence (2023-24) of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Alex is currently Chorus Director of Opera Hong Kong, founder of Aria Academy of Music, as well as choir conductor of PolyU and HKAPA. Alex is also a radio presenter on RTHK Radio 4. As a composer, Alex's compositions have been featured in the Alex Tam Collection published by CU Chorus as well as the Alex Tam Choral Collections for Treble Voices published by The Hong Kong Children's Choir.
