Tribes In Rajasthan
Rajasthan is well known for its culture, architecture and history.
When you travel to our resort in Jodhpur, you will find that
there are many tribes of Rajasthan that influence the cultural
dynamic of this state.
The Bhils and Minas have dominated the majority of the areas
near our resort in Jodhpur. Each tribe has their costumes,
jewellery and religious practices. Predominantly, the tribes of
Rajasthan dress up extremely colourfully and dance around
with poems and songs.
The majority of the tribes of Rajasthan are settled in the
foothills of Vindhya and Aravalli mountain ranges which is a
few kilometres from our resort in Jodhpur.
The tribes of Rajasthan are culturally exquisite from each other,
initially been in recent years, and they enrich the experience
one has when they travel to our resort in Jodhpur.
There are many tales for the origin of Tribes in Rajasthan. It is
said that Shabari, a well-known figure of Ramayana in Hindu
mythology, who offered Lord Rama berries before bitting into
testing its sweetness, is said to have been from the Bhil tribe.
Although Lord Hanuman was furious about Shabri's actions,
Lord Rama was stunned by the devotion and the care.
There are instances of Bhil tribes in the Mahabharata as well.
The Bhil tribes were said to have carried on cultivation and in
recent years also involved in business and commercial
activities.
The majority of tribes in Rajasthan follow Hinduism adherently.
In the recent influence of modern times, many tribes now follow
Buddhism, Islam, Christianity as well as Parsi religion and
Sikhism.
The costume worn by the tribal people is based on influences
like climate, economy, profession, and others. Although dances,
music fairs and festivals are a huge part of their tradition and
culture of these tribes. You can often see a group of women and
men engaging in theatre and dance near our resort in Jodhpur.
Some of the tribes of Rajasthan are Bhils, Minas, Damor,
Dhanka, Garasia, Kathodi, Kokna, Patelia and Seharia. There
are many more seminomadic and nomadic tribes that you can
see around our resort in Jodhpur.
Although there are many Rajasthani tribes, Bhils are the largest
tribe. They are situated in the Banswara region which is near
our resort in Jodhpur. There were originally food gatherers,
with time they have taken up agriculture and other
employments. Bhil tribe is said to have brought in the Ghoomar
dance which is the most iconic dance form of Rajasthan.
The Minas tribe is said to have descended from the Matsya
Avatar or the fish incarnation of Lord Vishnu. There are
instances of this in the Matsya Purana.
