The news came in the wake of the COVID-19

increasingly engaged in honey consumption as an
alternative given its natural sweetness compared to

many farmers have shifted their core business from
boiler eggs to eggs from other birds such as Kadaknath,
country chicken (Natty Koli), quails, duck, etc.
Going by the recent trends, duck farming is one trade
that has caught the fancy of the Indian poultry farmers.
Currently, duck farming constitutes 10 per cent of the
total poultry farming in India and contributes about 7-8
per cent of the total egg produced in the country. There
are multiple reasons for this shift, for one ducks lay more
eggs in a year (about 300 each) as compared to hens.
Moreover, duck eggs are bigger than that of a chicken
which is also preferable parameter. Ducks are also more
profitable to rear as they begin laying eggs in about the
second year, bringing down the cost of production.
Similarly, Kadaknath, also known as Kali Masi, has also
been used as a lucrative alternative to chicken. Although
they are considered to be an exotic consumable product,
Kadaknath’s eggs are gaining popularity in India because
of their high nutrient value. As compared to regular
chickens, Kadaknath hens produce 120 to 130 eggs
in a year which is almost half of what boilers produce
annually. Despite this lower output, because of their
higher nutrient value, they are considered the best
supplement to the Indian egg market.

India’s bottled

goes for a revamp
Right to clean and potable drinking is recognised as a basic human right, yet difficult to deliver. Globally,
mankind is looking at the imminent scarcity of water with the resultant socio-economic catastrophes. While
we are not dealing with a future calamity for the moment, the COVID-19 aftermath had dealt a serious blow
to the bottled water sector. Still, the demand for clean drinking water undoubtedly continues to pick up, with
brands coming up with innovative and convincing ways to reboot the bottled water industry.
India’s bottled drinking water market was valued at $24

Promotion Council of India. Going by this trend, the
market was expected to reach the $60 billion by 2023,
which now appears to be an impossible task owing
to the pandemic. As the sector’s major consumers,
including offices, airlines, hotels, restaurants and caterers,
among others, have already been negatively impacted,
the repercussions are visible. As per market reports,

to high degrees of awareness about the link between

players dominating the sector include Coca-Cola,

in India, the bottled water is mostly consumed due to the
lack of availability of clean tap water, health awareness,

with the country’s geographical size and ever growing
population, India has become a prominent market for
