other infections. Conversely, chronic or severe infections lead to nutritional disorders or
worsen the nutritional status of affected people. Therefore, it is imperative to pay attention
to diet and nutritional status during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. In this direction,
many studies are being taken up across the globe to demonstrate the efficacy of using a
dietary supplement specifically to prevent or to treat COVID-19.

As on April 21, there are 10 clinical trials
underway in the world, as per clinicaltrials.gov,
using dietary supplementssuch as Vitamin C,
Vitamin D, oral nutrition supplement (ONS) enriched
in eicosapentaenoic acid, gamma-linolenic acid and
antioxidants and isocaloric/isonutrigenous ONS, Natural

25-OH cholecalciferol, Ayurveda related to COVID 19.
These trials are going on in United Kingdom, Spain,
Saudi Arabia, Italy, Egypt, United States, China and Hong
Kong. Besides these trial studies there are other nine
totalling to 18 studies that are being taken up related to
dietary supplements along with drugs and combination
of drugs. In all 13,278 participants will be taking
part in these 18 studies. Off these 18 studies two are
completed, two are recruiting participants and two are
enrolling participants by invitation and in 11 studies the
recruitmentis yet to be started. And another one study is
active but recruiting has not taken place.
